  1. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/e...v_2/8253722.stm Try this - shows Brill having his best game so far, the stubborn resistance yet total disorganisation around our home penalty box and the damp squibs we call our forwards!! What happened to coaching? BR able to score winner in injury time by keeping it simple and totally foxing Hazell, Gregan etc.
  2. Is that Pawell Abbott modelling? If so, I might question my own sexuality!!
  3. Seems appropriate (not!!) that on the day that SC is wanting to lodge his support for the new LaticsWorld that his very own feature should get stuck in some etherland leaving us only to ponder what exactly about the new LW he was supporting!!!
  4. I'm not so sure having Leeds on a Tuesday night for the 3rd year running is exactly fair. We need the revenue and a packed BP on a Saturday is a far better guarantee of that!! Then, I am biased cos I'm faced with a 360 mile return trip to BP and back for every home match. But there's more southern based Latics fans would love to have that fixture more accessible.
  5. Come on lads, this is no way to speak of one of our best and most loyal managers and coaches.... ever. So we're going through a low patch - albeit brief. All you lot quickly forget the heroic performances we put on display for the nation to see at Leicester!! And, I hope we'll repeat a similar determined performance, (although with a full compliment of players!!), against the scum from Leeds. Maybe we'll miss out on promotion, yet again, and the disappointment will be tangible throughout the town - yes, even the stay-at-home in my comfortable armchair, City/United (call themselves supporters!), brigade secretly want us to do well. But don't let it spill out into recriminations against the boss - I'm sorry, its the players who let us down, possibly disenchanted after playing in the splendid arena at the Walkers Stadium, to be repeatedly confronted by a mere 4000 fans at home, half of whom spend much of the match slagging of their 'victim-of-the-day' player. Get a life, you lot! Remember what persuaded you to support Oldham in the first place? It certainly wasn't guaranteed wins and consistent entertainment from world-class players. Get off Shez's back cos I know he'll be his own worst critic and doesn't need any more rebuffs to his confidence. Its more vital than ever now that we all get behind JS and the lads - make sure they know they've got our FULL support, whatever the outcome of occasional matches like last night.
  6. s'funny, as of 14.55 on 19/2, Hughesey had no votes according to the poll!!?
  7. My son and I both held our heads in our hands on seeing that back-pass, speculating on how many we'd lose by - surely not another Hereford result, please?!! We'd become prematurely optimistic that, for once, the 'Good Luck' genie was with with us and that the Leicester forwards would continue in the second half to screw up the meagre chances we let them have, provided the ref stabilised his decision making and let the game flow. In the end, the ref and lino closest to the away supporters were shocking with their decisions and especially inconsistent when it came to booking our lads, Fleming excepted. First half it had been difficult to single out one individual - Gregan was rock solid, Hazell was incredibly resilient against those tricky Leicester forwards, Taylor kept showin master-class movement forward taking out 2 Leicester players usually to keep him bottled up and all the lads were demonstrating the 'fight' that's been missing from recent games. Maher was (mostly!) reassuring and Allot was effective in a tight midfield, combining to turn defence into effective attack so perhaps the lads would sneak one before the end. Surprisingly, it seemed that we built just as many attacks 'post-Windass' as we had in the first half and any one of about 5 golden opportunities could have brought us the 3 points. Hughesey played out of his skin, chasing everything and worrying the Leicester defenders despite the absence of a striking partner. I'd tend to agree that all of the players deserve commendations, but, for me, Hazell took the M-O-M and both he and Taylor esp probably added a couple of hundred thousand to their values!
  8. Hope we'll be in the top 3/4 - better still 2nd or top - earlier form showed we were virtually unbeatable and we take on top sides positively with imagination and flair. However, why, why, why do we continually allow mediochre to rubbish bottom sides drag us down to their level? It's been the same in previous seasons - precious points thrown away against inferior sides when we've show we can hammer sides like Scunthorpe and Leeds. The display at Cheltenham ws less than convincing despite the fight back ..... a curious and frightening lack of interest from Gregan didn't help. Worryingly, Gregan who can be the prime mover and instiller of confidence can also let the side down when he fails to lead from the back - the Olowusu 'shirt-pull' challenge leading to their penalty was so naive and was so disappointing from an experienced and potentially class performer. Perhaps Maher should take over for a couple of matches? As for JS - he must be rubbing his eyes in disbelief at the change in form and consistency since the opening half dozen matches. Hopefully this 'head-hanging' lack of confidence permeating the side has happened early enough in the season for him to address and train-out. I believe he's already got the nucleus of a division-winning squad and the support isn't half bad when called upon and in the right mood. Its doubtful the 3 Amigos in the present financial climate will be prepared to throw more money at the side after Christmas, John I'm afraid it's very much up to you to use those coaching skills to instil that consistency that brings more positive results and ultimately, the much needed revenue from dispirited Oldham crowds.
  9. .....that can't happen either, Jonesy. They would only fit about 5000 in the Carlisle ground and we all know how feeble and desperate Leeds supporters sound when up against a strong (er) club.
  10. Why does it always seem to be Latics scraping the barrel during the selling period ? Are we just not fancied by the talent we're after? I know there are cash constraints but presumably Shez has more sense than to pitch for a player that carries an exorbitant transfer fee and I know he wouldn't want to import inflated salaries (a la Kilkenny) and thus limit his options with other players. Now a £500k income boost from the sale of Trotman might help but, to be honest, I'd be loathe to see him go and really hope we can get him to sign a new contract soon. The FA Cup run has been a help but in these markets £250-300k is chicken-feed. Anyone know why he's been targeting Leon Clarke? He was good on loan last year but he's def expensive and I would have thought our priorities lie in mid-field and defense at the mo. Now 2 away matches before Huddersfield arrive to taunt us.......can we keep up the away momentum? Its worth a tenner on Laticsbet any day - Everton won me £230!!
  11. Glad to be here - although it all looks a bit complicated at the moment!! I'll get used to it.
