Hughes Contract Deadline

Recommended Posts

Will we be setting one? No good a Championship club coming in end of Jan with 400k and an offer he wants to accept giving us two or three days to sort a replacement out. If he wants to play for us get it signed if he dont cash him in then we have four weeks to sort out a replacement. How much of the 400k would Shez get to replace him with?

Newell hoping to sort out a perm deal for JP and County have a verbal agreement with us to keep Thompson just need to find a club for Woolfy now or is he still injured??

Bristol have just paid out 750k for a striker so I doubt that they will now be in for Eardly as they seem to think thats all the budget gone.

Hughes is under contract until the end of the season. He can continue on current pay and conditions until then. The new contract offer is on the table, the club can withdraw it at any time.

If another club comes in with £400K then we have to let Hughes talk to them - anything less then it's up to us. Talk of a deadline is pretty meaningless. We have said we are very keen to keep him so will probably give him as much time as possible - whilst also monitoring other situations.

Without any "sources", "heard in the pub", read on facebook" etc information it wouldn't surprise me if he was here for the rest of the season, if we go up he'll look at offers from us and others, if we stay down he'd be off on a free.

While he's here, other teams are scared of him, he's always likely to get a goal, and he plays with passion .

If he stays to the seasons end he can pocket a signing on fee himself and still get a lucrative contract from another club or sign a pre contract agreement with same effect saving the signing club some dosh if they can afford to wait (a mid table Championship club) nothing we can do to stop it.

The issue got me thinking about offers for younger players. Whilst it hurts we have to take the money when its offered. Thinking of Scott Spencer, Philliskirk, Trotters, in the past Wayne Harrison. What looks a good young player doesn't mean they will be a good or a fit older player. eg Hall and the mighty Bosh. Should we have already cashed in on Eardley, Smalley, Lewis but then can we complain if they choose to leave. VERY HARD for clubs like us to strike a balance.

Having had a think about Hughes its hard to call but IF cash is offered to suit us then we should probably take it even if less than the 400k. Perhaps even trying a cheeky bid for Trotters. :naughty:

Have you ever heard of the phrase, patience is a virtue?

Also with what happened with Porter and losing around 750K TTA mentioned that this would not happen again. Would they be willing to keep Hughes knowing that he can walk on a free or would they be looking to get a fee for him this month even if its not 400k, would TTA accept a cheeky 250k if Hughes hasn't signed by end of Jan or hold out hoping he can take us up?

Sorry Jonny but why are you asking? Nobody knows for certain and over the last month everybody's opinion must surely have been posted on here!!
