  1. I’m a Gardner fan, please don’t shoot. Granted he gave the ball away far to many times yesterday, but he is always trying something, he drives us forward and his work rate and endeavour are unquestionable. Too many players play the easy option for fear of making mistakes.
  2. Think I'm getting a bit giddy here but have just put a tenner each on Latics for top 6 at 80:1 and top half at 12:1 with sky bet. Good odds surely or am I way off the mark.
  3. MY FINAL VIEW ON THE TOPIC When this issue first hit the headlines, I was dead against the idea of a convicted Rapist Playing for my club. However, the more I have read up on the topic, the more I consider that Ched Evans should be given a second chance in life. In rape cases, the issue frequently revolves around 'does no mean no?' In Cheds case, the issue appears to hinge around 'does yes mean yes?'. The evidence given by both Ched and Clatron as far as I can see has been accepted that she said Yes in that hotel room. She was unable to confirm or deny one way or the other due to her memory loss. There are rapists and rapists. The incident in the news this week where a young girl was abducted and put through a torrid sexual ordeal is not in the same league. Ok, so the verdict went against Ched in his case, but judging by the strong emotions on both sides it is clear that public opinion is divided. It could quite easily have gone for him and he could have be playing alongside Clayton Donaldson this afternoon. I am now proud of my club for being prepared to stand up to the ferocious media attention and whilst ithis could not ultimately be sustantained, I intend to stand proud this afternoon and we should all use this to galvanise us and get behind the boys......COME ON LATICS!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. And for the record, I too feel sorry for her and know from personal experience that the issue of her seemingly being violated in that room on that night are now not the problem, but rather the continued media involvement, his web site and message boards such as this. There are no winners in all this and the best thing now is for it all to calm down.
  5. You're right and there's no getting away from that fact. That's why he can never win and I could never win an arguement on his behalf. I just believe after reading the facts of the case that he has been treated very harsly and even now after serving his sentence, society seems reluctant to let him rebuild his life. He did say in his earlier statement that given the chance, he would prove to be a useful in the community (or words to that effect). Isn't that his way of saying, that he would use his high profile position to educate and inform. Hwe was only 22, a young boy, and meanwhile is friend is happily playing football after being found not guilty with almost the same evidence.
  6. That's the point, he truely believes he hasn't. He did issue a carefully worded statement a few weeks back, presumnably drafted by his team of legal experts. He can not admit guilty, besides ruining his case for appeal, why should he!
  7. Critised for not making a statement, now critised for making a statement. Lose Lose situation I'm afraid, whats the poor guy meant to do??
  8. A wins a win, so does that mean its 6 wins on the bounce??
  9. Don't think it's been mentioned yet, but the bloke sat next to me said he was speaking to Gordon at half time. Apparently a virus has been going around and many of the the squad had been told to stay away. Noted the lack of options on the bench given the strength in depth we have this year. I had to search on google to find out who 'Tuory' was (no disrespect), and Forte played with effects of the virus and with his knee playing up. It wasn't a great performance but don't be too critical. A case of turning up, doing a job, great result and we move on. I expect LJ to eco these thoughts in his match summary, and now a week to recover for the next big test 'Crawley next Sat'
  10. All of a sudden in seems as we though we have strength in depth (except perhaps centre half) and LJ talks about plan A's, B's and C's. Confidence breads confidence and it would be a mistake to change the starting eleven for Saturday and drop any of the young lads who have played so well in the last couple of games. In fact, we held our shape much better tonight, which might not have been the case if Baxter had played. Don't get me wrong, I think Baxter is class but he is prone to drifting in and out of games. We should certainly introduce him at some stage. What a nice option to have.
  11. Reduced prices on its own hasn't in the past significantly increased attendances. Scunthorpe charged £5 yesterday and still there was just over 4000 at the game. So lets try something different. What about 'Season ticket holders can bring a friend for free, kids free and £5 for other adults paying on the day.' That was fantastic yesterday, but we're not out of the woods yet.
  12. I was texting my mate on holiday, whilst listening to Latics player during Tuesdays game and reading back thought I'd share some my comments:- - Like a pin ball machine in Preston's box could have gone anywhere. Mvoto booked for incident following resulting corner. - Quote 'He's ambling around, looks out of sorts and every time he goes anywhere near the ball he gives away a free kick. Who am I?? - Good effort from baxter described as surreal, followed by partial flood light failure but game continuing, followed by Latics sub Tarky for Byrne, followed by latics free kick resulting in finger tip save from Baxter, ball in back of net from resulting corner ruled out for foul and chants of 'Off Off Off' for Mvoto fool!!! - Half time stats - Latics first, possession 53 - 47, shots 8-5 (3-2 on target) corners 6-1, fouls (Mvoto) 11-8, Score 0-0 Quote 'Mvoto comes in with a header (pause) the ball goes skywards!!!' - Mvoto another speaking to after clumsy challenge, last chance - Across comes mvoto but shins the ball into touch, 3 remaining Needless to say, I don't rate him, he's athletic enough but lacks basic footballing brains and composure - I think he is playing at just about his level, and for him to think he can player any higher is just laughable
  13. Yes, but apparently one is not to stay with Latics beyond this season, so in essence it makes not odds to him whether we survive or not
  14. Just found out today that Mvoto is planning to leave at end of season. Apparently, if he doesn't get good offer from premiership he's going back to France..............'Adieu'
  15. Yeh sorry. And I bet the stewards wouldn't be too concerned if they new that the standing was not bothering anybody in these designated areas
  16. Great idea in principal, but I would approach the powers that be with the idea that it could be a trial to generate a better atmosphere for those wishing to be more vocal. I would certainly not mention the standing issue as this is against all ground rules and the idea would be squashed.
  17. I found myself for the most part, neither seated nor standing. A sort of apologetic half crouch for the benefit of the poor chap behind me, but high enough to pier over the shoulders and between the heads of the morons a few rows in front. Resembled a nodding dog at times with one leg behind the other ready to spring up to attain a full clear few should the need arise. Still aching 3 days later.
  18. Sorry didn't mean to turn this into a witch hunt, but your attitude reminded me so much of the 5 or so lads who stood in front of us for the whole of the game. You have just put yourself forward to be shot at but you've gotta admit that you have not covered yourself in glory. Its just that it's so frustrating having some lads in their mid twenties assuming that I'm only at Anfield for a one off occasion when many of us have been loyal regular supporters for the majority of our lifes.
  19. I am usually a silent observer on this forum and rarely contribute to discussions, but feel so incensed by the selfish and aggressive attitude of the boneheads referred to in the original post, that I feel compelled to throw in my two penith on this occasion. This attitude can be summed up in the post made by 'The gaffer' Like other respectable supporters on here I have been a season ticket holder for over 35 years since my early teens and whilst I am possibly more reserved than I use to be, I have certainly never been ejected from any football ground or been involved in any kind of trouble. Remember the good old days, bouncing around on the timber planks at the top section of the Chaddy, getting lost in the fog over the tops on the way to Sheffield, and after we had descended realising that we weren't in the fog anymore but the windows had steamed up and, going to Notts County in our promotion season to the top flight dressed as a frog, accompanied by a chicken and a hen.Yeh I/ we have many memories. I love our club and would fight to protect its reputation. As is the case with the racist obscenities from the mindless idiot from Liverpool, what gives 'The gaffer' the right to say what they like to others or do what they want and then try and defend there actions by implying that they are doing this for the benefit of the club and that they are the real supporters. NO YOU ARE NO NOT. By coming on here and admitting that you are the thug who was evicted says all that we need to know about the person you really are.
  20. Unable to vote on the pole because one question missing 'Couldn't go if the game had been at the weekend, but able to go now it's on the Friday?' I am on call over the weekend. Seems sensible to me and the only real option for both clubs. Couldn't be Saturday because Everton at home and many floating Latic's fans in the area have either City or United as their first choice team and may have been discouraged against going with the the derby being on the Sunday at 1pm.
