  10. Home to Ipswich, 4th April and we won 4-0. Thanks to OAFC Prozac, I know know that it was the game that Roger Palmer broke the scoring record. I had no idea as a 7 year old kid what I had witnessed!
  11. Hi I posted a few weeks ago about putting together a frame of bits and bobs of my first ever latcis game with my dad, and I have managed to get a match report and programme from the game, mainly thanks to the posters on here. I was wondering if anyone here would know if/where I could get a squad photo from for the 1988/89 season. I think this would really finish the whole thing off. Mods, apologies if this is posted in the wrong place. Cheers Craig
  12. Thanks all for your help. I have managed to find one on the interweb for £2.60!! I have also managed to get a copy of the match report from the Chron! Cheers again Craig
  13. I honestly didnt realise the significane of the match. I was only 6 and all I can remember is (god I hope this is the right game now) Paul Warhurst being taken to hospital. It was the most exciting night of my life and IIRC we won 4-0. A lot of beer has been cosumed since then and the old grey matter isnt what it used to be!
  14. Hi, not sure if this is the right place to post htis but.... Its my Dad's 50th birthday in a few weeks and I am trying to get hold of the programme for the first ever latics match he took me to. Its the Latics v Ipswich game, 4th April 1988. Can anyone give me some advice on where I amy be able to get my hands on one? Thanks in advance Craig
  15. I don’t post very often, but spend quite a lot of time reading. Some of the utter drivel I have seen spouted on here over the last few hours has made me feel compelled to post my views (for what they are worth!). Oldham Athletic are not, and never have been a "big" club. Historically, bar a few seasons flirting with the big boys, we have been a lower league team, generally happy with our lot and enjoying the occasional cup run. It seems that since the hey-days of Royle's era, most fans feel we have a divine right to be back up there, playing the Scums and Scousers week in, week out. WE DONT! We are a big town in regards to population and geography, but this doesn’t automatically mean we should be keeping up with the likes of Bolton, Burnley, and Preston etc. If you situated anyone of those clubs in the geographical position where Oldham is i.e. in the catchment area of City and Utd, would they be able to draw the crowds they do and progress the way they do? I honestly don’t think so. TTA seem to me to be doing their bloody hardest to ensure the town have a club which can be financially sustainable with a ground we can be proud of. For me, at best, latics will be a mediocre Championship side, with the odd flirtation with the play-offs as highlights. With the money that is currently being ploughed into the greedy league, it is unrealistic to think we can even compete with the higher end of the championship unless sheik toomuchmoneytogiveatoss comes in and buy's out TTA. It seems to me that most people will not be happy unless this happens though. If TTA are willing to put their own hard earned and time back into this ungrateful, backwards thinking town, I salute them. I certainly wouldn’t if I were them. And if they make a few quid out of it, good. i think they deserve to. I for one can’t question their rationale for choosing the site. For the last 6 years, they have tried endlessly to work up plans for a better stadium, which were kyboshed by various factors; the same can be said for the site of the stadium when the redevelopment went out of the window. So it’s a bit further away from the top end of Broadway. Its on the border of Oldham and Manchester. SO WHAT??? For those of you worrying about the club loosing its identity because of this, how does it differ from moving the club to Tameside? IIRC this was the preferred option for quite a lot of people a while back. The Lancaster club is in Oldham. Its transport links are as good, if not soon to be better than those at Boundary Park. Some people in Royton and Shaw will have to travel a little further. Some people in Chadderton will have to travel a little less. It’s all down to individual wants and needs. You will never make everyone happy! Our current attendances are crap. Will they realistically double in the next few years, week in week out? Can anyone realistically answer yes to that question? I can’t! TTA have draft plans for a 12000 stadium, which a lot of people see as modest. Maybe it is, but I would rather have a packed out 12000 stadium than a half empty 20000 stadium. Should the need arise to expand; I cannot see TTA being short-sighted enough to not envisage this requirement. Change happens, it’s inevitable. Embrace it, and support TTA in giving this town a club we can be even more proud of, more so than we already are! I await the usual vitriolic abuse so called happy clappers tend to receive! Rant over Craig
  16. And Ravenhill has signed for Notts County. Double sigh of relief
  17. James Scowcroft? Was he at Ipswich with Joe?
  18. Throw away comment at the end of the MEN article, BFJ was having a look at Ian Westlake whilst watching Trannies and Cheltenham last night.
  19. The Forest CEO or whoever he is has come out and said that he doesnt want a manager without Championship experience. Rules Cloughie Jnr out.
  20. I was suprised myself to be honest. I can only go off what I have read on the local rag message board and a few other websites. Stuart Pearce was another name bandied about, but Laws is the name I have seen most often
  21. I don’t post very often, but something I have just read on the Nottingham Evening Rag website has got me thinking. The have a shortlist of 5 candidates, some still in work. The odds on favourite is Billy Davies, and that is going down like a dose of the clap with most of the Forrest Fans. The fans choice (pretty unanimously) from the various bits and bobs posted about on t'internet is a certain Mr Laws from Sheff Weds. Played for them and mentioned he would love the chance of managing there. If this happens, may a certain Shez put paid to a lot of discussions on this forum and bugger off making a certain few very happy, and the majority very unhappy?? BTW, can’t substantiate anything really, just conjecture from Forrest fans, but gets you thinking....... Cheers Craig
