  1. A first day cover is a specially designed envelope, bearing newly issued postage stamps which were postmarked on the first day that those stamps were placed on sale by the Post Office. The football covers are always associated with a special match rather than a new issue of stamps although many football covers have a number of different stamps on them as a full issue of stamps was usually used. Football covers also include a insert card giving details of the reason for the cover. Here is a list of the covers featuring Oldham Athletic (as I know of) - also as a completist I have tried to collect each cover with a different value stamp for each issue. 1974 Division 3 Champions - Oldham 1 Manchester United 0 - 3 1/2p, 4p, 4 1/2p + 1 1/2p charity stamp, 4 1/2p, 8p - 250 issued 1976/77 FA Cup Northwich Vics 1 Oldham 3 - 6 1/2p 1982 Burnley FC Centenary year - Burnley 1 Oldham 2 - 15 1/2p - 250 issued 1990 Littlewoods Cup SF - covers both legs v West Ham 6-0 & 0-3. - different scroers autographed and name printed on envelope - 19p owl stamp, 19p standard stamp - 201 issued 1990 FA Cup SF - Oldham 3 Man U 3 - 19p train, plane stamp, 19p ironbridge 1990 FA Cup SF Replay - Oldham 1 Man U 2 - 20p 1990 Littlewoods Cup Final - Oldham 0 NF 1 - 15p - Oldham postmarked 1990 Littlewoods Cup Final - Oldham 0 NF 1 - 20p - Wembley postmarked 1991 Return to Div 1 - Liverpool 2 Oldham 1 - 1st class (boot), 1st (eggs), 1st (bird), butterfly, 1st (mallard), 1st (rainbow) 1991 First home game in div 1 for 68 years - Oldham 3 Chelsea 0 - 10p owl, 22p dinosaur - 247 issued 1993 First Swindon game at home in premiership - Swindon 0 Oldham 1 - 24p gosling 1994 FA Cup SF - Oldham 1 Man Utd 1 - 1st rupert, 1st teacher, 1st tree, 1st dan dare

  3. The three versions are 1 in letter I prominent is Maurice Whittle 2 in letter C player with trophy 3 in letter C Ford Stand in background Would be interested if collectors could send me a list of what they have so I can add them to my record of existing. Also the Bolton Wanderers postponed game on 3 DEcember - there is a programme for that game Lastly the 88/89 season programmes have some games with upto three covers althouh the Oxford game that season is eartly doors and Ive only seen one with Tommy Wright on cover. Richard -- do you collect teamsheets and can you advise best place to get hold of some on Saturday?
  4. That is amost correct. There where three base covers printed at the start of the season and the match details printed on top for each game. At the start of the season a different base was used for each game but around November different covers started to be used for the same game. After the Manchester United game at Christmas all three covers where used for each game. The white ones (albino) are printer errors..
  5. Oldham Athletic Ladies can take a massive step to the league title this Sunday when they play Manchester Girls in the Second Division of the Greater Manchester Women’s Football League. With just three games of the season remaining they play leaders placed Manchester Girls at home. Oldham Athletic Ladies had a poor start to the season picking up just one point from their first three games but since the turn of October they have put together a 10 win 1 draw unbeaten run scoring 64 goals in the process. Manchester Girls lead the league with 34 points from 14 games and a +70 Goal Difference but have only two games left. Oldham Athletic Ladies have 32 points from 13 games and a +37 goal difference. Oldham Athletic Ladies just have to avoid defeat on Sunday to close in on the title. Why not come along and support the Ladies team. The game this Sunday is at Oldham Academy North on Broadway OL2 5BF. Kick off is 2pm and it is free to get in. 1 Manchester Girls 14 11 1 2 70 34 2 Oldham Athletic Ladies 13 10 2 1 37 32 3 Cadishead Rhinos 11 7 2 2 20 23 4 Moorside Rangers 10 7 1 2 9 22 5 Milnrow Wildcats Fc 11 5 1 5 2 16 6 Manchester Rovers FC 11 3 0 8 -30 9 7 Heyside Angels FC 10 2 1 7 -9 7 8 Irlam Vale 10 1 0 9 -33 3 9 Flixton Ladies 12 1 0 11 -66 3 Oldham Athletic Ladies website: www.oldhamathleticladies.com Contact email OAFCLadies@gmail.com

  7. It came to my attention last night that twitter troll Chaddy End Fred is widley believed me Gary Davies (@LaticsGary) I dont know where this has come from and I would love to know who has pointed the finger at me. I was totally unaware of even the twitter handle till 4 weeks ago. I AM NOT CHADDY END FRED. I cannot comment on what he has been saying as I dont follow him and his posts are blocked but from the searches I have done this morning a lot of people are very upset. If anyone has been abused or offended get in touch with the authoroties. I will do anything I can to show that I am not this person.

  11. Ryan Burns has changed from a winger to central midfield this season and struggled early on but has looked good and solid since christmas. Kyle Riley had a injury that really hampered development after the youth cup game at Norwich in December. Has really struggled to make any impact after coming back. Glen Belezika very raw and nervous on the ball. Makes lots of mistakes but last few games since he returned from lengthly layoff has looked a lot better. Danny Bell dont know if injured but not seen him around for a few weeks. Jack Laird diminutive forward with a very short temper. Not as bad a Andrew Crompton last season though. Excellent striker of a dead ball. Thought he would kick on after he bacame a dad in December but just hasnt happened for him. Sam Fitzgerald solid midfielder who does his job quietly. Dale Connor looked good last season but injuries and lack of reserve games this time have hampered. Some excellent keepers behind him. Alex Parkes appeared to put a lot of weight on closed season but a lot of that had turned to muscle. Guess that happens with kids. A lot of the time had two mens work to do havng to cover for Glen and he struggled until Glen was injured. For that period he was outstanding at the back. Composed on the ball and distributed well. Again not Glen is back looks nervous. A brief look at the 8 scholars. I think we gave 5 pro's last season. This year Ryan Burns and Alex Parkes would be my bet.
  12. I believe that tomorrow is the day when the second year scholars are either offered a pro-contract or told they are going to be released. Tony Philiskirk has done a fine job again bringing on a group schoolboys, learning them the ropes and watching them change along the way. I've watched 95% of their games these last two years and I have enjoyed every minute of it. Kyle Riley, Ryan Burns, Glen Belezika, Sam Fitzgerald, Danny Bell, Dale Connor, Alex Parkes and Jack Laird whatever the future holds, Thank you and good luck.
  13. Not saying we should do this but I noticed in last nights programme that Brentford full and half season ticket holders can get a free programme, drink and cadbury egg on Saturday at the game with Bury. Will have some cost but not a great deal and gets programmes into peoples hand that have stopped buying them.
