  1. Would the guy who used to be at Shrewsbury and now General Manager at Burnley be interested, I read somewhere he was a Latic and from Shaw?
  2. I heard over the weekend from a couple of people who work at the club that Corney had told them he'd had enough and was selling up. I also heard, all be it in a pub that Corney had approached the CEO at Shrewsbury who is apparently an Oldham supporter to come in as MD and to assist in the selling of the club. I am only passing on what I heard so don't shoot me!!
  3. Was sent off playing for school and taking out Ricky Edghill with a two footed lunge, he was the year below but was a talent!
  4. Fair play to Martin, but I still beg the question, why aren't the Community Trust passing the info on to the rarely wrong and to the web monkey so we can all see it? Communication and information is key!
  5. Whilst the majority of us have no experience of the day to day running of the club, it does concern me that we are not doing the basics right. I know many exiled supporters who would spend a good few quid on merchandise via a decent online club shop and I read somewhere that players under the terms of their contracts have to do 2-3 hours of community work a week, perhaps I have missed it, but I don't recall getting the rarely wrong and seeing daily stories of our overpaid players visiting schools, opening fairs etc, the more players that are in the community the more chance the youngsters will want to watch OAFC, we have to get to grassroots and get people involved. I am sure we can all post on here exactly what is wrong with the club and suggest ideas of how to make it better, but surely that is the job of the CEO and his team of staff
  6. Jim - we are that big of an organisation to have two accountants?! I think not! I am not prepared to reveal my HP on his qualification, but it came from someone within the club. The job of the CEO is to manage the day to day running of the business in my opinion this includes working with the manager providing him with guidance contacts and knowledge to ensure the club signs the best players on the best possible deal for this football club. For me it is the CEO and or Chairman to conduct negotiations for players after the manager has identified them and to be honest if I was SC I would be questioning both NJ and LJ on how my business was being run. Football aside, the clubs perception in the town is at an all time low and with the exception of Broady and the new web monkey the club don't seem to be well blessed with quality staff nor does their appear to be a business plan or any desire to boost attendances, the online club shop is frankly a disgrace, the match day programme is one of the worst in the division and the general apathy begins at the top. SC by his own admission has other issues on the go and I understand totally especially those surrounding his family, so the baton then passes to the Board and CEO, Barry god love him tries his best although appears to be out of his depth, Ian Hill seems to swan around with his head in the clouds, hence the need for an experienced CEO who can rattle cages and kick start our club. I appreciate a good CEO would probably cost double that of NJ, but surely it would be money well spent afterall we do waste a fair amount of money on loan player and football staff who are clearly not good enough. Perhaps NJ could be a bit more vocal in the vision of the club and his role in it? Ktf
  7. Main Stand Banter - Yes I do think he could effect things on the pitch. A good CEO of a Football Club will have a vast experience and will be able to assist the manager in terms of recruitment, he should be a well respected figure who can pick up the phone and ensure the club gets the best possible players at the best possible rate, he should work with the manager and guide the manage, he should also guide the Chairman and at the present time it does look like the blind are leading the blind. If he was a fully qualified accountant (which he isn't) and he was as good as some of you clearly think he is then he wouldn't be at OAFC he would walk into a top accountants earning considerably more than he does at BP and as rude points out, we have a young lass now doing the accounts and I am sure SC will have a company dealing with the tax implications so what does he do on daily basis? Perhaps he could come out tell us!
  8. An experienced chief executive who is knowledgable and well respected in the game? Before people jump all over me for this, hear me out.... Corney as we know is spending more and more time with his family in New York and therefore the day to day running of the club is as I understand it left to Neil Joy and Barry Owen. Whilst Neil was probably a competent book keeper does he have the contacts, knowledge, confidence and abilities to support LJ? What does he actually do? We hear from Barry Owen on a regular basis and when Alan was there he used to communicate more than Mr Joy ever has. For me his appointment following Alan Hardy's retirement was definitely the cheap option and one that is doing us no favours. We are stuck with Johnson so why not get someone to help or put pressure on him to justify some of his bizarre actions. Ktf
  9. Johnson's appointment is terrible news for the club. Having to justify the expense when the team are performing so poorly is difficult in the current financial climate and whilst it is great for people like Pete to judge, I for one won't be renewing my season ticket as I no longer feel that I can justify the cost when I have a wife and kids that are more important. Sad day for OAFC
  10. Moog is the secretary, I know him as well, but he hasn't replied to my e-mail. Last time I spoke to him he was desperate to get the CEO role at BP when Alan Hardy retired. Steve Wales is the lashers kit man, well known around the local cricket scene. He text me to tell me that he has been told to arrange a training kit and print a shirt ahead of their trip to Wolves. Beats why people treat such info with the contempt they do.
  11. Will be announced on Friday morning - source is the lashers kit man who hails from Shaw
  12. Pretty sure we would be entiteld to something Palmer even if it is a nominal amount! The rule is that if a player is Under 24 and is offered no less favourable terms then his previous club will be entitled to compensation. Be interesting to see if we did offer same/better terms of allowed him to walk for free for offering less terms. Wonder if anyone will ever clarify!
  13. Not sure how it works, but surely if we have offered Evina a quid more than he was on last season with us, owing to the fact he is under 24 and has joined Charlton we should be entitled to some form of compo!
  14. Anyone from Blackpool / Preston areas travelling down and has room for a big un for a share of the petrol - give me a shout!
  15. There is a time and a place for expressing the grim position and IMO 48 hours after Saturday via the OS is not good PR. The focus of AH and those who market the club must be to get people through the gate and TBH I can't see anyone wanting to jump off their stool and get to the games based on his remarks this morning, the club should portray a togetherness and I bet the interview has gone down quicker than a bird from the Candlelight with the manager! Surely interviews (even if they are contrived) from the players apologising for letting the club and supporters down would be better PR than the CEO referring to a result against a team one division below as embarrassing, we all need to remain positive, afterall we would all be German if our ancestors hadn't! Saturday is in the past, as supporters we can hold court on whether team selection etc is correct but for me the club should now be challenging supporters to get to the game on Saturday and raise the roof and the spin doctors at the club should be doing their bit with interviews from the players saying how gutted they are for the club and how they want to bounce back etc etc etc
  16. I am not sure I agree with Alan Hardy's decision to publicly slate the result, we all know that we could have done with a cup run but surely the club should have a united front and sing from the same hymn sheet and perhaps look ahead to ensuring me are not out numbered on Saturday when we play Huddersfield. I know the club are in a mess financially as to most fans, but we don't want it constantly rammed down our throats! PR doesn't seem to be the best at the moment and hasn't been the same since Stu Vose left for the bright lights of the Premier League, whilst I know Tony Bugby is a Latics fan he needs to remember he is working for the club and thus try and be positive, it is their job to make sure we come and support the boys.
  17. "Captain" is currently training the keepers at Blackpool Mate of mine is on holiday in Devon and he went to watch them last night against Accrington and he said big Jon was putting the Lasher keepers through their paces!
  18. Anyone else on here go to the evening with Marshall, Ritchie at Warhurst organised by Matty Tipton last night? If you didn't you missed a great night with three legends from our club, Marshall was outstanding and you could tell the three had many more tales to tell. The highlight from me was when the MC asked Marshall - "Boundary Park or Failsworth?" to which Marshall replied "Where the F$£k is Failsworth?" which brought the house down, He told a great tale about the hotel incident after the final and spoke of his desire to get in to coaching full time. Ritchie had some good tales about his time as Colin's assistant and his thoughts on Chris Moore - I think the word he used to describe him began with t and ended in t! Warhurst is an agent now and seemed a top guy, the curry and surroundings were top quality and the event was well worth a tenner.
  19. I am going to the one that Matthew Tipton has orgnaised at Shaw Cricket Club the Thursday before, it is a tenner for a curry supper and a Q&A with Ritchie, Warhurst and Ian Marshall, more affordable and local for me.
  20. RIP Thoughts go to his family at this very sad
  21. Anyone notice the Lashers are doing the same March campaign as we are, however their season ticket holders get a free pie and bottle of "pop", wonder if they have the same problems as we do in the Chaddy with pies running out
  22. Anyone noticed that Matthew Tipton has organised an evening with three Latics Legends at Shaw Cricket Club? http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/ev...3274&ref=nf Looks a decent event - at a tenner I wonder if there is any grub on offer - certainly cheaper than the club do at the QE Hall
  23. Thanks for taking the time out to do this, I am sure would have been fascinating and full credit to Alan Hardy, Neil Joy and Simon Corney for granting access. Could you ask Alan whether the player's salaries drop should the club be relegated, I would hope that the club would use commonsense and have a figure based on League One because you can bet your bottom dollar the players have an increase in the event of promotion! I don't want to appear to be Mr Doom and Gloom, but surely with a playing wage bill of £1.6million we should be performing slightly better in the League table and would be doing if he was shown the door!
  24. What has gone wrong at our club? How do we find ourselves in the bottom four of a terrible division? How can we go from challenging for promotion under Shez to the realistic possibility of dropping into League Two and obscurity? It sickens me to see that the Lashers who were an equal if not lesser club to us three years ago challenging for the play-offs whilst we are infighting and bickering about survival in this woeful League. The TTA have to shoulder some of the blame, other than Shez their managerial appointments have been awful, in fact I said after Shez got the bullet that it was a mistake and the appointment of Dave Penney still leaves me perplexed. In the car back from last night’s abject performance, we got on to the subject of the disastrous managerial appointments made by our saviours, BRIAN TALBOT who was never going to succeed given his style of football and approach to the faithful was appointed after Steve McMahon didn’t leave the Lashers, Ronnie Moore enough said about him and more recently Talbot. I understand that Penney is one of the top earners on the football side of the business at Boundary Park and I am sure it will cost a small fortune to get rid, but the TTA have to act NOW otherwise with all the will in the world we will go down and season ticket sales will be rock bottom, we are spiralling into oblivion and something needs to be done to stop the rot (a famous saying of yester year) I know that Mr Corney regularly reads this forum and I would urge him to place Mr Penney and his coaching staff and dour tactics on gardening leave and bring in a young hungry manager who is desperate to succeed, I am sure Bill Urmson and co would jump at the chance to save this club from the drop. Penney out Jesus what a long post! ha
