leeslover Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 29 A bit before my time then. I don’t know if they would find a reason not to execute a Westerner or not, I dare say there will be some pressure put on, but at the same time you can’t really ask them to run the country themselves and then not to apply the law as it stands. Must be terrible for the family anyway. Quote

On a personal level I’m very much against the death penalty but I feel this might be a very hard one for British Politicians to argue if it gets that far. I feel sorry for the family but find it hard to think of anything positive to say about Danny. Quote

oafcprozac Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 I sat next to him in orm from being 11 to 16. His dad and step-mum were on the news Friday night, apparently he has mental health issues dating back to his service days. He shouldn't have been allowed to go and work back in Iraq as everyone around him felt he needed some sort of help to get over the things that still haunted him. So sad for the two lads he killed and the lad himself. Another one failed by the system, but why oh why did he go back out there... Quote
Rocky_Latic Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Yes it is. His mum and dad currently work at our place. Eric was in twice the week just gone doing swimming in the holiday club. Really nice bloke. I wouldnt of known about his son had I not been told by a few of the staff. God knows why he came in whilst going through this. Must be awful what him and the rest of his family are going through. Quote
OldhamSheridan Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Let's face it they ain't going to kill a Brit. They never do. Worst case scenario: Jailed for life, moved to one of our jails and out in twenty years. Quote

Let’s be brutally honest here, they aren’t going to say, “he always had a short fuse when he’d been on the lash for 12 hours.” It’s sad what happened but these guys go there because they get very very well paid for it and they will have the full expectation that they are going to be required to kill people in the course of their job. It’s not going to attract people with an interest in flower arranging. Quote

RIP the two who needslessly died, but this needless war has claimed another three victims. He has had a chequered past from a very young age. The two guys who were killed were the ones who were let down by the system as he has always had some vicious tendancies to say the least. I don't necessarily believe that his recent troubles were the start of this, if anything they could have been the straw that broke the camels back as he was always a ticking timebomb and there are many, many people who could vouch for this. Very possible - however a worry is that, unlike here - a very good "fair" society, where such an incident, you would likely be correctly jailed for your misdemeanor - there he could hang!! Justice is paying for your crime and given the chance to repent - Middle Eastern punishment only work to this rule when on their terms. I hope he's punished........But not with his life! Quote

leeslover Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 I agree with that wholeheartedly. I don't really. It's only recently that private Western security guards have fallen under Iraqi law AT ALL - god knows what some of them got up to when they were above it. So it's far from the case that the law is working against them. Whether you agree with the death penalty or not is another question, but you know what the law is when you go to another country. Go on a shooting spree in Texas and see what happens to you. Quote
