  1. we could/should aim to get 3 more goals to achieve a zero goal difference
  2. I was at the game and stood at the front about 10 yards from the goal line. there was no way the linesman should have signalled a goal after the shot hit the bar as he was 10 yards further up the pitch than me and could not possibly see the line.
  3. Folk may be interested in the following exchange over the last week after the shambles last saturday me to EFL "you must be aware of the many problems with Ifollow …….Can you please either ensure a decent service or find another provider/agent." EFL to me if you are experiencing any technical difficulties, you will need to contact NeuLion, our partners who operate the iFollow system on behalf of the EFL. 4. is anyone else just listening? the sound is breaking up
  5. full and total respect for all you have given over the years. wish you all the best
  6. sad news but it reminds me again of the song we used to sing to the tune of blaze away we are supporters of the Latics Jack Rowley is our king with ALAN WILLIAMS in the centre and peter phoenix as the wizard of the wing ken branagan is our full back bobby johnstone's at inside right and lister is the crasher for the boys in blue and whiite good old days
  7. my first latics game was against Hull in 3rd division north. I have followed the club through thick and thin (seeing them when possible - I now live in Brighton) but cannot see how this signing can be anything but disastrous. Apart from the public furore - and my wife is incandescent about it, refusing now to buy my annual birthday present of a subscription to Latics Player - he's miles off being match fit so, even if he delivers, it won't be very soon -there is huge potential for dressing room upset (at least some players will be uncomfortable and others are likely to have there wives on their back) - where does this leave the authority of the manager? football has recently been riddled with too heavy owner interference -never to good effect - what will be the effect on the players when the team is consistently booed. - are our fans at away game liable to be abused? - this must reduce our chances of attracting new players - let alone fans - how does Tony Philliskirk feel being in charge of the academy (where he has done such a good job on developing people as well as players)? - this cannot help further sponsorship leaving aside the rights and wrongs of the case against Evans THE RISKS ARE JUST TOO GREAT!!!! sent to the club as royle army suggested
  8. sometime towards the very end of the 57/58 (last Div 3 north) season midweek against Hull at home. It was to prove a prophetic Latics experience. Pre floodlights, kickoff was at 5.30 to give time for those ending their factory shift at 5.00. Stood in the Rochdale road end and can't remember the exact timings but the score was 1-1 late in the game when the ref awarded a highly contentious penalty to Hull at our end. All the players and officials were arguing, with the ball on the spot when a frustrated spectator in a mack, wearing a flat cap and carrying his 'snap tin' climbed quietly over the wall, went onto the pitch and booted the ball up to the halfway line. Needless to say (no arrest) and Hull scored. That point would have put us in Div 3 rather than 4.
  9. thanks guy's - very slow. first time I've had that effect -surreal .
  10. how come both sky and the stats page on latics world showed Tounkare's goal before the " live" commentators reported it?
  11. after viewing Penney's masterful post match comments yesterday (about needing to score) I would like to ask him how he explains the fact that Taylor, Smalley and Whittaker (whatever anyone might think of them) scored 23 last season and 4 this.
  12. we only need to score 11 more goals to equal our lowest ever total (but that was over 42 games)
  13. don't get too excited - this season and last our loan strikers (Byfield, Kabba, Omerod, Windass, Blackman) have scored 3 in 43 appearances.
  14. living in Brighton I don't get the live pleasure (not) very often - this was a far worse performance than Orient I blame Joe for starting Hazell at full back - he's a disaster (as at Orient) and went missing for their first two goals before creating their 3rd (which killed us off) I don't blame Joe for giving Wolfenden a run - or for bringing him off - no pace, no height, no control and (worst) no fight. One definately to go. Alessandra's goal (strength, pace, control and desire) was in stark contrast. Lee showed touches of high class but isn't fit (one for the future) Eardley - sloppy and careless Gregan, Whitaker, Taylor, and Jones wanted it Allott and Smalley - not their best days I've seen the last 3 games at brighton - all at the end of season - a definite downward spiral which means I feel I'll be sweating on the wrong end of the table next year.
  15. we are now about 40% through the season which has seen good and bad and prompted a lot of negative comments on players, tactics and Shez. But consider this - 40% is a reasonable proportion on the basis of which to consider overall performance - we have 34 points. an equivalent return over the rest of the season (including more good and bad) would yield 86/87 points. we have been in this division for 12 seasons, in only 3 of those would that total not have resulted in automatic promotion - we have scored 34 goals. again continuing in this vein would give 86/87 with our previous best being 77. so KTF and get behind the team.

is anyone else having trouble getting access to the official site and finding this site very sluggish? I can get at the chronicle and the oafc message board without any diffculties. Living on the south coast I need the life blood of regular access.
  17. some of you need a reality check. we have not had a full squad all season and what club at our level could be expected to cope with (now) SEVEN experienced first team squad players out. yes, there have been mistakes and yes, some things haven't worked out (eg Ricketts), and yes some players would rather go elsewhere (Kilkenny, Moore) but changing the manager wouldn't have altered any of that. there is no point in carping on about life and blaming the obvious fall guy. if you want an example of what not to do look to newcastle and sheffield united.
  18. the song of the time says it all we are supporters of the latics jack rowley is our king with alun williams in the centre and peter phoenix as the wizard on the wing ken branagan is our full back bobby johnstone's at inside right and lister is the crasher for the boys in blue and white
  19. as an oldham exile I,ve sent the following (to give a slightly different slant) To: steven.bashforth@oldham.gov.uk; roger.hindle@oldham.gov.uk; javid.iqbal@oldham.gov.uk; tony.larkin@oldham.gov.uk; keith.pendlebury@oldham.gov.uk; philip.rogers@oldham.gov.uk; christine.wheeler@oldham.gov.uk; david.r.jones@oldham.gov.uk; andrew.kilburn@oldham.gov.uk; alan.hardy@oldhamathletic.co.uk; woolasp@parliament.uk; meacherm@parliament.uk; hodgem@parliament.uk; purnellj@parliament.uk; sutcliffeg@parliament.uk; planning@oldham.gov.uk; I urge support of the proposed development on the grounds of the need to demonstrate that Oldham is a town which is proud of its heritage and in order to send a message to the townsfolk and, particularly, to potential investors that there is an ambition to become something other than a sink estate on the outskirts of Manchester.
  20. brilliant. any chance of trying to get sky to show it on one or more of their football shows?
  21. I have sent the following to cllr. bashforth copied to alan hardy ans simon corney as an expat I am proud of my antecedents. my oldham roots go back over 150 years and my grandfather helped build and develop the town into the vibrant (if rather poor) community in which I grew up. over the years I have watched (from a distance) the decline of the town, supported all too depressingly by visual evidence on my too infrequent visits. I see regeneration elsewhere but simply decline in Oldham (and not too long ago serious rioting on the street where I used to live). Against this background you cite, in a response to another e-mail, the need for regeneration but, in turning down the proposals for the development of Boundary Park, the need to consider the impact on the greater community. Would you do the courtesy of explaining what overriding negative impact this development would have and how you would expect to attract inward investment in the light of the planning committee's decision.
  22. sad sad news. the latics song when I was a kid went we are supporters of the latics jack rowley is our king with alun williams in the centre and peter phoenix as the wizard on the wing ken branagan is our full back bobby johnstone's at inside right and lister is the crasher for the boys in blue and white good days and fond memories
