tangerinedreams Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 How far can you see us reaching in next years tournament?? What would your starting 11 be?? Would you go for experience or young'uns?? I can't make my mind up about this........yet. FL has said today "we CAN win the world cup" confidence or arrogance? I'm a little unsure of a few starting places......keeper being the 1st.....CB the 2nd......but I'll have some of Rooney/ Gerrard partnership up front. Quote
garcon Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 We'll flatter to deceive and get knocled out in the quarters or semis on penalties. The only thing we really need to speculate about is who the scape goat will be. Quote

fleetwood Blue Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 We always get massively hyped up before any world cup as potential winners but as for South Africa next summer i dont think you can look beyond Spain , They have quality throughout the side and will take some beating. As for our starting 11 i think we will start with: Foster G.Johnson Terry Ferdinand A.Cole Walcott Lampard Barry J.Cole Gerrard Rooney Quote
Diego_Sideburns Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 If we qualify, it would be nice to reach the Final for a change, even if it ended the same way as the under 21s and under 19s. Quote

rudemedic Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 England with the entire first team fit will do quite well (but the Semi's is realistically as far as we'll get). Spain will do very well but I wouldn't rule out Argentina as with their attacking prowess (Messi, Kun Aguero etc.) I think they could win it too. I never like it when we play with really only Rooney upfront as it looks like we will be short of goals and Rooney's not best suited to play as a lone striker (even with the likes of Gerrard and Walcott just behind him). With it being in SA at least it won't be obscenely hot, (the good days at that time of year are like the day we are having today) so I think that might help as with our fast tempo game we sometimes struggle in the heat. Quote
garcon Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Heat shouldn't be a problem, but depending where we're based altitude might be. It's a long shot, but a good season for United could see the return of the Rooney/Owen partnership for England... Quote

The altitude is what most players suffered from in the CONFEDs I got altitude sickness at one point. Quote
Macca Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 I'll just be happy being at the World Cup Finals next year. Think we're good enough to get out of the groups, anything more will have to take game by game. Quote

We will struggle to get through the group but manage it at the last gap and then lose all sense of balance and believe we will go all the way! Honestly, young 'uns these days know nowt. Quote
Oafc88 Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 I believe if England can quielty go about their business at the moment and keep on steadily improving they could just hit form at the right time and then... who knows? as it is with knouckout tournaments, i think from the second round onwards its anybodys, if the top 5 or 6 are in that stage anyone can beat anybody. Looking forward the world cup anyway, bring it on!! World Cup Champions 2010 Quote
rudemedic Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 The altitude is what most players suffered from in the CONFEDs I got altitude sickness at one point. If England had any sense they'd be booking up Sun City now. It is definately one of the best hotels in SA with some good outside stuff but its also on the velt (which ain't that high be surprised if anyone got altitude sickness to be honest). Its close enough that they won't have to travel to stay anywhere for 4 of the stadia (the two in Jo'burg, Pretoria and Rustenburg) oh and you can't catch malaria (unlike some bits of SA). Quote

Stitch_KTF Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Although I was thrown out and banned from the pub for being, erm, over-passionate after we were knocked out of Euro 2004.......I hope we lose every game. The players and the premiership are over-lauded as it is, last thing clubs like Latics need is their status elevating even further. Bollocks to them. Latics > England Quote
