    For a couple of years I watched Stalybridge when there wasn't a latics match. Big soft spot for city (I know) and would probably consider them my second team - my first football shirt was a city one. Melbourne Victory are my A league team - try and catch them as much as I can. In other sports the only team I really follow is Hawthorn in the AFL.

    One of the worst refereeing performances ive seen. Two stone wall penalties turned down, one on each side, and lots of silly missed decisions. But aside from that, the game couldn't flow because he was so whistle happy. The 3 added minutes just rubbed salt in the wounds - wouldn't have helped anyone really, but it was just the wrong amount of time to add on.

    It would be easy to give it to Smith because of the goal, but even without it, he turned the game completely on its head when he came on. We took control as he won everything that came remotely near him. He put in a huge shift, bullying their defenders, and it seemed to give the whole team a lift. It was a case of the right substitute at exactly the right time.

    I'm not actually in Melbourne - just got used to telling people over there that as that's the nearest place they've heard of. I'm in Ballarat.

    BBC commentators thought he was best thing since sliced bread. Kept going on about him, even in the interview with Greg Abbot after the match...

    haha I love latics. It's this sort of stuff that makes it interesting. Im both excited and nervous now, because I think we'll have to do it this season, if we don't want to find ourselves out of business.

    compare that so called premiership referee's performance with Mark Halsey's when he reffed us a while back. Gulf in class is ridiculous.

    for me, there were 2 stonewall penalties.

    we had about 30 appeals for handball in their box. I reckon at least a couple of them were definite penalties. clown.

    We only seem to play down the right. I feel the criticism of taylor is unfair. Dean Brill looks good this season. Just needs to tame that wild side that we saw at the end. I'd like to see dean kelly start. Looked nippy. Whilst DJ is pacey, he didn't really look a threat. at all. and tounkare was poor today. And I'd also like to suggest that the officials were some of the worst we've had in ages. Not biased, just incompetent.

    I'm so glad that someone agrees with me. He is without doubt the worst, but for some others with a similar pedigree, pick at random any member of the ITV football coverage team.
