Rick
How about playing Windass in a midfield role (similar to how Shez played for us) with Davies and Hughes up front? Windass has great touch and vision and hits a mean free kick....

kellys_discopants
Prefer it where he played today, just dropping back alittle to pick up the ball.
Guest sheridans_world
I was wondering this. On Windass' Wikipedia page he is listed as midfielder/striker. Does this mean we play with five in Midfield and a lone striker??
beag_teeets
Blimey, I've just had the same thought on another thread - great minds 'eh? - Or small ones seldom differ?

Hes not a central midfielder and never will be though.
Rick
Another radical thought... stop thinking Rick. Did you say thinking or drinking Looked reasonably fit today, but he is ageing and we could probably get more out of him by getting someone else to do more of the running, with him being more withdrawn from the front line. Ohh Johnny Eyre
The thought entered my head. 3 centre backs - Stam, Reuben and El Cap. Wing Back's - Taylor and Lee/Welsh Lad. 2 "Holding Mid's - Allott and the K. Maher Windass in a "free role" tucked in behind the front two of.... Mental I and Mental II. Do we play a diamond (ey up, complicated), with Maher holding and Windass attacking with Hughes and Davies upfront? Still 4-4-2 ------GF------ NE-RH-SG-KL -----KM------- DS---------CT -----DW------ ---LH---CD---

Or thats the other option, go a 3-5-2 - I think both could work well.

The way he's been playing for United at the moment (especially against Derby) - He'll be at BP in the summer (and I dont just mean to watch the match!) Yes with a 3-5-2 you'd have to play Stam, Hazell and Gregan, it would leave us severly lacking cover. Only takes an injury and a yellow card (triggering a suspension) and thats your defence decimated. Didnt we have a half-decent young centre-back in the youth team/reserves? Edit: Rose?? Rose is a right back, you're probably thinking of Esdaille-Biney or however it's spelt. Looks very promising but he's nowhere near ready for the first team yet, he's still only a first year apprentice so with 18 months to develop until/if he turns pro he'll hopefully a very good player by then.
