  1. Thats a great link diego and it does ring true and does pick you up when sometimes you feel like why do I bother in reality about 80% of my happiness from watching Latics comes from about 20% of my time watching us. A lot of what we see season in season out is forgetable some games just fade in to the past but their are those few stand out moments each season that do make it all worthwhile. One thing football has at football league level that you don't get in the premiership is alot more unpredictability. We can all and could all guess who would be the top 4 in the premiership this season and we would be atleast 75% right if we tried to guess the top 4 for the next premiership season. But you couldn't do that with league 1 right now for this season. Not many of us thought we would get to the play offs last season, Not many thought we would do leeds and everton on the road this year. You look at 2007 plenty of ups and downs as long as their are those ups and downs and those moments of unpredictability which keep us coming back . I can understand where you are coming from Prozac regarding football being a seemingly a win at all costs culture it has drifted a long way from being a sport now. I can sympathise with referees sometimes its a thankless task I do wonder sometimes if the next time a big game is being played and the 100k a week players are screeming in the refs faces what they would do if the ref and the linesmen just collectively walked off and left the players to sort it out themselves. I do think fifa should allow referees and linesmen this alternative if players and managers are not going to conduct themselves appropriately to just abandon the game and dock the team responsible 3 points. Then again thinking about it if huddersfield get a dodgy penalty in the last minute tomorrow I will be out of my seat screaming every obsenity at the referee and its that passion that keeps us going. Its even these discussions in the pub or on owtb that keep us going. We always seem to find a reason to come back for more in. 2002 after the ITV digital collapse people thought that alt least 30 fl clubs would go to the wall and guess what its 2008 and their are 92 proffesional league clubs and another string of full time clubs in the blue square premier. Despite the fact that for much of its 113 year history this club has been a loss making business its still here it has survived and the redevelopment of the stadium is likely to mean it survives for much longer yet. The history of OAFC has plenty more interesting chapters to be written yet good and bad we might see one tomorrow.
  2. IMO I would push macca slightly further forward playing just behind Davies, and have kalala and allot behind him playing the yard dogs and smalley and taylor on right and left repectively. Thinking being that Macca is better in the air than Allot and allots best games have come in midfield. Plus if we are going if we are going to play wingers we will want people to get on the end of crosses. Like you unfortunately I don't see wolfy cutting it for us. We need a big performance from Davies saturday as he will be expected to lead the line. Come on craig you know you have it in you be our match winner.
  3. Correct Chris Taylor is a winger one that can play right or left but a winger not a central midfielder or a striker or anything else really I don't really like seeing him at left back either if we can avoid it he plugs a hole granted when played there but its not his best position like seeing him pushed on taking on defenders thats his main attribute.
  4. I think that was Luke Beckett that we did that with. I think the situation clarke is in is similar to that of becket i.e. an out of favour striker from a championship club knows that if he is sold it will be to a league one club with league 1 wages and like anyoneelse doesn't want to be earning half or less than half of what hes earning now. So to compensate he goes out on loan where he still keeps his championship contract and is kept in the shop window as a result of playing regular football. I would imagine that if we got him it would be a loan deal hopefully until the end of the season then we can take it from there.
  5. Am I right in thinking that Trottmans contract is up in the summer it was mentioned on here recently. If so has this little rumour been started by his agent in hope of getting him a better deal if you see where I'm coming from?
  6. The official site is carrying a story saying we have already sold out the corporate hospitality section of the ground I know that it isn't the same as selling tickets in the stand but it does suggest a level of interest in this tie.
  7. We will get a bigger attendance for this one than the league game defo but not a sell out. Both teams are going into it of big wins in round 3 and both teams and fans will be thinking this is winnable so about 10k I think is not unreasonable with a split of around 6800 tics and 3200 hudders roughly.
  8. Got a sneaky suspicion it will be Stoke or Newcastle we get I don't want United at home, away I don't mind but if its at home we will get loads of oldhamers in the home end supporting united who will all jump up when they score and it has all the potential to kick off.
  9. Why would anyone have wanted to leave early to get a pint yesterday. I can understand people going early at HT and missing the goal or if we being slaughtered. But surely what is the point of going full stop if you were going to leave early yesterday. The celebrations will of yesetrday will live long in the memory for everyone who was part of them. I don't understand some people I really don't
  10. Are we Holland Are we Holland Are we Holland in disguise Are we Holland in disguise
  11. History has proved that he couldn't cut it as a manager, but to be fair to him we could have put anyone in that position and they would still have struggled the rot had firmly set in and we were going backwards quickly. History has also proved that JW Lees should have sold up when we went down from the premier league because a) They would have got a better price for their shares They had no plans to do anything with the club anyway. Imagine had someone with the vision such as TTA took over us at that point things might just might have been alittle different.
  12. Now people seem to be under the impression that its all the fans fault that we are playing so badly at home. Now I know their are quite a few who will come to Boundary Park and look for any excuse to moan and they don't all sit in the NSM upper in fact they are scattered all over the ground. I hardly slag the players off at all because at the end of the day I can't do any better if I could I would be out their doing it. Nothing is funnier than seeing an overweight p-ss head telling a proffessional athlete that he is too slow. But being a proffesional footballer does require thick skin it is part of the job description thats what seperates the men from the boys. At the moment I don't think some of our lads are mentally tough enough and this is partly because overall we have such a young team but they will have to learn to shut it out. Forget what some miserable old so and so in the stand says and just play the game. Ive been and watched Bolton a number of times down the years and I can tell you some of their fans are far worse than ours yet in that time they kept improving because Sam Alladyce created a team that had great spirit and strong character. So while I have never condoned booing of a mob sat from the safety of the stands. Its upto the players to make sure they are strong enough to shut it out and shut them up.
  13. Fair enough we will agree to disagree but until someone shows me concrete evidence that we fiddle the figures I will trust the attendances that we give out I don't think we would be able to pull the wool over the eyes of the inland revenue for as long as we have.
  14. The better we do the better the opposition more people will come thats how just how it is and has always been. Suppose we get to wembley in the play offs what do we do just say to the faithful 4-5000 or so only you lot are aloud tickets and we are playing forest who will take 40,000. We ain't in a position to turn away fans no matter if they just pick and choose a couple of games to come and go to its better than having them not come at all the atmosphere at Everton will be good don't worry about that. One more thing why do people think that its only the part timers that turn up and moan. I see plenty of people who go regularly give pretty fierce abuse to the players at various games home and away.
  15. So can you actually prove the attendance was higher than what was given on Boxing Day?
  16. Don't be such a wimp! Are you actually bothered about leeds fans mocking us for our attendances. If thats so important to you and me we would be of down the road to Old trafford. We ain't Latics is our club I'm sure those that do will get behind the boys heartily Oh and by the way I am one of the glory hunters who prefers to go to Everton rather than Leeds. Its so sad only people who watch every minute of every game plus every reserve and youth game should be allowed to go to this one. Certainly not season ticket holders who disgustingly pick and choose their away games call ourselves supporters ggggggggggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. What Prozac has said their answers the question this rumour has been circulating for years on various messageboards. Yet knowone in this thread or during that time ever comes up with hard evidence that we are fidling the figures apart from statements such as "it looked fuller than that" If this had been the case we would have done over years ago for this. WE AIN'T DOING ANYTHING ILLEGAL
  18. Disagree strongly if that had been the case we would have been given time and space on the ball we got neither granted they didn't create much but they defended well Kilkenny was coming deeper and deeper to collect the ball and thats why we had to resort to long balls. They weren't their for the taking they came for a point and dug in stuck 5 across the middle and stifled the game. Can't see why their is so much negativity on this thread we are moving forward we are now 11 unbeaten we don't need to change anything yet.
  19. I think thats what we will do at the end of this season providing that he does contribute between now and the end of the season we kept giving eyrsie 12 month contracts maybe that kept him on his toes the motivation to play for a new contract at the end of the season. I don't think a right sided player would be a priority in jan I think the left side should be the main focus. On the right we have Liddell and while he doesn't offer width and isn't a natrual winger allot does a good job on the right side of midfield. Davies spends time out their, Taylor is essentially a right sided player who canplay on the left. Behind them we have Smalley who is still developing so 5 players can do a job for us in that position yet on the left we have only Taylor and Ryan Bertrand who is our only out and out left sided player and he maybe leaving in January.
  20. I have never understood why Andy liddel has often got grief from the fans particularly those wo say he doesn't put a challenge in. He's a winger for gawd sake! The best wingers in my time supporting latics Rick Holden, David Eyres and Neil Adams were any of them famed for putting in a challenge? maybe its the same people who were of the school that Paul Warne was the equivalent of white pele because he possesed that magical skill of running around alot. The other night I went to see a match not involving Latics. Upfront for the away side was a player who never tracked back hardly ever put in a challenge all night and waited for the ball to come to him. Yet he occupied the back four on his own and was the best player on the pitch It was Dimitar Berbatov for Spurs v's City.
  21. I will go with Davies on the grounds that he is one of the most natrually talented players Ive seen where a Latics shirt. He can be a s good as he wants to be. Although it doesn't mean he is the best player yet I expect him to be long term. Still can't get my head around people who said that all Porter did was just knock in tap ins thats all strikers have to do. If football was all about moving about and looking like you gave 100% then Paul warne wouldn't be sat on the bench at yeovil and Gary Linekar wouldn't have been one of Englands greatest ever stikers.
  22. That is absolute genius! I'd like to nominate anytime Guy Branston played a forward pass in the Golden Hoofing era of 05-06.
  23. So they knew what the traffic implicacations were really its just that now he realise that the wrong decision was made he's just trying to save face? I wonder what said councilors would do if were part of a planning committee in glossop the valley is a nightmare for traffic with everything going from Manchester to Sheffield with no bypass.
  24. So how come the information was only recieved at 4pm on the day that the approval decison had to be delivered is this normal? I mean shouldn't they have had this information earlier?
