  1. Was technically the 2nd at nearly midnight, announced on the morning of the 3rd
  2. the game is pay on the gate which should hopefully attract more people on the night. tickets will be pre-sold for the main stand upper only. the carlisle game was chosen for a couple of reasons, first one to get an instant lift and hope it has a knock on effect for the rest of the season...another reason is that the Champions League games start on TV soon, and always have an effect on attendances i appreciate everyones thoughts on the idea, it has taken quite a lot of organising and local businesses have put their money where their mouths are in a difficult economic climate we just really hope that people respond in good numbers which will give us a boost in the coming weeks thanks martin thomas
  3. take it from me mate..... dont believe everything you hear
  4. kungfoo, what planet are you on? where on earth did you get that Will wanted 4k a week?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you wouldnt believe how far from the truth you are. i really wish people on here would not speculate on information that they do not have a clue about, claiming that its 100% true. Will has signed for morecambe this afternoon, he trained with us and blackpool as we all know in the hope of getting a deal, but unfortunately that never worked out. he is happy to sign for morecambe where all he wants to do is play every week, and be a solid servant to his employers. he has been an excellent servant for us down the years, he knew his limits but he never gave less than 100% he is a regular visitor to watch latics in his free time , the club is very close to his heart , and he will continue to come to games when he can and support the club. he was really appreciative that DP let him get fit in pre season, and he proved to be a model professional in his attitude in pre season. i just wish some people on here would give a positive view on things and not constantly try to ruin reputations of certain players, particularly ones who dont deserve anything but the best wishes from us all. ................................and before you ask how i know this info, plenty of people on here know who i am and that i dont need to give any false information cheers
  5. hi mate, no he died at 11.50pm on 2nd july we were all obviuosly made aware the next morning and some confusion as arisen about the date, but it was 2nd july cheers
  6. afternoon all how time flies........its the first anniversary of ernie cooksey dying today, his death pronounced on 11.50pm on 2nd july 2008. i have spoken to his partner louise today and passed on the regards of every oldham athletic fan looking through the internet this morning, i am amazed at how many tributes and articles have appeared following his death, some really nice happy memories ...some sad ones too. god bless you ernie xxx thank you martin
  7. cheers mate this one is from the other week, hope you like this too: it was a bleak saturday afternoon in leicester, bitter cold for the time of the year when out of the blue a miracle suddenly started to appear a 40 stone player called windass, put his big fat hand in the air "handball" shouted the visiting masses, has he saved the ball with the aide of a chair see his big fat belly couldnt move him, just quick enough to to get to the ball so pulling a seat from the disabled, he made a save that was totally top drawer ............then Capello came onto the phone I want the 40 stone keeper And not for a meaningless loan I want him to play for beloved england against the european champs he could cover for the whole of the back four or becks, gerrard or lamps he is going to be the new saviour the one that we want in the team to win us back the world cup .......... .... then i wake up and its just a dream!
  8. LINK TO PINK I thought Id seen everything watching Oldham Joy, Heartache, anger and frustration to name just a few Promotion, Relegation and play offs But this one has come out the blue Gregan & Windass the hard men The backbone of Sheridans team Will shudder when told there to play Leeds In a kit that nobody has ever seen! You see we are big into breasts down at Boundary And they are always on our players mind But this time its purely for charity And no calenders this time you will find See to support this well worth charity When the lads play against Leeds live on sky Running down through the tunnel the hard men Will be wearing a one off kit… Oh my! What united did in black in the 90s And Purple on Coventry’s hay day We’ve pushed the boat out this time for charity And its not even Chelsea’s salmon / grey See when we support a worthwhile charity Reputations are put to one side We are the breast men of Oldham Where pace and Windass are mentioned at the same time See Breast Cancer is a big killer And awareness is the name of the game So Pink we will be wearing against Leeds And we will play with the breast full of pride
  9. how dare you questions peoples motives to carry on celebrating ernie's memory in the way they feel fit. the people involved , or dragger abouters, as you so rudely tag them, are the most decent football fans/people you could ever wish to meet, and the way you are insulting them is outrageous. just because the flag doesnt name a charity, name a disease etc doesnt mean its worthless in any shape or form, and is purely a way of celebrating ernie's impact on a football club. please promote your charity in any way you see fit, but i think you may have just scored the biggest own goal ever with your insensitive comments. thanks
  10. i have just spoken to pete at barmy flags and they have pulled out all the stops to get the flag ready for tomorrow morning!! i am collecting and paying for the flag before the game so it will be on display for kick off. massive thanks to www.barmyflags.com (small but fully deserved plug), as not only have they pulled out the stops to make it so quickly they have also done it at cost, top lads. i know ernie would be proud of everyone involved. spoke to mark, and i wish him all the best for a speedy recovery on another quick note, spoke to louise a few days ago and she sent some pics of isobella through, she is doing so well and really does have a remarkable resemblance to ernie ....his spirit will forever live on. cheers martin
  11. haha , brilliant work!!! i say lets go for it, positive exposure is what the club and the town needs. we can rise above the ridicule...cant we?!!
  12. i presume colours do have to be registered but would imagine the league will have given special permission... its only a guess at the mo, but seems possible after something i heard earlier today. would be a brilliant thing to do, especially with the recent death of ernie , and his unsuccessful battle with cancer.
  13. i have a hunch we may be playing in a pink kit in a forthcoming game, similiar to what oldham rugby did not so long ago. think it was to publicise a breast cancer charity...maybe for the televised leeds game i am guessing? would be a great gesture and one that would bring much needed exposure...... .....queue the gags!!!!!!!!
  14. by the way, the range rover with the OASIS plate belongs to eddie benedek , who owns leesfield developments (sponsors of the rochdale rd end), he also owns the plate O11DHAM. top fella
  15. rick doesnt drive a range rover, he drives a chrysler 300C...how do i know? i do his cars! i think the stick he gets is way over the top. when we arranged the game for ernie last year, rick was one of the first to volunteer and even played when his club told him not too. he also attends latics games when he can, and genuinely as an affinity for the place. the fact that he left to improve his career and earnings is entirely his own right, which one of us wouldnt do the same? just because they are footballers, we expect them to be different, i can never understand this thinking. who can argue when rick was here he never gave 100% for the team. cheers
  16. he is playing for reserves tuesday...hoping to be in contention for a first team place asap...good luck trots
  17. that was ernie's father in law, kevin. i will ask if he can post some of the images/videos. looked awesome from the other side.
  18. class. was really emotional to see the response from all 4 corners of the ground. all ernie's family and friends were once again blown away by the support shown. big thanks to rochdale fc also for their hospitality last night, making louise, isobella, john, joanne and all feel really welcome. cheers, martin
  19. he comes to as many games as he can , like the derby game last week. top man
  20. i am pleased to let everyone know that baby isobella georgia arrived this morning safe and well. louise and baby are both good. i am certain ernie will be smiling down on them both right now i have passed on the best wishes of every oldham fan to the family cheers martin
  21. yeah i will ask the funeral director if they can forward it on to me, would be good to share it with everyone, some lovely images
  22. evening all i have returned from london today after ernie's funeral and just thought i would add my thanks and gratitude to all who attended on monday. really good to see so many faces there on what was a difficult place to reach on a monday morning. the service was so emotional and touching, but so fitting for our ern. spent a couple of hours with louise the night before, reminiscing and looking through pics etc, and i felt so proud to have been his friend. ernies dad, john, was so suprised to see so many former players and fans from oldham present, i think it gave the family such strength, and he really wanted all the fans at the wake afterwards but unfortunately everyone had left. spent a few hours and a downed a few shandys with ernie's close mates, mostly millwall fans. top lads and looking forward to seeing them on the opening day. really nice to see the flags present, and reading the account of the funeral on erniesflag.co.uk was really very emotional and accurate. thanks once again to everyone, the family are really looking forward to coming up for the rochdale game . cheers martin
  23. morning all ernie's funeral has been set for monday 21st july at 10,30am it will take place at St.James' Church, Jamaica Rd, Bermondsey, London (close to millwall's ground) the family have said that as many people as possible are welcome at the service which will be beamed outside on screens once the church is full. they have also requested to see as many oldham , rochdale shirts etc as possible outside the church to bring a real splash of colour. there will be speakers at the service including iain dowie, and others close to ernie and his family. i have spoken to the club and they have asked if anyone wants to attend, they will run a coach subject to numbers and costs. please register your interest with lois in the club shop and they will endeavour to put on a coach, would be great if we could see a bus load of oldham fans in attendance, even though obviously the time and day will make it difficult for many. ernie'd dad john would like to express his thanks for all the messages left on this site as he has been reading them daily. best wishes martin
  24. lovely lovely picture that one. remember when i first went to his dads house in london, his dad has loads of pics of him as a kid at colchester and with all his youth teams. remember thinking it was funny to see his full head of blond hair. his dad was so proud of him. ern was a big millwall fan too, so its really poignant that our first game is against them. he was spending a day a week at millwall coaching the kids there before he fell ill.
