  1. Agree with everything said; however, creativity is needed rather than basic thuggery. https://highexistence.com/the-power-of-protest-methods-for-modern-protest/ Any volunteers for hunger strike or self-immolation?
  2. It was completely over the top. My youngest son was in tears as were some of the players.
  3. I agree, there is something odd. As you said previously it is about the easiest diagnosis to make on ultrasound. If it is a primary DVT then 3 months anticoagulation which means earliest he could play contact sport again would be April. Since he joined I don’t think we have won a league game when Doyle hasn’t played....happy to be proven wrong! Let’s hope Duffus makes a wonder return after his equally weird pleural effusion.
  4. Can you pay on the day for this one? Haven’t had time to get them in advance. Otherwise I guess it will be in with the home fans.
  5. What is the worst Oldham start to a season? I seem to remember in 2005 we went on a record losing streak under Talbot but that was midway through season. Was that eight games in a row??
  6. Ha! Yes that is very contentious GMC advice. My name is Paul Whitaker and I work in Leeds. My practice is a bit too specific to be of any use on a football message board. Although a player with a pleural effusion was interesting....
  7. Where are you working now rudemedic? I'm a respiratory consultant in a certain teaching hospital on the wrong side of the Pennines.
  8. There are a list of causes as long as your arm for pleural effusions. In him it will be most likely related to an infection. The chances of him being infectious and passing it to other players is virtually zero. Likely out of action for a few weeks depending on the cause and the size of the effusion.
  9. I had a look on the website and the charge for advertising on them is £1500+VAT per minute. To me an excessive amount for the publicity it would generate.
  10. 18 was the Devon fella. He was totally lost on the right wing. 17 was the little guy who did pull a few strings in the number 10 position.
  11. The difference in standard between 5th/6th in play offs and teams just above the relegation zone is minimal. Literally a case of who is least shit rather than any particular excellence. A couple of decent players either way can make all the difference. Get off to a half decent start. Be top 10 around Xmas and then with a fair wind and a bit of luck anything is possible. It would be fantastic if we could add Baxter around new year time for a bit more creativity and a final charge. For the first time in a while actually excited about the season ahead. Already looking forward to Girona on Thursday.
  12. https://experimental361.com/2016/10/02/scatter-graphics-league-1-2-oct-2016/ No great surprises but nice graphics.
  13. It lasted for about 1 second after whistle went. It would have been preferable yesterday if they played music for the whole 90 mins to provide a bit more entertainment. Very enjoyable day out. Good banter with Sheffield and Derby fans in town before. Good atmosphere. Didn't think we were that bad and according to the Sheffield fans it's the best they've played all season. They were questioning whether they were watching the right team. Too lightweight as usual. Winchester awful and whole midfield, with exception of Palmer, no positional sense or bite. Defence left way too exposed. Just wanted someone to rough them up a bit and rattle them, they were low on confidence and there for the taking. Anyhow, have a good feeling for next two games despite all that.
  14. http://youtu.be/z7db3_fSqxc That really would be a good signing, quality keeper.
  15. I agree to a point but that was 30 years ago and the world moves on. One of my first football memories was seeing my dad get the crap kicked out of him in the subway behind Elland Road because he was wearing an Oldham scarf. It was possibly one of the most upsetting things I have seen in my life and trust me I have seen a lot of death and misery from places I have worked over the world. It is a fine balance between creating an atmosphere where families feel safe but at the same time has a slight edge and a lot of passion. Most teams I've visited across Europe, Asia, and South America create a very hostile atmosphere for the opposition fans without the need to threaten and intimidate their own fans!! In fact the last dozen times I've seen fighting at football matches have been Oldham fans fighting each other.
  16. I agree entirely. There is very little point arguing with them as they are usually half cut and have the intelligence of a cockroach. They won't be here in a years time but whilst they grace us with their presence a lot of genuine supporters (rather than pissed up drama queens) will have had enough. My youngest woke up at 3am having a nightmare on Sunday morning and it wasn't the appalling football that mentally scarred him. Although that being said for a large part of the game people were supportive and it was only the last 20 minutes that things got a bit heated.
  17. I have to agree. I had the misfortune of being there on Saturday. As usual I took my boys and my niece. The abuse they had to listen to for 90 mins was unbelievable. The sad thing is that I've watch Oldham for over 30 years and seen hundreds of morons come and go, unfortunately the impact they have on the enjoyment for children and families can be huge.
  18. https://audioboom.com/boos/3796803-george-green-talks-about-joining-ossett-albion "Football is supposed to be fun".......
  19. Planning on getting a season ticket for myself, my father, and three children (ages 6, 7, 10). Last few years we've paid on the day in Chaddy. What's best? New stand or the family block of RRE?
  20. This game was played the week of my birthday. Most of my mates at school were city fans and my old man thought it would be a great idea to go to the game and have fish and chips after. We left at half time when it was clear we were developing some kind of acute stress reaction, nobody spoke in the car on the way home and I don't think we talked about it until a week after.
  21. I heard the same thing about a Bunn/Ritchie management duo this weekend. My source is a club employee who in the past is always pretty accurate. Apparently a meeting later in the week with said parties. I wouldn't get too excited about this one, can't see it happening.
  22. Hallelujah! Can keep the wife happy by going to her friend's son's birthday party and still make the match.
  23. Fair point. I must admit that guilt is the reason I have attended half the games over the last couple of seasons. Guilt about not taking my old man and guilt about not giving the club my financial support. I enjoy watching other teams and agree the atmosphere can be fantastic elsewhere; however, it is only at latics when I get butterflies in my stomach before the game and a permanent smile on my face for a day after a win (even if you do have to put up with some tosser in the seat behind).
  24. At what point do you decide that the football meets your expectations and start going again?
