boboafc
http://freeforum.avg.com/read.php?12,142806,backpage=,sv= UPDATE .BIN error information... Aug 16th 2008 Posted by: rdsok - Moderator (IP Logged) Date: August 17, 2008 12:07AM Currently the update for AVG Free v8 is corrupted... you will have to wait for AVG Technologies to address the issue with the update. Reporting the issue again by other users here will not do any good util it is resolved. The updates that your AVG currently have will still provide the protection it is setup to detect. In otherwords, not being able to get this update will not make your AVG Free ineffective and as soon as AVG Tech resolves the issue you will be able to update to the current virus definitions at that time. So in short... please do not post to report the issue, its already known. Also please be patient until AVG Technologies can address the issue. Also... for those user that did report the issue... thanks for the info.

Matt
With continuing issues with AVG and Firefox - I dumped AVG months back. I now use Comodo, but Avast is an excellent alternative also. Avast has long since been the free application of choice for the people at Hijackthis - so it comes well recommended.

Matt , should I be changing over as well ? as you know i am on IE7 The zonealarm "Issue" never rectified itself as well i still have the firewall set on "medium" Edited August 17, 2008 by oa_exile
Matt
Matt , should I be changing over as well ? as you know i am on IE7 The zonealarm "Issue" never rectified itself as well i still have the firewall set on "medium" If you are having no issue with it, don't change it! I had an untold amount of computability issues and general operating problems with AVG. Personally I felt like I couldn't rely on the application to do it's job under my circumstances, so I got shot. The choice between keeping Firefox or AVG is a no brainer IMO. If you are just having the odd update problem like this one, leave it as it is. Crusoe
Er, isn't COMODO a personal firewall? Or do they have AV software as well?

Crusoe
Cool, I didn't know they did AV as well. I'm using their firewall and it's not too bad. Might switch from Avast if you recommend it.
