Song for Ernie

Recommended Posts

I know we've 'Ernie for England' and that will never die but reading all the tributes and descriptions it seems that we need a song to fully capture the attributes of the fella and just why we love him so much.

"Ernie, wherever you may be,

You have left a legacy..."

Errr, help needed...

E4e

ERNIE

What about E R N I E madness

the chorus of a 1000 winners every weeks eems qutie apt.

I know it'sa bout the Premium Bonds though.

I am the bringer of your wishes,

Your saviour from doing work,

The washer of your dishes,and

You'll still get you mid-day perk.

Estate agent,

Your mansion and pot of gold,

All the home comforts,

Before you're getting tired and old.

One more try,

Try to get what you've never had,

Five more bob,

For the whole world that can't be bad.

We can't all win,

Look it's happening,

The future's looking not so bleak,

A thousand winners every week.

A thousand winners every week.

So when you hear me coming,

Along halls and up the stairs,

Get the black teapot,

In the cupboard, under chairs,

Forget all your wives tales,

Or forecasts and dividends,

E.R.N.I.E. feels vibrations,

Only pays out to trusting friends.

One more try,

Try to get what you've never had,

Five more bob,

For the whole world that can't be bad.

We can't all win,

Look it's happening,

The future's looking not so bleak,

A thousand winners every week.

A thousand winners every week.

Keep your hand on the bottle,

And your eyes glued upon the set,

When the score cards come up,

Could be you for the big one next.

Publicity, no thank you,

On the front page of the currant bun,

They think you stink,

But in the pub you'll be number one.

One more try,

Try to get what you've never had,

Five more bob,

For the whole world that can't be bad.

We can't all win,

Look it's happening,

The future's looking not so bleak,

A thousand winners every week.

A thousand winners every week.

A thousand winners every week.

A thousand winners every week.

CAn't find the song, as I am at work, cannot remember know

If we do go up this season / or at wembley / or even another giant killing like Everton - I am hopefull of the loudest rendition of "Ernie For England" ever.

That bellowing round wembley stadium next may would put a smile on my face.

Right. People keep moaning about people nicking United songs for other players.

Been looking at different songs on vid's ranging from absolutely allsorts. Just clicking links to see if any songs actually fit to what Ernie stood for. Pride, Passion and Determination right until his very last breath.

None i've heard so far fit better than the old scottish folk song - Keep Right On till the end of the Road

Ev'ry road thro' life is a long, long road,

Fill'd with joys and sorrows too,

As you journey on how your heart will yearn

For the things most dear to you.

With wealth and love 'tis so,

But onward we must go.

Chorus:

Keep right on to the end of the road,

Keep right on to the end,

Tho' the way be long, let your heart be strong,

Keep right on round the bend.

Tho' you're tired and weary still journey on,

Till you come to your happy abode,

Where all the love you've been dreaming of

Will be there at the end of the road.

With a big stout heart to a long steep hill,

We may get there with a smile,

With a good kind thought and an end in view,

We may cut short many a mile.

So let courage ev'ry day

Be your guiding star alway.

Most lines are very appropriate to what Ernie stood for in every sense. Bit of tweaking to incorporate Ernie more into it and wallah. We've got an anthem for Ernie that'd evoke some emotion. Alot infact.

Yes, before people say. I know Birmingham have this = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNoNaE7rO90 - though they've tweaked it themselves to fit to them. Does sound quality though. No doubt people will say, "why do we have to pinch songs from other teams in the first place." :popcorn2: Yet come up with absolutely nothing themselves. :surrender: Plus apparantly we're not allowed to have songs more than four lines long at 'tics. :tongue1::applause1:

Try as I may, I can't get people to sing this second verse:

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Andy Ritchie's magic

He wears a magic hat

He played for Oldham Athletic

He's such a lovely chap

He scored goals with his left foot

He scored goals with his right

And when we played Man City

He scored all feckin' night
