Crusoe Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Was a good player, may be useful as an impact sub and morale booster, but no pace and he'll be even older and less useful at the next major tournament. Should invest time in bringing the next generation through instead. Quote
Horlicks Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 I think he could still do a job as an impact sub but if Capello doesn't think he has an England future then that is fair enough but the man deserves better than finding out in some dodgy ITV interview. Quote
24hoursfromtulsehill Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 at 35 yes The FA should arrange a friendly with a big international team - say, Germany - and Capello should pick a retirement squad, including at least seven of last night's starters. Goodbye lads! Thanks for the memories! Quote

I agree. Beckham and the others should find out when their names repeatedly fail to appear in squad lists. Quote

Big qualification game, injury hit squad.... I would of still considered him... Quote
Hometownclub Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 +1 I wouldn't of retired him... Big qualification game, injury hit squad.... I would of still considered him... Including him. Quote
oafc0000 Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Including him. I was talking about a situation maybe in the future... Quote
BigfinLatic Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 .. when I saw this thread I was secretly hoping it was going to be a rumour about Beckham joining Latics... That would have been the best ever. Quote
Hornbloweroafc Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 I haven't read anywhere that states Capello saying he as "RETIRED" Becks from England International football. All he said he is old and willing to give the younger 'stars' games. I think it is time for Becks to step aside. Also the papers after the world cup where screaming for the "golden Generation" to be dropped, so Capello does and now they're not happy! Make your mind up reporters. Quote
Hometownclub Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 I was talking about a situation maybe in the future... TBH if currently injured 35 year old outfield players are the future then we are struggling even more than I thought we were. Quote
garcon Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Phil Neville had some interesting things to say about players "retiring". When asked whether it was necessary for players such as Wes Brown to announce their retirement, he said not, what's wrong with just assuming you've retired when you stop getting picked? Quote
24hoursfromtulsehill Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Exactly. The players are obviously moaning to the press about Capello to divert attention from their own failings. The press go along with this because they need access to the players - they might even get a ghostwriting deal out of it somewhere down the line. The only right of reply to this disgraceful behaviour available to Capello is his undisputable right to pick the team. Saying you are retiring is a clear challenge to that privilege. Capello should go first and go hard at the pampered queens, and just not pick people. If they cry about it to their press pig mates, they go in the black book. If they work hard and keep their heads down, they might play again. Phil Neville England manager. Got a certain ring to it. Quote

Hometownclub Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 ? He is not our future... but to just consider him as a possible backup surely isn't that much of an issue... It's not an issue atall, Capello has decided that he's now too old to be considered in his future teams/squads, thats the end of that I guess. Quote

garcon Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 I wonder if Capello has decided that having Beckham on the staff for the World Cup didn't work out? Quote
