  1. I've read several of your posts, some left me quite moved (not saying if that's in a good way or a bad way!). You've obviously got a lot to say for yourself and you claim to have the club at heart... so why not join the Supporters Trust? Barry Owen's chairmanship must be due for re-election soon, so in theory a place on the club's board is up for grabs!! Just imagine... then again, don't?
  2. Maybe TTA thought "brilliant, develop the land and make a massive profit quickly" and now they're thinking "christ on a bike, get something sorted, make a small profit and bail out"
  3. Who gives a flying **** if it borders Moston, Failsworth, Huddersfield, Rochdale or Ashton - it's still fairly easy to get to and it's the most viable option. At least the club gets to grow. Where has the "us" come from - is that an offer to help them find the investment? (I say this cynically but...) At the end of the day we're football fans... and in todays age that just means we're just really passionate customers of a brand. Don't hold the "business" back with negativity - as this isn't the end of the world - look at what happened with MK Dons that was an extreme move... five miles down the road is negligible.
  4. Don't disagree at all arnoid - but I just wonder how much interference with the first team there has been. Windass - that was very strange wasn't it - doesn't seem like Sheridan ever wanted him at the club. If that's the case - did he deserve the sack?
  5. Sacking Sheridan hasn't rescued our play-off chances. Should they have waited until the summer, got rid of Hughes, Gregan, Liddell and Crossley (for starters), let SHERIDAN choose 4 players to replace them around the twenty-seven to thirty age and then given him until Christmas. Maybe get somebody like Joe Royle in above him to help and guide him. Somebody texted GMR tonight and said "we need a young manger" - we had one... that didn't work, so we went for an old one and that hasn't worked. Sacking managers rarely solves a problem in situations like this. (I can hear the criticism now). They shouldn't have sacked Ronnie Moore, and they shouldn't have sacked Sheridan.
  6. Nothing personally taken Ackey. However, it does get us something that "money can't buy" and that's a direct hand in the day to day running on the football club and an ear very much to the ground. I do have reservations as to the relationship with the club and Trust from a practical perspective - and I did when I was a Trust director... but these are things that can (and should) be fixed for the good of both parties. Should the Trust dispose of this 3% shareholding and make a dramatic loss in the process, it must be at the expense of clauses being put in place that they get first refusal on any stakes that are sold on the club in the future (at the same price) and that the new ownership consortium supports the Trust in organising a Fans Parliament (like they have at Wolves). You've also got to ask why they don't want the trust involved... after all, they are only there to help, not hinder - and I don't think that our present owners can claim that Trust Oldham has ever held the club back in any way... Barry has proven to be an invaluable asset to them.
  7. I think it would be extremely short sighted of the Trust to let that shareholding go without a) getting their money back and setting up an alternative scheme to get fans representation. It would be interesting to see what exactly this investor wants a slice of - the football club (Oldham Athletic Football Club 2004 Limited) of which Trust Oldham own their share, or Brassbank Limited which (I think) owns the land around the ground... when I was involved in the Trust I asked for clarification on this numerous times, but it was never forthcoming - as was information on how much each of our owners actually owns. Buying 50% of Oldham Athletic would presumably buy you 50% of a football club... with no tangible assets other than playing staff - and who in all honesty sees that as an investment?
  8. Hey Prozac - don't get too down - things can't be that bad - one thing I haven't been able to understand is why folk are on the managers back this season, we're doing alright (just) and we might just be that bit better off with some more vocal support other than singing get sheridan out... bet people weren't singing that at one nil up! quark as for my disillusionment - i've said what was needed to the people i needed to say it too, and i don't want to start harping on in great detail on here about it as it's boring... and it's been a while since i've had a telling off for expressing my opinion and i don't want another Maybe if a thread was started up on how and what trust oldham could and should be doing, i'd love to contribute some thoughts right. far too late. bed time.
  9. Well yes Dave SAFE / Trust Oldham gave insights into football you don't normally get, and though at times very interesting, it's not necessarily a good thing - and it's without doubt that my involvement with the Trust provided the death knell for the levels of support and commitment that I had for the club.
  10. From a fans point of view it is, and for the other 'stakeholders' in the football club (that you've mentioned above) it's a case of picking and choosing when that applies!
  11. I reached a very similar conclusion last year Dave - I've not been to Latics this season at all and when I've had the chance of a free ticket, I turned it down! Still read (rarely post) all the threads on here, keep a check on the news for Latics... but just don't have that "bug" for it anymore... partly down to my trust-related involvement with the club, and partly down to a general two-fingers up to football... the majority of players (and the people involved in football) are just over-paid egotistical gob:censored:es... and I've just had enough of it even though I've known that all along... as we all do I'm sure. ha ha Oh get Darren McInAHuff here... i'll take my cynacism and pessimism elsewhere! lol
  12. Hang on - Swans? Where in Oldham is there 20-odd swans? And secondly, can a Swan really fly with a football player saddled on its back?
  13. Beckfordsrightfoot - can we have a poll to see who we would like to throw the proverbial rotten apples at? I've got a few suggestions.
  14. It's always been like that... since the days of JK Latics - would anybody want it any other way?
  15. I remember when I used to do the official site way back when and Kitbag started to serve adverts for a new United kit - went down as well as a night at the dogs... these things happen though!
  16. I noticed on another thread that the conversation had turned towards lost season tickets, so I thought I would start a quick thread on the issue. The trouble with the current system is that if a ticket is lost, there is no way to block it at the ground - so if a second was issued, both could be used to enter the ground... and there's no feasible way the club have of stopping this. I know that Barry has visited a couple of grounds in the past to look at ticketing systems at other grounds, and obviously with a smart card entry system the club would be able to block entry for certain cards - and I am sure that as the ground is developed, this is something that will be looked at closely. Best regards Darren
  17. I sort of agree with you dfOAFC - smaller clubs like Oldham have no other option than to sell their better players to make ends meet - but it will always be disappointing for the fans and the owners too to see these players move on. However, what does annoy me a bit is when the owners start stamping their feet intimating that the fans aren't good enough because we're not putting enough money into the pot. When Boundary Park is redeveloped and the housing development is completed, will they look at their profit account on Brassbank Ltd and say "the fans helped us make this money, we'll return the favour by giving them a cut of the deal... after all we did say we were all in it together". Ha now call me a cynic but I can't see that happening ;)
  18. Maybe they couldn't afford to go because they had to buy yet another set of shirts!!
  19. Not as if there's a set date to build a new stand yet anyway hometown may as well take their time!
  20. I don't think it is the clubs place to get political on it - at the end of the day if their sponsorship contract has been obliged then they would be a bit daft to go back on that as it would open up a bit of a can of worms. Besides, in the next week expect to see the banks take control over two of the countries biggest housing developers - then you've got Permisson not developing any new projects... the club still need somebody to build these houses and apartments and like it or not I think Hillstone are probably going to be the only people available and interested in doing it!
  21. Barry has given it a bit of a respray since that was taken ;)
  22. If you aren't aware, Trust Oldham has donated funds to Oldham Athletic to purchase a new Tractor for use by the groundstaff. http://www.keep-the-faith.co.uk/news/trust...tractor-to-club As ever, I'd love to know what your thoughts are about this - so please take the time to have your say. There's no point doing things like this if the Trust don't get any feedback. And as usual - constructive feedback please and not ranting lol Best regards Darren
  23. It is time once again for Trust members to cast their vote for the Trust Oldham Player of the season. For more information, please see The Trust Oldham Website.
  24. I didn't think Shez should have been given the job - it was the insular, easy way forwards and that is something Oldham Athletic have always been a little bit guilty of. However, I don't think that it is appropriate to start calling for his head - he's not actually doing that much wrong... we're just not having a great season and in this league the very same team might be 6 points clear of 2nd place in 12 months time. I am sure that JS has the resource to change things the way he would like to - we started the season with a team patched up with loan signings, and most of those have now moved on... and it looks as though the resources he has won't get the right players in. Don't be surprised to see a couple of our better players go in the summer to support re-building of the squad.
