  1. I can't defend Fane for that goal, but he was trying to pass back to Placide, the ball deflected off another of our players (Bryan?), and Clarke wasn't paying attention until they picked up the ball. Yes Fane should have cleared It, but three or four players were also badly at fault for that goal. I thought apart from that balls-up, Fane was brilliant yesterday. Always chasing back, playing the simple ball and letting Byrne/Gardner have time on the ball.
  2. If anyone's interested, I've had a go at previewing the coming season: https://joeoafc.wordpress.com/2017/08/03/oldham-athletic-season-preview-201718/ As ever, feedback welcome!
  3. He's probably one of our only sellable players, but that doesn't mean we should sell. He can play a number of positions, he's got potential to improve, and a right hand side of him and Dummigan would be dangerous this season. Plus, we've got four central midfielders already so sacrificing McLaughlin for Douglas seems strange.
  4. Wilson was a solid League One player whenever he had an experienced head next to him - was it Lockwood? Whenever he was played alongside a youngster and had to take control of the defence, he was awful. If Walsall play him with someone who can organise the defence and let him concentrate on defending, he'll do well for them.
  5. I've heard Wellens has been very vocal about Fane's ability, and not in a good way. Is being coached by someone who doesn't rate you a good thing or not?
  6. I can imagine the club will be in touch with those lads sooner rather than later, and we won't be seeing it at BP anytime soon.
  7. There's Ryan Flynn to accommodate as well as Gardner/Banks/potentially Baxter.
  8. Surprised he's gone there, would have said he's capable of League Two at least. Might put some money on York to get promoted if they're signing players like Law.
  9. I really hope Obadeyi signs now, I reckon him, Holloway and Davies could be really dangerous. I'd still want another striker though, because Holloway and Davies won't last the full season without getting injured. Promising signing.
  10. As well as Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ricky Lambert and Adam Lallana were unplayable that day. But having the chance to see Gerrard and Suarez at Boundary Park was amazing for someone like me who's only ever seen Latics in League One. Surely there can't have been two better players at Boundary Park in the last twenty years?
  11. As well as my Post Match Verdict reports, I've had a go at reviewing the 2016/17 season. Have a look here: https://joeoafc.wordpress.com/2017/05/03/oldham-athletic-201617-post-match-verdict-season-review/
  12. Valid point, and for most people on here who live in Oldham it'll be McMahon and Abrahams who will retain their seats. At the last election, I had the choice of voting in Oldham or in Sheffield where I was a student and I had a chance to vote against Nick Clegg - the man who promised that I wouldn't pay £9000/year for uni. So I voted against Clegg (who won but with a slashed majority), where I felt my vote had more of an impact. The system probably needs changing, but that's another argument for another day. But... if people in safe constituencies like Oldham all vote for Labour because there's no potential for swing, then there never will be a change. Surely there's always a chance if the candidate is good enough? I'd rather my vote went to who I believed in rather than who is already in the seat. My main hope for this election is a high turnout. People have a lot to say about Brexit/Tories/Corbyn, so do something about it. If you can vote, register, do your research, and vote on June 8th. I'd never tell anyone who to vote for, but I'll always tell people to get out and vote. In such an uncertain, turbulent time where we're leaving the EU, it's so important to have your say.
  13. If Taylor hadn't played here before, he'd have been treated the same way Erwin was earlier in the season. He's had a handful of good touches since he's come back, but he's not been a threat in any game I've seen him. From this loan spell, I wouldn't keep him - he's probably on more than we can afford for a passenger.
  14. My mistake, I'll change it! I did check before I posted it, but my information must have been wrong!
  15. Here is the Post-Match Verdict from the draw against Rochdale, plus a quick look at where the squad needs improving for next season now safety is secured. https://joeoafc.wordpress.com/2017/04/22/oldham-1-1-rochdale-post-match-verdict/
  16. Here is the Post Match Verdict from yesterday's win over Bolton: https://joeoafc.wordpress.com/2017/04/14/oldham-1-0-bolton-post-match-verdict/?preview_id=5443&preview_nonce=4b72f14569 No opposition fan this week, but instead I included the views of my girlfriend after I took her along to her first football game. To be fair to her, she was fairly spot on with most of her comments. I've also looked at the run-ins of the teams down at the bottom... just in case.
  17. If we do go down this season, we'll boss League Two with Gerrard and Clarke at the back.
  18. The post match verdict from yesterday's draw with Sheffield United is up now: https://joeoafc.wordpress.com/2017/03/26/oldham-1-1-sheffield-united-post-match-verdict/
  19. There's an article in the Telegraph today about Jason Jarrett. He's been training to be a referee for four years but is quitting because he can't officiate in games involving any of his former clubs - he has 14 of them. I can see why that rule is in place but it seems quite counter-productive when ex-pros should be encouraged to get into refereeing. Say what you like about Jarrett as a player, but surely his experience would help as a ref.
  20. 3/1 for Latics to go down seems quite high, it's also 7/2 on betfair. Shrewsbury and Bury will probably have just enough to stay up, and I'm expecting Port Vale to at least draw level with us after their games in hand, and our run-in is a bit tougher than theirs. I'm tempted to put a couple of quid on that price and at least make some money if we go down...
  21. The Post Match Verdict from yesterday's game can be found here: https://joeoafc.wordpress.com/2017/03/12/oldham-0-0-bury-post-match-verdict/ Hopefully it's not too similar to the other six 0-0 draws we've had at home this season...
  22. NI manager said Lafferty would have been called up but wants him to have game time at his club.
  23. This. If all the effort of moaning was put into packing out the Chaddy in response, it could be a great atmosphere for both games where we may well need to get results in a tough run in. The club should market the games as a chance for lapsed/moved supporters to move back to the Chaddy one last time. There's the play at the Coliseum about the glory years, Sheridan's leading another great escape, and we had 7,000 home fans the other week. Marketed right, two big derbies at home are a great chance to build on all that and respond to giving away the RRE with a 2 for £20 deal (or similar). If the Chaddy is as good as everyone is saying, we could even sneak a couple of positive results on our way to staying up. In fact, I'm going to email the club with that suggestion now. No point criticising the negative response and not doing anything about it.
  24. It's a bit late, but here's the Post-Match Verdict from yesterday's draw. I've also had a look at whether it'll be Peter Clarke or Connor Ripley who is leading the way for Player of the Season. https://joeoafc.wordpress.com/2017/02/26/oldham-0-0-millwall-post-match-verdict/
