Ernieflag on Tour

Just to let everyone know that I've done the Swindon report, but there is a problem with the site at present. It may be a few days before it's sorted, by which time those who went to the match may have calmed down and feel better about reading the report.

I hope it includes how playing the White Stripes despite the CD losing its good fortune in midweek condemned us to another 2-0 defeat...

Icky thump - It certainly includes reference to playing the White Stripes, but without such a negative interpretation! What musn't be forgotten is that playing it throughout a season, in spite of the odd blip here and there, is a tried and tested method of assisting in securing a play-off place.

A few days? I feel you have underestimated the power of "Super Bock" lager and getting beaten at darts off "Latics and England" (remembering form is temporary etc....). It's up again now, but whoever is advertising Japanese Teen specialist websites on the guestbook, please could you knock it off?

I was only the messenger about the estimated downtime.

So the report on the Swindon trip is now available on the ernieflag site:

Excellent report.....how have i missed these? Busy reading them all now.

You are wasted on here Diego i feel you should have a slot on local BBC Sports News

You could give our local anchorman (Gordon Burns) a run for his money.

In fact you could do a combined report under the name Diegordon Burns...... :)

MICHAEL YARWOOD’S weekly look behind the scenes at Boundary Park

THE Ernie Cooksey flag is continuing its tour of League One and beyond.

A group of Latics fans who had the flag made to celebrate Ernie’s life, and also to raise awareness of the cancer which killed him, have taken it to every Athletic game this season.

One of the supporters, Mark Winterbottom, also follows England abroad and had an odd experience when the Ernie flag went on its travels to the World Cup qualifier in Belarus.

Mark said: “We were on the main street in Minsk when a couple of local lads asked to hold the flag for a photo.

“When they went on to the street they were totally mobbed with locals – mainly girls – wanting their pictures taken with the flag.

“We ended up having a 10-minute photo shoot which also led to a number of photographers from local papers and the Reuters news agency snapping away.

“I haven’t seen any of the pictures in the press, but they may well have been used abroad.”

England beat Belarus 3-1 with two goals from Wayne Rooney and another from Steven Gerrard – but not before Mark and his friends had tasted one of those “what a small world” moments.

He recalled: “We were outside the ground when a gentleman came over and asked if it would be okay for him to take a photo.

“Of course we agreed, and he then explained he was the chief scout at Grays Athletic and actually had a number of pictures from Ernie’s funeral on his mobile phone.”

Ernie was playing for Grays when he received the news that he was suffering from malignant melanoma. He later died, in early July, at the age of 28.

The bloody rarely wrong at it again!!! The lads never asked for the photo and the first batch of girls were no accident. It was all my doing I'll have you know and I want some credit or I will jump up and down and stamp my feet!!!! Now where's my rattle

From the Chaddy I couldn't see the Ernie Flag in the RRE during the first half last night, when we were under a lot of pressure. When it appeared for the second half it seemed to be the signal for the lads to do it for Ernie and preserve BP's 'fortress' status, with a performance of which the little man would have been very proud.

I think you will find that when we scored the first goal it was perfectly positioned as was demonstrated on Sky Sports News last night!

And yes, it was all down to you Mark, the girls didn't want to hold the flag really, it was just a chance to get near you. You must lend me that aftershave

I searched for it in vain in the first half but spotted it easily in the second. Thanks Ernie for that defelection - it was just the break we needed!

The Flag is shown clearly on the official Scunny picture of the RRE visiting fans.
