Think with Sylla nobody has a clue what type of player he is so just automatically assume he's going to be a tough tackling sort.

Branger done well in the cup games to be fair to the lad.

Branger plays for himself, be a better player if he kept it simple or tried to take a touch or two less, he has ability and is probably one of our better players on the ball but I can see why some team mates get frustrated by him. He wasn't the problem yesterday though our attacking options of O'Grady and then Vera says it all really and having to throw a 37 year old centre half up for the last 10 pretty much sums up the state of our squad.

For some Clarke putting his arm in the air almost justifies the penalty.

Presumably Matt Smith’s equaliser against Everton should have been disallowed because Bouzanis had both arms in the air?

It gave the ref and excuse.

If you are going to challenge for the ball like that leading with your arm you are taking a chance. Clarke as an experienced pro should know this. If it had been at the other end of the ground the Donny CB goes up for high ball dangling his arm 4000 Latics fans and our players would have shouted for a pen and we may well have got it.

Branger can fuck off. Terrible. Apart from one shot on target so weak and fails to do the basics. Not good enough. Would rather start Robinson.

but he did create 2 of our best chances.I thought he had a decent game.Do you not see the defensive work he does as well.Their winger didn't get much joy from Nepo and Branger.

You think so? I respect your opinion Pete. I think you’re a man of standing on here.... but I fundamentally disagree with you. I think he’s awful.....

The your thoughts are wrong. He had a good game yesterday.Football is not just just about going forward, you have to stop the opposition and he did that very well.He is good in the air and passes the ball well.

A really disappointing way to bow out of the cup. We were second best all over the park in the first half and if it wasn’t for the heroics of Clarke and Iversen, the game would have been over by HT. Second half we came out and had a go at them.

I’ve not seen a replay of the penalty so don’t know whether it hit a hand or not. What I will ask is how can a lino give that from where he is and why did both officials give a corner before Doncaster players started protesting? It’s no coincidence that this is the same referee as at Rochdale last year in my opinion.

In terms of performances, Clarke was superb and my mom. Iversen matched everything thrown at him. Lang was our biggest threat followed by Nepo (what is he doing at left back?). Thought Hamer did ok too. Edmundson’s distribution was shocking and must surely improve if he’s to move up the leagues. Sylla and Branger both poor for the most part.

Considering the lack of quality in our squad, we battled well. However we need quality reinforcements before the window closes if we’re to have any chance at the play offs.

Yes,we may not have the quality of some other teams,we don't have the finances to buy them, therefore you have to battle, and we battled well.We were not 2nd best in terms of winning the ball and we frustrated Doncaster for much of the match and we did create some decent chances.

An excuse for what? The ref gave a corner and presumably he had the best view.

If the the ref had given a pen in real time then you’d have to take it and say that you could see why it’s given as you can only see it wasn’t a pen when you slow the video down. But he didn’t, he gave a corner. It was then overruled either by the linesman from 40 yards away or by the 4th official with a quick glance at a tv screen.

Both larger teams and friends celebrating premier league success whilst I face season after season of misery and religation.i  remember listing to the winner takes it all by ABBA, Instantly transported  to 1994 where the beginning of the end essentially started mark Hughes destroying a uo uprising ! What could have been is gone and now we are left with a Moroccan football agent who essentially prob doesn’t give a shit and is living out his dream of making a football team ! Sad sad daus! I beg u listen to every word of the song, so ironic so poignant, so hard to listen too!

I wasn't keen when the draw was made. But that game was winnable. Lots of effort, some bad luck/poor decisions. A couple of additions might have made a difference.

A win would have been worth what £180k for the win, probable £250k for last league 2 team, good chance live TV money and at decent gate receipt, something north of £800k?

Still we've saved 5 months wages for those 2 or 3 additions that would have made the difference. Nice one AL

which 2 or 3 additions are those? As you know an addition doesn't necessarily mean an improvement.Facts, finances have to be managed,we do not have a big pot of money,We have to get the best out of limited resources.Have you got any spare money you don't need. You seem to want the owner to bankrupt himself to try to achieve success.

It's a good comparison because on first viewing I was sure he'd punched it in

They played on different sides of the pitch for most of the game!

Had a feeling pre-match that we'd either get battered or lose unluckily.

It wasn't a penalty, but Clarke was silly to jump with his arm up.

I like what Jose has come out and said - it should be a challenge for the team to replicate the two cup performances in the league and not give up on this season.

That said, I think we've been dragged through the last two cup games by outstanding individual performances from Iversen, Clarke and Missilou (who hasn't come close to performing nearly as well in any of the league games I've seen..) rather than a team effort.  Hopefully the team will take a leaf out of Iversen and Clarke's book and raise their game for the run-in.

What is your opinion of the referee and linesman changing their minds?

Why do you think they did it?

Do you think that was justified?

My last word on the penalty. Lots of talk about Clarke's arm which was in the air. There was a melee of players, he was being knocked and I think Marquis pulling down on his right side makes his left arm go up. George heads the balk, shouldn't have been a penalty.

I can see why a referee could see that in real time and give a penalty, just as I don't blame Anthony Taylor for being conned by the Fulham dive in real time. What I am so angry about is that the referee didn't see it as a handball, neither did the linesman and they changed their minds on the say so of the Doncaster players. That's so much worse than any honest mistake.

Spot on.  The referee didn't see a penalty and the lineman kept his flag down as if pointing for a corner.  It was only the protests by the Donny players which somehow made the referee and his assistant decide that it was.  I assume it was given because the assistant saw an arm raised but raising your arm is not a foul.

The red card for Clarke is also a mistake.  You don't run with your arms by your side.  He had his arm out in front of him, as if to protect himself as the goalkeeper backed into him hits the elbow and threw himself to the ground in agony.  Nothing more and nothing less than a cheat.

The damage that referees do is a real problem because increasingly the evidence exists to show how inconsistent they are and how often they get it wrong.  We were doing well in the FA Cup where having VAR for some games means that the competition is not being run to a consistent standard.  Obviously VAR, or whatever it becomes, is not available for the early rounds but it should be for every match from a later round or none.

What I ask is the point?

As an aside the Poundshop Hooliganism on the way back to the industrial estate was cringe factor 10.

I've never thrown a punch at football in my life but almost felt a need to just to ease the embarrassment for all concerned.

Haha. We've got loads of them haven't we? The amount of selfies taken in front of the hall mirror in the landing that morning in their skinny jeans, Adidas everyone-has-them and entry-level CP Company coats. One of them concocted the splendid idea of cracking off a cobalt smoke bomb under the stand to spawn a large fan of mobile phones filming it. The hoolie instagram generation.

At least in our era we had class. 😉

I don’t really go to many games due to work commitments but I hang on to every word that comes out of the club and take note of the respected posters who post on the forum.

I watched the game on my tablet, as soon as the ball went in I thought it was a pen. I’ve seen it over and over again and I do still think it was a pen.

Clarke, the goalie and missile were standouts, the rest, well, let’s just say we are a million miles away from going up.

You've seen the footage of George heading it behind and you still think it's a penalty? Each to their own.

I thought yesterday was a good performance against a good league one team. Not sure how you can use that to assess our league two promotion prospects. Performances like the ones against Macc and the Vegans (good band name) are why we will struggle to go up this year.

I saw the Newport home game and unfortunately the Carlisle away game. Take the cup runs out of the equation and there isn’t much comfort to take out of it.

I agree more bodies doesn't necessarily mean better.  Perhaps Sefil, Vera and Sylla will go on to be great but at the moment I think they offer less than the Surridge and Lyden did.

How much spare cash I have isn't really relevant here - I haven't bought a football club. We have been told AL is having to put lots of money in every month- that need would have been obvious looking at any div 3/div 4 clubs books.

The point I was trying to make  was that for whatever reason we haven't strengthened in this transfer window. Committing to spend a little bit more in the last couple of weeks might have got us something a bit more on the pitch. For example rather than a 37 year old centre half as emergency striker maybe a fleet footed loanee from a bigger club.

The way the finances of the FA Cup work success magnifies the returns hugely as you progress.

A replay would be worth what?

Probable shared progress payment  £125K,  45% gate receipts say  6000 at £10 £30K,  possible live Tv £72K      - something more than the £200k he says  he puts in a month

The  win would have been worth what?

prize money £ 180k, probable TV money as lowest ranked side £247K,  probable all the progress fee £250K and £40k gates share at home or a big  payday at a big club.- something around his losses for the rest of the season.

What would a quality addition have cost him? 6 months at £5k a week?

I was trying to make the case that here there was an argument for strengthening as the upside outweighs the downside, even leaving aside the possible benefits from improved league form.

That isn't the same as saying blow everything on one flip of the dice. If he hasn't that £5k then he shouldn't have bought the club or been smarter with how he has spent the monies to date.

This bit especially applies to one of our idiots I saw walking back to the car park next to the athletic track...……...a number of policemen and women were "escorting" some of our lot away from the ground with one policeman videoing our fans and this particular "fan" took great delight in sticking his face right into the camera.....policeman angrily pushes him back in line only for said "fan" going back in for more camera shots. What a clever of getting yourself on the police database!!!
