Away fans are mostly housed on one side of the covered East Terrace (aka the School End) at one end of the ground, with seats also available in the South Stand. Facilities are basic, with portaloos in place and limited choice of food for visiting supporters.

Where to drink/eat:

 

There is a club bar at the ground, but this is for home supporters only. Alcohol is available inside the stadium.

 

The Fairways Lodge Leisure Club (George Street, Prestwich, Manchester, M25 9WS) is around half a mile from the ground, or a 10-minute walk along pleasant public footpaths through Prestwich Golf Course and over the moor. If the weather is bad the route along the road is more preferable and is about one mile. It is a hotel with gym facilities and function rooms but there is a public bar that is frequented by a few locals.

 

The nearest pub that welcomes away fans is Britain’s first urban co-operatively owned Star Inn (0.8 miles on Back Hope St, M7 2FR) in Higher Broughton, a 10 to 15-minute walk from the ground.

 

Off Bury New Road (A56) is the Friendship Inn (1.4 miles away on Scholes Lane, M25 0PD). This Joseph Holt pub offers real ale and food.

 

A couple of miles away is the CAMRA Good Beer Guide-listed Church Inn (on Church Lane M25 1AJ) off the main Bury New Road - not far from Junction 17 of the M60. The pub, which is literally outside the gates of St Mary's Church, offers up to four real ales a couple of which are normally local beers.

 

The Woodthorpe Hotel (Bury Old Road, Prestwich, Manchester, M25 0EG) is located next door to Heaton Park. Built as Sir Edward Holt’s family home, it was converted to become a pub in the 1950s but boasts an intriguing history. Refurbished towards the end of 2018, it has two bars, serves food and is a family friendly pub.
