  1. Personally, i do not think his age will come into it. Initially, one or two players may take umbrage at him being young but if he shows he knows what he is doing and gets the right results then he will earn their respect. I get the feeling if they do not like him then they will have to lump it. He has already talked about professionalism etc and i think there will be huge changes in training and preperation, as there should be when a new man comes in. Sceptical about him but hopeful.
  2. Genuinely, what would you have done? People are saying we got a million quid and should have spent some of that but i doubt theres any money left tbh. Would you rather we spunk 150k a yr on Dowie to maybe get relegated anyway, watch him leave as we wouldnt be able to afford him and then start from scratch? Ive said it before, i am not convinced with appointment but im not sure what i would have done in Corneys shoes. He is a cheap option yes and we may be grateful of that if the worse happens and we get relegated. However, the flipside is he manages to revitalise a disinterested squad, keep us up and build for next season and put his stamp on team. Can he do that? Time will tell i guess. I am hoping an experienced head is brought in with him.
  3. Think that Corney was in a catch 22 with any appointment tbh. He was hardly going to offer big bucks to someone in case of relegation and some of the bigger names would have wanted more long term security than say till end of season. If Johnson is indeed appointed its a nod to the future in my eyes whilst hoping he has an impact immediately in keeping us up. If that happens then next year he can put his stamp on the team and see what happens. I'm not convinced but don' t see many other options. It would be madness to get a Dowie in on a long deal if we were to go down. I doubt anyone of similar ilk would do it short term and even if they would we would all be up in arms complaining of short sightedness and not planning properly. I know nothing about the lad but regardless he should be supported. I do think it would be interesting to see exactly who applied though. Of course, it doesn't mean we could have afforded them.
  4. Think we should take up the option of the extra year personally. Too many people saying whats he done since November, and i throw back at you what has anyone done since before then? We have been overly reliant on him and like it or not he is used to playing at a higher level and i think that explains his frustrations and at least he is honest in his summing up and knows he should have done better. I just cant help think that without his 16 goals we would be in a lot worse place and there is hardly anyone knocking the door down to take over the burden of scoring, so unless we have a player lined up who will score the equivalent amount of goals or more, then he has to stay for me.
  5. I feel a bit like i did when Smalley got released and i think that the club got that one right, though at the time i though it would bite us on the arse.
  6. Its an age old problem and that is many of the so called oldham fans who used to watch us now go and watch city or utd, there are even a few lads who i know who go and watch liverpool, im one of them. There are some lads who used to come to games from Bury, but they now have reverted to their home town team, what i get from them is that they are playing good stuff so they may as well watch them. I used to be a season ticket holder from 1988 to 1995, then after that i started going to just away games, purely for the better atmosphere, then with work i started going to just a few home games and it has now dwindled to about half a dozen games a year that i watch the team. I am not sure what would entice me back to watching latics full time when for a few quid more i can watch premier league football.
  7. Attended last night, thought it was a "fudge" job, particularly from Corney. He said all the "right" things which everyone expected to be fair and he passed the more pressing questions to Hardy, who by my impression was never an official member of the panel. I do not want to get started on what i think of Hardy, he is a man imo way out of his depth as a chief executive in 2011. I think it is appalling that day to day he is the man running our club!! Astounding. I learnt nothing new last night that i did not already know, we are in deep deep :censored: and the inconsistencies coming from the club through various media outlets and forums ala last night is really beginning to wind me up. Finally, i will be amazed if we can keep hold of Dickov, Taggart and Butler, who seem to have a good relationship amongst themselves and with the players. I fear administration is round the corner if the club is really in as much :censored: that Corney and Hardy make out.
  8. no im not and im afraid i dont read those papers. thanks for questioning my support to latics tho, awful good of you. exposed by whom may i ask?
  9. he said so at the last xmas boundary blues party when someone went to buy him a drink and it says it on his wikipedia page so i assumed it was true
  10. what that he should not be drinking or that he converted to islam, thought the latter was well known bout him.
  11. Exactly. given the high profle incidents involving Hughes and more recently Gregans own drink related problems i believe that it is ridiculous that they semed to have carte blanche on what they were drinking. However there may also be the question of trusting these two in particularly not to get lashed given their much publicised problems. Also i thught hughesy had converted to islam and he shouldnt be drinking at all if that is the case
  12. I do not understand the lazy journalism jibe on here, although that could well be the case and i hope so. However by coming out and saying as such then surely that is as bad as the journos reporting "inaccuracies" in the first place. There was a thread started the same night as these incidents saying that it had kicked off and because the thread was started by someone who had only 1 post it was ridiculed as being inaccurate. I fear the same may happen to those who just want to see this as lazy journos out to get a story. IMHO there is no smoke without fire, and i wouldnt be in the least bit surprised to see the back of Shez, Gregan and indeed Lee Hughes. I really think the club will make a stand. Again i sincerely hope it is but i hate Oldhams name to be in the news for all the wrong reasons. There is quite clearly a discipline problem at the club and there has been for sometime it seems. I dont think Shez can handle the experienced older players in his squad and i think we have witnessed that.
  13. Was a disgrace last night. A friend and i sat in chaddy end and there was pockets of leeds fans all over the frickin place. the stewards were a joke and didnt want to know , how it dint kick off i dont know. we ended up moving seats 3 times, only for every occasion to be sat near more vocal and more annoying leeds fans. found it unbelievable and it ruined my night. says in chron 8 out the 10 ejections were latics fans! thats cos the stewards turned a blind eye to all the leeds scum sat amongst us. ridiculous, and i have contacted the club over this and been promised a reply by safety officer into the stewarding.
  14. I cannot agree that gregan was one of few to come out of game with any creditability, i and around a dozen others near me thought he was a abysmal, and has been for quite a while now. of course i respect your opinion and football is mainly all about that.
  15. For first time ever i sat in the corner suite, only cost a couple of quid extra. Anyway my point is that the 10 or so of us in our section thought that gregan was awful, his distribution was woeful and his constant rollickings could be heard up where we were sat. It is laughable that he was named man of match and he was almost embarrassed when he come up to recieve his award, he knew he hadnt deserved it. Dont get me wrong, gregan wasnt the only player to give a poor performance but imho he constantly delivers underpar performances and seems to be untouchable. There were a couple of Rovers fans in the suite and Gregan was a laughing stock at half time cos of his diatribes to others when he was the one making most of the vital mistakes. Our defence looked clueless. our midfield passed sideways and our "veteran" strikers played like they were ready for the retirement home. We hardly won any 1st balls, we were slow to latch onto any 2nd balls and that was in the first half when we should have been comfortable. The second half was for me as abject as the whole Hereford whooping we got, we were absolutely dreadful in every department. Shez has some serious work to do if we are to remain in the playoffs come next monday.
