I remember as a kid, when Latics were in League Division 4, asking my dad if Latics would ever get into League Division 1! His look said it all and the possibility seemed as unlikely as playing on the moon. You never know!
I'm sure we'll battle to the end but two things concern me - our injury situation and Cassidy. But this is the hand we've been dealt. Like many have already said, the Fleetwood is a must not lose game!
Our strikers are incapable of hitting the net - our good run has come from goals from midfield. If we had a goalscorer in our team then I'd be optimistic but we haven't.
Losing is one thing - shipping three goals without reply is another. Goal difference is important where we are. Still don't think any of our strikers will score five goals before the end of the season. Teams around us are banging them in. Expecting relegation.
The goals are going to have to come from midfield. Compare our strikers with those that play from the teams around us - and with Coleman having a wobble - something must change!
Unfortunately, as promising as Coleman is - and he is - this the third match on the run that he his mistakes have gifted the opposition a goal. This is costing us points - as is the inability of our strikers to hit the target.
Main is probably short of match fitness - if he'd headed the ball into the far corner instead of straight ahead he would have scored. Hopefully it is rustiness and not incompetence. As for Murphy, he seems to have gone backwards after regaining his confidence. Poor Shez - he's been given a difficult job with little money!
When we beat Fleetwood at the beginning of the season that was when I feared that we'd get relegated. We could have been three down in the first ten minutes.
Well we've stopped conceding and started to create chances. Time will tell whether Shez has been given enough money to sign strikers who will take them. I have my own thoughts on this!
Ian Robins started playing on the left wing and finished up playing centre forward. Played at the same time as a Alan Young. Not bad in the air he could volley as good as anyone - very powerful shot! Intelligent player.
If we were a club pulling in the same direction I would agree - but we're not! We have an owner and absent owners who own the ground and surrounding land. Income is diverted to their North Stand project instead of being spent on the team. What SC's vision for the future is God only knows! He wants to sell and until then what is his plan - to run us into the ground and then sell off the land to the highest bidder? Keep us ticking over until a buyer can be found who will pay over the odds for the club plus ground? So maybe in a ideal world where we are owned by someone who has the club at heart then yes your idea would be worth considering!
