  1. He said in asn interview that he drove down a lane in a sports car where he came upon a chaingang (group of cyclists). Increased his speed and drove past them closely causing them to fall into the hedges at the side of the road. He thought it was hilarious, and laughed hysterically as he saw them in his rear-view mirror. He later apologised after the reaction that he got.
  2. To be honest, I read the piece by Ollie Holt, and it was a Littlejohn type rant about nothing. We used to sing the build a bonfire song at junior school, and replaced the Ferdinand's with teachers and prefects. Should it have been about two white brothers, nothing would have been said. I believe that if it was sung there was no racial intent, but the sad thing is that some people look for racism in the most innoccuous of things. I suppose the Great Escape being played by the England band would be considered racist by some, or perhaps xenophobic. Much ado about nothing.
  3. These are the plans for Home Park announced earlier today. http://www.thisisplymouth.co.uk/Plymouth-Argyle-stadium-set-heart-sporting/story-18433392-detail/story.html#axzz2Ni70vMEI
  4. Going back to the gym, I do know that the one where I go to at the China Fleet Country Club here in Saltash was used by Plymouth Argyle players (the physio was a regular there with injured players), and is also currently used by Plymouth Albion rugby union players. It's a nightmare trying to get into the weights area when they're in. The agreement was part of a sponsorship package, where they were supposed to come in and give occasional training days for youngsters. They never did, though. Whether it's the same for Latics' players or not I don't know, but that's what happened there.
  5. Could it be TTX they're based in Oldham Walshy aka Don't Worry Be Happy works for them if you want to ask him about it.
  6. Peter Shilton was a manager. Then there's David Icke. No manager, just a fruitcake. As for Tony Philliskirk, his heart is really with the youths from what he's said.
  7. No outrage from me, just sadness at the way things have been handled and perceived. In a way, I'm an outsider looking in as I don't live in the area, and haven't been back for almost 3 years and don't intend doing so for a good while. It's just how I see the situation from afar. From Shirtgate back to Buttygate. As for the shirt, you're spot-on regarding it's current owner.
  8. Very true, but despite Latics fans knowing this, as I've said, it's how others perceive us. A couple of mates (one's a Spurs fan who goes to home games regularly from here in Cornwall, the other an Argyle season ticket holder) have remarked on the games, and how they enjoyed the spirit shown and atmosphere. They also mentioned how the money made would be welcome It was nice to hear. Then they both laughed at the bloody shirt notice on the dressing room door, and the published threat to fine Smith over his shirt. Away from Oldham and Latics, that's what I've experienced.
  9. I suppose it shouldn't (and doesn't) matter how the club's seen by others; little Oldham Athletic are skint, That's life. Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree, but perhaps the publicity could have been used as an opportunity to show just how the club are coping and trying to move forward despite the lack of cash, and not make themselves look like Steptoe's yard. We used to be in the Premiership, don't you know?
  10. Skint I appreciate, but the way that they're doing it (to others watching television and reading in the papers) looks cheap and amateurish with the money that's been made from the cup run. I appreciate that the club's got to be run on a shoestring budget, but as far as PR goes, it's a failure. Perhaps none of this would have come out without the cup run, but even though the club are skint, the way it's being reported is the way that the club will be seen by others.
  11. If they're that hard-up, I'll personally buy a box of mars bars or double deckers, and have them delivered so they can then distribute them without making the whole club look cheap and amateurish. With the recent cup run, the club has gained excellent publicity, but what's been the outcome? Humiliation on television regarding the lack of pie supply that was printed in the programme. A notice stuck on the dressing room door regarding the lack of shirts and again nationally broadcast, and printed in the papers. Then the goalscoring saviour being threatened with a fine. Now this. A double decker spree. I appreciate that costs must be kept to a minumum, but it doesn't do the club any good whatsoever.
  12. There is something about this club that just creeps into your heart. Just ask Joe Royle and Paul Dickov. And me. Another round on the roller coaster to come. Bring it on.
  13. I've got into the habit of going for a 3-3.5 hour ride over Dartmoor or by the sea (just got back) and clearing my head before the torture of the game. Pour a whisky, log onto chat and watch things unfold. Trouble is, it's become a thing of dread rather than something to look forward to.
  14. I saw an interesting statistic yesterday, every one if ManUre's FA Cup games since they played Exeter in 2005 has been televised. So I would expect that the lazy planners will show this one as well. But I'm probably just a jealous ABU, as they always claim.
  15. It might have been when the Lees lot owned the club. From memory he was banned from travelling on the coach, dunno about the ground. Unlike when McCauley was in charge at Argyle and he banned the local reporter from the ground, and they then hired a large cherry picker to look over the ground and report on the game. And an excellent piece by Matt.
  16. Thanks. Looks like the club's tied itself into a knot, then.
  17. Can someone explain the workings of a one-year rolling contract to me? It's stated that Dickov's contract is renewed every January, but I thought that for that to be done, both parties have to be in agreement for its renewal. Therefore, in theory if Corney doesn't agree to the renewal, is the contract therefore null and void, and is a year's salary not liable to be paid? Or does Dickov also have to agree that it won't be renewed so compensation won't have to be paid? I'm confused.
  18. If it's anything like it is here in Cornwall, it will be a miracle if it's played. The weather front's heading right across the south west in the direction of Yeovil. And Worst Late Western trains have advised people not to travel any further than Taunton. Loads of local flooding, and there seems to be no end to the rain. help! We're trapped!
  19. I honestly don't know the plans for any satellite unit in that area, but the trend these days is for the NHS to go into partnership with companies such as Fresenius, Baxters, Gambro or Braun where they build, supply and run the unit including staff, or there's also design and build on behalf of the NHS where the NHS run the unit as they've done over the bridge in Plymouth with Yorkon. http://www.yorkon.co.uk/haemodialysis-unit.html A renal unit (main or satellite) can be built anywhere there's a water supply, and the new unit in Plymouth is on an industrial estate away from the hospital, as are the ones in Newton Abbott and Honiton. As for £700,000 a year rent solely for a renal unit, I doubt even the most incompetent NHS manager could get away with that expenditure.
  20. Glad you liked the Willy Voet one, that was an eye opener. My partner, Sue who's a renal nurse and is in charge of the patients' EPO read that one, and was incredulous at what they were involved in. I've also got the new Tyler Hamilton one and the Lance To Landis one by Armstrong's nemesis, David Walsh that made all of the original allegations against Armstrong. I'll PM you with my address, hopefully it'll get through. Thanks.
  21. Hello Pukka. I didn't get anything, I presume it's about the books.
  22. How's about an amalgamation of the two names. Oldchester Athletic, Oldster Athletic or Manham Athletic. That'll sort it.
  23. The old town is losing enough of its identity by being swallowed by the Greater Manchester name, so no. Never. Stotty's suggestion of Manchester North End was bad enough, but circumstances for Leyton Orient are completely different.
  24. If anyone wants to have a good read and summary of the Tour, this month's Procycling magazine is excellent. It's always good, but this issue is excellent. Well worth a fiver.
