League One Weekend Fixture Preview – 20th Sept 2008

Welcome to this week's edition of "League One Weekend Fixture Preview", previewing the League One action away from the Boundary Park camp.

Carlisle United vs. Leeds United

Carlisle will look to turn around last week's defeat against Scunthorpe when they host Leeds United, who come into this game winning their last two. Leeds United also knocked Carlisle out of last season's playoffs, which may add some spice to the game.

Carlisle's Michael Bridges looks set to face his old club after he was declared fit for the fixture earlier this week. Jennison Myrie-Williams may also feature having arrived on loan from Bristol City earlier this week.

Lubomir Michalik may return for Leeds having served his match suspension last week. Gary McAllister is still unsure who to select for the vacant left back position following Alan Sheehan's sending off last week. Youngster Aiden White, Andy Hughes and Ben Parker are likely contenders.

Prediction: Carlisle 1-1 Leeds

Hereford United vs. Scunthorpe United

Scunthorpe travel to bottom-placed Hereford this weekend with both teams in search of points but for different reasons.

Scunthorpe will be hoping for their fifth consecutive league win. Matt Sparrow, Martyn Woolford and Izzy Iriekpen will all want to feature having impressed from the bench last week.

For Hereford, Andy Williams is a doubt having sustained an ankle injury last weekend. Karl Broadhurst returns to the fold from injury. Robbie Threlfall returned to Liverpool this week, whilst Moses Ashikodi and Jack Macleod are also major doubts.

Prediction: Hereford 1-3 Scunthorpe

Millwall vs. Cheltenham Town

Cheltenham will look to repeat their midweek performance under new manager Martin Allen when they travel to Millwall this weekend.

Millwall's Tresor Kandol will start a three match ban this week whilst Neil Harris has been ruled out by injury. This may force Kenny Jackett to reshuffle the pack playing Gary Alexander and Lewis Grabban upfront and bringing in Ahmet Brkovic and Karl Moore to midfield.

Drissa Diallo may feature for Cheltenham having arrived on loan from MK Dons this week. Damian Spencer may make his first appearance this season having recovered from injury. Dean Sinclair returned to Charlton concluding his loan this week.

Prediction: Millwall 2-1 Cheltenham

Leyton Orient vs. Leicester City

Leicester City will hope to bounce back from last week's defeat as they travel to Leyton Orient.

Kerry Gilbert looks set to return for the foxes. Patrick Kisnorbo may also feature now he is back in full training. Stephen Clemence, Joe Mattock and Ashley Chambers all remain out.

Dean Morgan looks set to make his first appearance for Orient. JJ Melligan is also available for selection having recovered from his injury sustained last week. Wayne Gray still remains on the sidelines whilst Saturday looks too soon for Simon Dawkins, Tamika Mkandawire and Danny Granville.

Prediction: Orient 0-1 Leicester

Brighton & Hove Albion vs. Walsall

Walsall make the long trip to Brighton this week as they hope to add more points to the board.

Brighton hit-man Danny Forster is a strong doubt, with Gary Hart, Jonny Dixon and Adam Virgo all looking to fill his boots. Joe Anyinsah and Colin Hawkins miss out through suspension and injury respectively, whilst Jake Robinson returns to the fold.

Walsall's Anthony Gerrard and Stephen Hughes have been passed fit. Otherwise, boss Jimmy Mullen has a fully fit squad to select from this weekend.

Prediction: Brighton 1-0 Walsall

Colchester United vs. MK Dons

Recently-relegated Colchester host newly-promoted MK Dons this weekend, with both teams looking to bounce back from their respective defeats last week.

Colchester will welcome Matt Lockwood back to the squad, returning from injury. Steven Gillespie starts a three game suspension, with Sunday Wasiu hoping to take his place after performing well in the reserves.

MK's Ali Gerba will hope to make his debut this weekend with work permit formalities now completed. Kevin Gallen is also available for selection, providing Roberto Di Matteo more options up front. Donal McDermott may start after impressing from the bench last week. Danny Swailes, Florian Sturm and Luke Howell are all out.

Prediction: Colchester 1-2 MK Dons

Stockport County vs. Swindon Town

As Swindon travel north to face Stockport, they will hope to bounce back from last weeks loss against Leeds United.

Stockport's Carl Baker should return to first team action this week from injury. Matty McNeil and Jason Taylor remain sidelined through injury.

Swindon boss Maurice Malpas said changes will definitely be made for this game. Goalkeeper Peter Brezovan and Patrick Kanyuka may return from injury for Swindon. Bradley Corr may also feature along with Chris Allen and Michael Pook, who impressed in reserve action.

Prediction: Stockport 1-1 Swindon

Peterborough United vs. Tranmere Rovers

Peterborough will look to improve on their inconsistent start in League One when they host Tranmere.

Aaron Mclean remains sidelined through injury for The Posh. Shane Blackett is also out through injury. Dean Keates and Sergio Torres are major doubts for Peterborough.

Ronnie Moore has a full squad at his disposal for Tranmere's visit to Peterborough. Gareth Edds and Godwin Antwi are back to full fitness but Ryan Shotton's recent performances may keep them on the bench.

Prediction: Peterborough 1-2 Tranmere

Crewe Alexandra vs. Southend United

Both Crewe and Southend will hope to repeat their respective wins last week, having previously been on a run of consecutive league defeats.

Crewe have pretty much a full strength side to choose from. Chris McCready and Adam Legzdins remain injured and unavailable to play against Southend.

Southend's Ian Joyce looks set to make his professional debut replacing Steve Mildenhall, who is out for a minimum of four weeks through injury. Alan McCormack is still out through injury.

Prediction: Crewe 1-0 Southend

Huddersfield Town vs. Northampton Town

Huddersfield Town will hope to rectify their dismal start to this year's League One campaign when they host Northampton.

Huddersfield boss Stan Ternant has injury doubts over captain Chris Lucketti and Danny Cadamarteri. Tom Clarke will definitely miss out, but Andy Booth may return to action.

For Northampton, Adebayo Akinfenwa will be pushing for a starting place this week. Jason Crowe and Liam Davies return from suspension and injury respectively, but Chris Doig is doubtful.

Prediction: Huddersfield 1-1 Northampton

Yeovil Town vs. Bristol Rovers

Bristol Rovers will hope to turn around their previous three consecutive league defeats with a win when they visit Yeovil.

Russell Slade has a near fully fit side available for Yeovil. Darren Way looks set to return this week after a virus kept him out last week, whilst Lee Peltier should also be fit. Marc Bircham, Aidan Downes and Nathan Smith all returned to full training and may feature.

Bristol's leading hit-man Rickie Lambert should recover in time for this weekend's game. Jeff Hughes is doubtful, but Ryan Green and Danny Coles successfully returned to action during the week.

Prediction: Yeovil 1-0 Bristol
