  1. O’Grady 7 goals in last 117 appearances. That’s nowhere near good enough for a striker - better ones must be free agents surely. I’ve never seen the point of non-scoring strikers no matter how well they lead the line or hold the ball up.
  2. Same age as Jamie Vardy joined Fleetwood from Halifax - just saying. However, I think there must be some young British based players available with better pedigrees.
  3. Should have another option - better choice than recent appointments. At least he has many years in the game after finishing as a player and at a reasonable level of club; that alone makes him more likely to succeed than recent appointments (excluding Sheridan) who had barely started coaching before getting the gig.
  4. Or - Lens, Le Havre, Brest and Sochaux !! Friendlies & recruitment in one go. ??
  5. Gone by the end of tomorrow I reckon. Not sure the too good to go down squad was as good as we thought, even with the Championship quality loanees
  6. Need wide midfield players who can cover back and attack, not forwards only interested when the ball has been won back. The team Wellens keeps picking is too open when they don’t have the ball and his answer seems to be to become more open. At the moment he seems too naive although the recruitment policy seems pretty suspect - a shed load of attacking players and hardly any defensive options (yes I know there are injuries but every team has them). oh hum - onwards and downwards!
  7. Turned Ifollow off - can’t listen to this sh1te any longer. Leak goals every time anybody attacks. Back to the bottom league - full circle in my lifetime, thank goodness for the Royle years.
  8. I follow just gone off again? Anyone else having a problem?
  9. A bit pessimistic now - you can't let in nearly 2 goals a game and have any hope of staying up. I know that the fixtures give us a chance but as we saw against Bury almost everybody scores against us, For all the talk of too good to go down, there really isn't any proof of that. We may arguably have a some better players now but not sure it's a better team, especially as there isn't a formation that seems to suit the better players in the squad.
  10. Not knocking the signing, but surely another player at the back was more important than a 6th striker. I can’t understand how they can even work out the better combinations of forwards during training sessions - any 2 from 6 gives 30 combinations if my maths serves me well.
  11. Not only do we let goals in on too regular a basis, it feels like the opposition don’t have a great number of opportunities but when they do we let in a high proportion. The second half tonight was a good example Shrewsbury didn’t have that many chances in and around the box but scored with one of the few.
  12. The 40 goals for is decent, it is the 53 against that is killing us. Shrewsbury for example - scored less but only 20 goals against, and similar for most top half teams.
  13. Having a nice footballing side is ok, but you need strong defensive players when the opposition are on top to get results. Reading a psychology book which talks about confirmation bias ie managers form an opinion about players and keep that opinion even when the evidence goes against it. Also many coaches like players who remind them of themselves as players. Good managers try to avoid those mental traits. So RW needs to consider whether he needs to go against his instincts in order to get better results and save the team from relegation. Tough CB and LB needed and a striker rather than 2 strikers.
  14. I don’t understand the logic behind some of the posts on here. Davies has scored more goals this season than Holloway has scored in his entire career, yet somehow Holloway is preferred because he holds the ball up better. There’s only one way to beat teams - score goals. Davies on course for a 20+ goal season, Holloway on course for a 2 goal season. I know who will earn more points for the team.
  15. The performances generally seem ok, but with neither the strikers nor midfielders having much of a goal scoring record it’s going to be a long cold winter. Unless those coming in know where the net is! I’ve concluded that Holloway will never score more than 7 a season - it’s not in his DNA.
  16. The only good news is the bottom 4 are losing. This has all the hallmarks of early season - no finishing and leaky at the back.
  17. Blackpool match cutting out even before kick off!!
  18. Good point, obviously it 's not only Oldham fans who struggle with players' names!
  19. Heard from a Wolves fan, Andy Lonergan being linked with a move to OAFC. Experienced keeper, unlikely to be a No 2.
  20. Extend McLaughlin's contract, could become an absolute gem; either as a player for the longer term or a saleable asset. Young enough to get value added.
  21. Hunt a right back, been on the bench all season but Brighton have brought in a loan right back from Chelsea, so not a lot of experience. Covers Dummigan injury ?
