  1. I remember Marshy's header at Portman Road - if there hadn't been netting it would have hit me right in the mush. What a fantastic day, at the end of two unbelievable seasons. One of the few advantages of being the age I am is having been present during those momentous games. We were always going to struggle to stay in the top flight, but if you'd have told me then how low we'd sink (in more ways than just league status), I wouldn't have believed you.
  2. Yes, I went to the Wikipedia page to see if it mentioned it . I had it in my head he'd become a copper after retiring.. Thanks PeteG - nice to know someone else remembers it!
  3. I'm struggling to find my Complete Record book, but have strong memories of Mike Cecere coming on as a substitute -vs- Blackburn Rovers in May '87 with the score at 0-0. In that memory he astonished us all to score a hat-trick as we went on to win 3-0. The less said about the play-off games -vs- Leeds that followed the better...I remember those games all too well. Is the memory a reality? or a dream? Or just the wrong match.... I'll leave it to my fellow Blues to judge...
  4. The Southampton game that secured our survival that season was unbelievable. 4-1 and cruising, a goal scored direct from a corner and the Le Tissier finished off his hat-trick. After that he put in a perfect cross for Iain Dowie who headed over when it looked easier to score. We refused to defend properly and the final whistle was probably the best I've ever felt watching Latics. Fantastic stuff - a privilege to be at BP that day. We were always going to finish last in the BBC poll - too long ago, and too Latics !
