I'm going to a question & answer thing in a few weeks with Joe Royle in the chair. Saw him in the pub last week and mentioned to him that I could recall not all his signings were world beaters. It might have been covered elsewhere but who do people think were Joe's worst signings, prior to the glory days, i.e. not Ian Olney !!

Don't remember the Latics fan on the pitch but two southampton fans ran across and one of them showed his arse. It was also quite balmy in Southampton, but snowing in Oldham when the train got back. Anyone admit to being locked out due to just one more pint in the pub?

From today's Glasgow Evening Times................ Another player set to move on is Dean Furman after Oldham agreed a deal with Rangers to sign him. I wonder if this could be an omen......... Martyn, who was born in Surrey but raised in Glasgow, recently received an OBE in the New Year's Honours for his contribution to music. He died in hospital in Ireland, where he had been living in Kilkenny in recent years Spooky !

No, it's the house that Hughesy owns, in Diggle. He was in a rented house in Dobcross for the first six months, then bought his own place. Not sure what shoe size or star sign he is, but I'll let you know if I find out.......

Hughes is definitely going, he's was told by Corney three weeks ago that we have to sell him. The only stumbling block is the price. Doncaster wouldn't raise their first offer of £200,000, they obviously feel they've got Latics over a barrell after the Porter fiasco. He's not happy about it but he's already in the process of renting his house out in preparation for the move.

I was speaking to Hughesey's next door neighbour last Saturday, told me that Doncaster have offered £200k and the club are demanding for £250k. This must include Byfield as the balance. The story was repeated to me today by someone who knows nothing about football but was in the pub with Hughes after the Hartlepool game. Neighbour told me that Corney has had Hughesey in and told him he has to go to balance the books, clearly with Porter in mind. Doncaster have told him they'll sort out transport for the first six months, then he'll have to move. Hopefully Doncaster will refuse to stump up the extra £50k and Hughes & Windass will turn out to be the new Ritchie & Palmer. If the owners have any real ambition, which recent signings seem to indicate, then letting Hughes go at this point would be crazy. The clock's ticking and the omens aren't good, but hopefully things will turn out right in the end. Over to you Deano......................

Our local MP and the Government "Floods Minister" (do we still have a Minister for Drought ?) compares the prospect of Norfolk flooding with Latics winning the European Cup. This is more than a rumour, though they're just talking at the moment. Looks like they are looking into developing the Curzon Ashton ground, increasing the capacity to around 15,000. Boundary Park to Richmond Park !

Looks like the bottom falling out of the housing market may have a significant effect on the proposed development of BP ! I understand Latics' owners have been speaking to Tameside Council about a possible move to Ashton !!
