youngen
With Shezs comments about Hughes do you feel that should Hughesy be sold, Shez may well make a stand and leave the club as any decent players he has get sold on without his concent. Also if Hughesy does go then I cant see much assault on promotion happening and thus it will cost Sheridan his job anyway as is he not at the end of is 3 year plan then. Same with Taylor, even if Taylor is a bone idle lazy attitude problem git. He still looks dangeroous sometimes.

But people need to understand, if there is a minimum release clause in his contract of 400k, then if someone bids that amount TTA cannot reject it, as it is in hughes's contract. If it is less than this clause and they sell, different story alltogether,

If it is less than this clause and they sell, different story alltogether, depends on the terminology....if it says he can talk to any other club who offers 400k,he will talk.....its different to saying if a club offers 400k we have to accept it and he has to leave....he doesnt have to do anything if he doesnt want to..... Exactly, a penny less than 400k and TTA can reject it, but 400k or more they HAVE to accept, but Hughesy could still reject a move.
singe
How can anybody not think that 400k for Hughes is NOT good business? Despite Hughes being an excellent player, and undoubtedly a major part in any promotion hopes, he is in the twighlight of his career, might get injured, and has only a few seasons left in him. And he can leave at th eend of the season at the end of his contract. We are half way through the season, if he was as good as some think he is, we would already be in the top 2. 400k? They would be off their trolleys not to accept. People are forgetting the economic downturn, the seriosus delay in the stadiumm, and the money already pumped into a small club like Oldham. CAnnot blame the TTA one bit. Harsh realities of the world. On don't forget the situation is worse in the US. So we have the scenario he leaves in 6 months on a free (promoted or not) , everyone says what a loyal hero. Or he leaves in Jan for 400k, and everyone says Judas? Your probably not far off their singe. TTA will look at it from 2 points of view. Firstly as football/Latics fans and secondly from a business and long term financial plan. They have said many times that they have a "certain pot" of money that they are prepared to invest into the club. By that I presume they mean that they will put £x in until the ground becomes re-developed (or we move to a new stadium) and produces additional income to make us self sufficient. i.e. without tta having to dig into their pockets each year. My worry with that is when does that pot run out. The sale of Trotman, the possible sales of Hughes/Taylor/Eardley etc may extend that period and allow us to get to the point of re-development and self sufficiency and this may be in their minds at the moment especially with the financial downturn. The other thing that no one has mentioned in this debate is TV revenue. IIRC does a new TV contract kick in next season with a big jump for Championship clubs? (Has anyone got a link to the figures please?) If a new contract does kick in with much higher revenues in the Championship, this may have had a bearing on the terms on the contract offered to Lee. Harry Dowds Green Shirt
Just looked up the article on the TV deal. The mechanism for distibution of tv monies is 80% to Championship clubs, 12% to League 1 clubs and 8% to League 2 clubs. .......................Championship:...........League 1:............Difference:.... Current Deal....£1,350,000.................£200,000................£1,150,000.... New Deal.........£2,850,000.................£470,000................£2,380,000.... The difference in income next season from TV income by being in the Championship is more than we currently take through the turnstiles. and is in excess of £45,000 per week additional income. This must have a bearing on the contract being offered to Hughes and I would imagine that the contract would have terms in along the lines of £x per week if we are league 1 and £y per week if we are promited to the Championship.
