I've highlighted the ones I know that I was definitely at. The Fulham match from May 1986 is an interesting one. Considering who the manager was and what happened the following season!! LaticsPete
I'm afraid at was at all the five most recent lowest attendances - your first list. They were dire days. But I was also in the 41733 v Liverpool in 1962, the 27888 v Peterboro in Div 4 in 1961, and other 20000 plus gates. Our gates will rise again, as will the club. Keep the faith.

Chris Ogden
I was at all the above bar Gillingham and WBA. I remember that George Riley was due to play in this game with a view to us signing him. He sustained an injury before the game and we fortunatly switched our attention to Frankie Bunn. Not sure why the Fulham attendance was so low but guessing an end of season nothing game, with practically no away following. We have never, ever been well supported; even the play-off season and premiership were still very poor attendance wise. martjs
We have never, ever been well supported; even the play-off season and premiership were still very poor attendance wise. Good point. It was the "glamour of the Cup" that got the bandwagon going in the 1990s. And didn't we sell more home tickets for the FA Cup 4th Round versus Udders than we did for the play-off game versus the Lashers?

martjs
Yes and the first play-off season that I had in mind 1986-87 saw very modest attendances. Yes, I remember it well: we never got more than 10,000 in the regular season even though we were never out of the top 3. Compare that with the Pinch Me season attendances when vouchers were needed for Cup tickets and we didn't even make the play-offs...
ThaiLatic
Off topic sorry. But has anyone got an attendance for Brighton v Latics at Filbert Street!!!!!! in a 2nd cup replay in 1970's dad reckons its as low as he can remember for any serious latics game. But could be wrong. It was about 1,800. And, I was there. As I was living in Burton on Trent it was virtually a home game for me!! I remember the night vividly because I was accosted by a local "nutter". He told me that the Filbert Street goalposts were square and that shots which hit the post were more likely to stay out as opposed to the rounded goalposts when shots would probably go in!! I remember it as if it was yesterday.

Frankly Mr Shankly
I was at the Simod Cup game. It was truly dreadful, but Joe really didn't want to be involved. Yeah, I went as well. Think we lost 0-3 in a really poor game. Haven't some of our LDV/Dulux cup games been as low attendances?

stargazer
You would remember if you were at the Orient cup game back in Jan 86. This must have been the lowest point of Joe Royle's time. If I recall correctly we hadn't won a game for about 3 months. We were in Division 2 (champs.) and put in another awful performance losing to lower league Orient . Little did we know the sun was about to start shining though. This is when Paul Jones from Bolton & Andy Linighan arrived from Leeds ,and we were so much better . To me this is where our golden era had it's starting point with the the playoffs in 86/7 the first season of plenty.

Think the crowd was about 1800, possibly 500 from both Brighton and Oldham and remainder were curious Leicester fans. Kenny Jones (an old Latics stalwart) did a one-man pitch invasion when we went 2-1 up and someone from our Barlows coach missed it after the game as he wouldn't "run the gauntlet" through Brighton fans at the end and so missed the return journey. Heady days in the League cup Remember it well, at 1-0 down there was a couple of lads going round the stand asking if we would go on the pitch to get the game abandoned, I told him we wouldn't fill the penalty area. Was a bit tasty coming down the steps at the end of the game with the Brighton fans trying to get in amongst us.
Diego_Sideburns
When Latics played at Ancona in the Anglo-Italian Cup, there were 33 Latics supporters in a crowd of 311 (including about 150 off HMS Glasgow). All but a few of the home fans boycotted the game over some dispute with their club. It's the lowest ever recorded for a competitive game involving Latics. 1
