Good afternoon Ladies & Gents,

 

The 2020/21 Football League season kicks off 1 week tomorrow, when we entertain Leyton Orient at BP.

 

For those of you who've;

 

  • Participated before but, for whatever reason, elected not to continue,
  • Have watched from afar and are curious about what OWTB Prediction League is,
  • Are new/infrequent visitors to OWTB and haven't paid it much attention before,

 

....please revisit this thread in the run up to Sept 12th, where I will explain;

 

  • How it works/What's new,
  • Who benefits,
  • Why you should consider joining in,

 

Our last fixture against Orient at Home was in December, the correct Prediction that day would've been;

 

Latics 1 Orient 1 [HT 1-1]

First Latics Scorer: Jonny Smith

Attendance: 3,121 (352 away)

So, we're now 5 days away from the first game and your first Prediction of the 20/21 season. You might be wanting to know 'How it works' from there....?

 

Points are scored accordingly;

 

Correct result (i.e. W,L or D) +2pts
Correct no. of goals for Latics +1pt;
Correct no. of goals for opposition +1pt;
Correct full-time score +2pts;
Correct half-time score +2pts;
First scorer +3pts;
*Within 100 of attendance +3pts;
*Within 10 of attendance +5pts;
*Exact attendance +20pts;

*Attendance points on hold until supporters are allowed back into stadia.

 

The maximum number of points you could therefore score on a individual game would be 31. Unsurprisingly, short of foul play @24hoursfromtulsehillthis has never happened.

 

In the season just complete, the top score/Prediction for any game was made by @alisonh1981who amassed 23 for this effort against Stevenage (a) when the correct Prediction would've been;

 

Stevenage 0 Latics 0 [HT 0-0]

First Latics Scorer: N/A

Attendance: 2,156

This season, instead of posting your prediction in a thread, the following webpage has been created via this link: Prediction League

 

It's pretty straightforward, however the following may be helpful;

  1. Make sure that you enter the correct match number to correspond with the fixture for which you want to predict.
  2. Make sure your user name appears exactly as it does on OWTB; capitals, hyphens, underscores etc need to be correct.
  3. There is a box for a PIN number. Your choice of PIN number is up to you. Please use the same PIN number for every match throughout the season.
  4. Make sure you have your FT and HT predictions the right way round. The HT fields come first.
  5. Select a First Scorer or No Scorer from the drop down list.
  6. An attendance field will be added once supporters are allowed back in.
  7. If you want to change your prediction in any way, simply go back into the system and enter a new full prediction. You latest post will always count.
  8. The system automatically reproduces the time stamp, so make sure you predict at least 10 minutes before kick off for every game for it to count.

So, now we've covered how to Predict and how points are scored, one hopes it's clear how the tables are formed? Below are the final 2019/20 League tables, which consisted of a Premier League, Championship, League One & League Two.

 

  • Yours truly & @rvlaticcorrectly predicted the outcome of 18 of the 37 games we played.
  • 12 correct HT's was the best across all 4 divisions.
  • @Benja @Dave_Og & @rvlaticimpressively predicted the exact score on 7 occasions, @Nohairdontcare got Latics' numbers of goals right 18 times, just as @laticsrblue did with opposition goals.
  • @oafc21correctly predicted Latics' 1st goalscorer 7 times.
  • The King of attendance was shared between @JohnG123& @CoreyECFCwho amassed 41 points each.

What happens to the money raised from your £5 entrance fee you might ask.

 

Firstly, in memory of Dave Stringer aka @opinions4u, a respected OWTB member/contributor and whom the Latics Forum is on OWTB is affectionately named after, 50% of the money raised will be donated to his chosen charity, The Roy Castle Lung Cancer  Charity: https://www.roycastle.org/

 

Secondly, OWTB is run/managed by volunteers and is an independent / free fans forum that (if you're reading this) I assume - like me - you value. 50% of the money raised from Prediction League will be donated to OWTB running costs;
