  1. We’ve not got going - no control in midfield - the ball has been in the air a lot and not much football being played so far Too many niggling fouls and no real chances for either side either.
  2. Dropping Green to the bench is slightly perplexing but maybe MM is not confident enough in his team to play two out and out wide attackers? Kitching had to come back in and will push forward on the left and Sutton will get forward on the right but is obviously preferred over Green because of his defensive qualities.
  3. And there are some crappy grounds at this level… Maidenhead, Dorking and Oxford City to come for me.
  4. If Kitching has recovered, I would start with him at lwb - either Hobson or Sutton to the bench.
  5. For large parts of the game yesterday, we looked like a team that has finally understood how to play winning football in the National League. Inevitably there were one or two poor passages of play when the familiar failings came to the fore (hoofing the ball away, passing to the opposition, poor touches etc.) but we seemed in control for the most part. There were good performances from all but in particular, Green, Hammond, Garner and Fondop. Fondop makes up for what he lacks in footballing intelligence with an abundance of energy and work rate - he is a better player when he doesn't have time to think about what he is doing I reckon. The surprising thing was, given that we had so much of the play, that we didn't have more attempts on goal. That said, it was a very good performance with a great following from Oldham. That's more like it MM.
  6. One thing that wasn’t mentioned by many after Tuesday’s victory was how well Green did tracking back and getting his foot in… And while we’re on the subject, Fondop wins his fair share of defensive headers too
  7. Lawrence Looney, Co-Chair of Altrincham… “You don’t have to be mad to work here, but it helps…”
  8. So 3-5-2. Hobson restored to the starting eleven. I wonder if we’ll see Green play as rwb instead of Sachdev? Also, Hammond to keep his place? And Lundstram has to be in last chance saloon surely?
  9. It’s all well to adopt a style of play that suits the personnel you have but… we are still seeing players afraid to play, lumping the ball forward aimlessly, playing with no urgency or anticipation. Our problem continues to be the midfield. Conlon apart, the likes of Ward, Lundstram and Hammond are still underperforming. Garner resorted to dropping deeper and deeper to get in the ball last night. Yes, Mellon turned it around in the second half but I don’t subscribe to the ‘it’s division five football’ mentality. The manager has to find a way of getting more from the players he inherited and from those he has brought in. Sachdev and Hammond have been disappointing so far - maybe they just need more time. Dallas and Walker have not been fit enough to play much…what’s that all about? League position has improved under MM but the football remains worryingly inconsistent.
  10. The weather forecast shows that it’s going to be persistently raining throughout the game tonight - let’s hope that the pitch survived the rugby boys and is still in reasonable nick. I will be forking out £9.50 of our English pounds for a single camera feed of the match on NLTV - here’s hoping that I get my money’s worth
  11. To put it quite simply… Its time for this squad of ours to turn up.
  12. Also applies to swathes of the country where there are many local clubs … there are some who just want to ‘support’ a team at the top of the league (oh and Man Utd)
  13. If Latics are at home on the same day and at the same time then more can pick Latics over city
  14. He was an early Latics hero of mine - brilliant in the air and a proper ‘old fashioned’ centre forward. It was a pleasure to listen to Sean speak so fondly of his dad and the time he spent at Oldham
  15. or if they do, tell him that he doesn’t need to SHOUT when he has a microphone in his hand!
  16. The great Ricky Holden used to cross the ball early, quite often not even attempting to beat the defender - he also scored a few too. * mind you, putting the ball into the box early is only successful if the strikers get in there too!
  17. You would need to deduct the season ticket holders from that
  18. I reckon we could get over 8k for this one
