lancy lad Posted September 1, 2010 Author Posted September 1, 2010 finished 2-1 to the scum....jacobson for us How did we play Jacko? Any good performers? Quote
Crusoe Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 I get the impression Jacobson is very serious about working for his place in the team (and off the transfer list). If so, good luck to him. Quote
pcassist Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 (edited) How did we play Jacko? Any good performers? Jacobson was "Man Of The Match" by a long way, the trialist centre half Julian Cherel also looked and played the part, good in the air and liked to get forward. Not sure if trialing this lad says the end for Greegs is in site but I have my worries for Gregan and his problems. Overall a good team performance, but who told Worthington he could play football???????????????? Also saw a Mr Purdie play and he did OK, we we're a bit light weight upfront and played a 1-4-1-4-1 formation with a 5' 2" against Ferdinand and Brown no contest until Ferdinand went off and Jacobson scored a blinder. United's second by Fredirico Macheda was a 30 yard stunner. Ian G. Edited September 1, 2010 by pcassist Quote

Ian G. agree about jacobsen, the best player tonight, worthington, and holdsworth very poor in midfield, strange tactics for me with 1 up front the forward needed support with that formation but as worthington and holdsworth got nose bleeds past the half way line it was never going to happen Quote
Macca Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Jacobson was quality last week as well against Tranmere, good that he's done the same again tonight. Black would be unlucky to lose his place and I don't think Jacobson is a winger either. I'd certainly keep Joe in the squad. Dickov was moaning about the lack of crosses last night, crosses and good ones at that is what Jacobson has been doing of late. Quote
biggie21 Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 why not take a chance and play him on the wing, im sure he can do a better job than taylor, he does have a decent left foot and crosses Quote
boundaryblue80 Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Expected a bit of a beating tonight to be honest...Spent good portions of the game being pressed back, but ventured out at times and had the odd flurry of chances. Millar opened our shot count as he ran lose into the box and should've fired early...his delay allowed a defender to nip in an deflect it narrowly wide. JJ stepped up a few minutes later with a free-kick that hit the bar. For a lot of the game, The Scum were more huff and puff than cutting decisive. Anderson was quite frankly poor and Cherel kept Macheda quiet for large periods of the game. 2nd half and we came out in blistering pace. Crompton, who was a fly in the oinkment all night forced a good save and from the corner JJ's downward header went right through their keeper. A good firm header, but that was embarrassing on their GK's part. Within seconds though, it was 1-1...Ajose went down the other end and from the corner of the box hit a spectulative shot that went right in. The game quietened down after that and Latics were at times camped in defence. The Scum had plenty of possesion around our the final 3rd but going nowhere (reminded me of us trying to get into Shrewsbury last night) and finally ended up resorting to pot shots. Sadly, another speculative one went in...clearly their pot shots were a bit better than ours last night. Macheda firing one in off the crossbar. Was a good game overall, even if at times we had to bail water out a bit. Made them work and gave away few openings. The highlight was JJ and this French lad, Cherel. Matty D Carr and Lomax barely put a foot wrong too, but they didn't stand out the same as the other 2. Some excellent stuff from JJ tonight! A little shaky in the first 5 or 10 minutes as he twice let the lad up against him outmuscle him...after that though, he won everything and pushed forward aplenty. Grew with confidence, cracking free-kick which hit the bar and then nicked us a goal. Can't ask for much more. As for Cherel...this lad was good! Very good! If there's one thing we lack a bit at the back, it's pace. This lad has it in abundance. One funny moment was when we won a FK near our box and Cherel legged it 50yds upfield wanting the ball played long to him. Nobody cottoned on so he looked a bit stupid, but the pace he showed was lightning. He won everything in the air...even against Rio in the 1st half at a corner. Stuck one of their lads into railings in the 2nd half. And rarely allowed Macheda any room at all. I really couldn't choose between him and Cherel as to who was MOTM for us. These two put Worthingtons performance to shame...he barely touched it in the 1st 20mins and when he did, there was nothing there. Clueless and disinterested for 70 minutes...got into it a little late on as the Scum made their subs. But he looks happy and content to con a wage for the next 8 months. Shame we've no money to pay him off with as he's taking a kids place in that reserve team! Overall, a good workout and most of the lads can hold their heads very high from tonight. Hope for a few more evening ressie games for this season...can't make the afternoon ones. Quote
