More Injury Woe

Doesn't sound promising, I don't think we'll see him play again for Latics.

If Crossley gets injured we're stuffed. Has Beresford recovered from his injury yet? Could we get him back?

It's a sad thought because he's been a great servant too us over the last few years - apart from his stint on the darkside. But I imagine we have probably seen the last of the 'big Aussie' as I fully anticipate he'll return to Aus when his contract runs out as he was going to do two seasons ago when Shez brought him back from the Lashers.

I agree. Time to get Beresford back? Is he fit?

From what I heard, Beresford is on a fortune at Luton who were a Championship side not so long back. If that's true, then I can't see us paying a lot for someone to come in as understudy to Crossley and IMO, he deserves to be No. 1 at present.

Could be a different kettle of fish if we were considering Beresford on a long term deal though. I was impressed when he joined us last year

I don't know but that is irrelevant if he comes here on loan as we would have to pay him as per his contract at Luton.

There is a possibility that he could become a free agent but at the moment, Luton can't afford to pay up his Contract and I'm sure that if he hasn't been paid, then he'll want to stick around and wait for his money which will only hpapen when the take-over goes through.

How old is Beresford though ? I presume he is well into the back end of his career and when this time comes you do have to start lowering your wage demands. Maybe he would be tempted to come if he was offered a 2 year deal and he could negotiate a settlement with Luton ?

shame for pogs.but like has been said i think that will be it as far as the club are concerned.

beresford....yes i would like to see him back.depends on if he is playing regular at luton or not,he may want first team football, but would shez drop crossley.....cant see that unless he dropped some real clangers.

think we will have an emergency loan though now...not really got cover have we.

He is knocking on a bit and I know that concerned me and others when he joined and well done to him for proving us wrong. He would certainly have to cut his cloth if he dropped from The Championship on a new deal.

It would not surprise me at all if Shez has him on his list to approach when his Luton contract ends (assuming that is in the Summer) or they can afford to pay it up sooner.

Beresford coming back for a second spell? We tried that one before. I’m pretty disappointed that we’ve not managed to produce a young keeper of our own who the management feel able to trust as cover, despite several apparently promising candidates. Especially having Crossley as a specialist coach (sadly not for the strikers, Midsblue  ) you would have hoped that we would be taking advantage and getting some youngsters coming through. As it is, I expect us to rely on Crossley’s fitness and get yet more Premiership 4th choice reserves in if he gets crocked. I can’t see us paying out big money for someone like Beresford if he isn’t going to play. It’s a shame for Pogs if it’s ending for him like this, unless he is staying here to do his rehab with the club I guess he’ll be be off back to Oz on the next flight.

Thanks for everything Pogs. Not quite Kelly/Hallworth legend status, but a couple of great seasons. I hope that he finds another club.

As for us, Marlon!! Marlon!! Marlon!!

Beresford did well, but do we really want 2 full time 40 year olds on the books?

unlucky pogs, great serveant, I would rate him alongside kelly though, he did keep more clean sheets in one season than any other oldham keeper.

when his confidence was up he was a great/(is?) a great keeper

Erm...why not? They're both quality keepers. You've already said he did well.

because at 40 you are more prone to injury and less agile, thats what happens when you get older. we need to buy a younger full time replacment for crossley when he or shez decides its time to stop.

No they are not quality keepers, thay are ok but both past there best. fact

38 is a decent age for goallies - we defo need to det someone in though rapido! Gutted for Pogs, a real character and one of the main figures since I have been coming back to BP after such a long absythe - all the best Les, you are great!

you're a thinkin about a drinkin arent you?!!

Les is and always will be a latics legend - FACT. The holder of the most clean sheets in Latics history plus a "proper" Latics player and not a mercenary. I bet he knows every inch of Boundary Park, knows the staff from the tea lady to the Chairman and is liked by all. Yes his kicking was a bit wayward but it improved which is a credit to the man for sticking at it and getting it to work. One of the best shot-stoppers I have seen between the BP sticks and the only keeper that gave me hope that a pen against did not always mean us letting a goal in.

Seeing him play in the David Eyres testimonial game is what being a Latics fan is all about, he was getting stick for his hair from the upper lookers and he was loving every minute of it, I don't think I have seen a bigger smile on the pitch at BP. When he played upfront it was hilarious! Gets a bit hazy but he definitely scored, may even have been a hatrick??? It was just good to see him back at BP.

I hated it when he was subbed in that game at half time, the defence should have dealt with at least one of the goals and stopped him having to go walkabout and I can only imagine what went on the dressing room at half time but I bet it wasn't pretty and I bet it hurt Les as much as it hurt the fans.

One of my all time favourite players at Latics and I am too old to have favourite players. In this day and age of players not giving two hoots for the clubs they play for Les is an example of how footballers should be.

I can only echo every one of the sentiments on here. Les has had the worst possible season a professional player could have and no-one deserves that. He's been a great servant and, in my view, one of the best keepers we have had in the 50-odd years I've been a true blue. Maybe not quite in the class of Goram (1st time around), Bollands or Kelly, but a big man (in every sense of the word) who we had confidence in when he was on top of his game.

Sorry to say that I, too, think we have seen the last of him so "Thanks Pogs and good luck. A true LoTW in time to come".

On the other hand, if he makes a full recovery and gets a new contract, then "Whey hey, welcome back Pogs!!"

Poor Les.

Certainly right up there in my favourite players of recent times, and a damned nice man to boot - probably only shaded in the niceness stakes by that old knacker that used to play on the left for us.

I remember going to a forum thing just after the start of the season he returned from the seaside and he just effused love for the place, the club and the fans. The smile never left his face once when he was talking about how happy he was to be back (and may I be a little presumptuous here) at a Ronnie-less BP.

When Ronnie let the big fella go I thought it was a tragic mistake, though from day one the Moore-on never had any idea how to handle the lad, he really did need an arm around him once in a while and Ronnie wasn't for doing that. The sight of the Tranmere knob tearing strips off Pogs at the behind closed doors friendly v Stockport was one he should for ever be ashamed of.

Certainly he played in far better teams than Gary Kelly, but I think he is a better keeper than GK and for his rapport with the fans I rate him right behind Goram as the best we have had in my supporting time, some of his saves have been breath taking, and despite his dodgy kicking I always felt confident when someone was going through on goal.

Good luck big fella, hopefully it won't be the last we see of you at BP, if it doesn't work out remember to come and bid us a fond farewell before leaving our shores.

I suspect there are only 4 people in the world who have any idea what that little quote means Wilson, and you and I make up half of them!

Hope it's not curtains for Les but I fear it probably is. :disappointed:

:aplayer1::imnotworthy::applause1::OASISscarf::Australia: = Pogs = Legend!
