Looking over the month. There are a couple of issues that I think warrant further discussion.

Downward spiral

Early season optimism is fading fast, whilst it is quite right that we should not have got too carrried away, we should not get too disheartened as teams suss us out, we should adapt, but it's happened fairly quickly

Lifting the place

PD and others have talked about giving the whole pace a lift, and that PD's enthusiasm was rubbing off.

The question is, as we have been ground down whether we can get a lift again soon.

Dropping Heads

We started off in a blaze fof glory, but heads have seemingly markedly dropped. Something that can be retified

Leaders/Talkers on the ptich

Possibly the most worrying aspect, most other things mentioned in this peice can quickly be rectified.

Manager after manager has talked about this

It was worrying to see PD also saying it happened after Rueben Hazell came off. Is it a feature of League One or Oldham in particular.

Bristol Rovers gamemight not provide the answer, but it is going to be interesting to see if PD can raise the spirits again.

Nothing to get downbeat, we'd have taken this start, with one only demoralsiing defeat so far.

But interesting to see how this pans out.

Great start for me (bar the two cups but league is far more important) We are in the top 4!!!!!! 2nd best defence in the division, one of the top scorers, Excellent start to the league campain. Lets hope we can keep the ball rolling on Saturday.

For me, my expectations have been met...early season siege mentality slowly blends into a dose of reality. Reminds me of the start Leyton Orient had a few years back and even ourselves under Shez when we got 16 from 18pts. Talk of playoffs have been nothing but laughable IMO. We've gained 8 very valuable points towards our 1st main objective of 52pts this season.

Big chance to do this on Saturday. Personally, I think it'll be another draw but a win will help to keep morale ticking over.

I'm not so sure I'd say that heads have dropped. I think the side is up for it and focused as it was from day one. The last 2 games have been what I expected...tough games that the side has struggled to display any cutting edge (Shrewsbury was like land of the midgets at times.) From day one I've felt the cuttnig edge will again be our achilles heal this season. As yet though, heads aren't down I don't think.

Agree 100% on this one. Was alarmed by that comment too. Although to be fair, he's identified it nice and early. I'd say that with a young team, you probably have more sheepish/quieter players than usual. Jarrett is a talker, Brill is, Hazell too. With Hazell going off, maybe Brill could've offered more? Shame that Furman or Lee are included in this "non-talkers" bracket as I would've expected both of those to have been louder in their previous clubs reserve set-up.

I have a feeling Saturday will be quite defining in some ways. A similar side to Yeovil, with a bit better cutting edge. Play like last Saturday and we'll lose...as he had nothing to lose at Charlton, this is arguably PD's 1st real test.

It's all about the business end of the pitch.

Our manager was a striker.

I think he'll get it right there.

That’s my hope & also my expectation to be honest.

We have 2 pretty small strikers in Djeny Bembo-Lita & Dean Kelly. Feeney isn’t exactly a big lad; nor is Brooke either (when he gets back from his injury). It’s only big bad Oumare who falls under the banner of ‘big man’ striker.

Dickov made a very good career for himself as a front line striker; despite his diminutive stature. If he can work with the front players; and try to impart some of his experience & knowledge onto them; in terms of how best to use your size; and the ways & means of playing against bigger CB’s – then DBL & Kelly should come on leaps & bounds in their development. Oumare will get better with every game & every training session as they work with him. Even the more experienced Feeney will surely; surely benefit from listening & learning from PD.

We have a massively young squad; and they’ll have to do a heck of lot of learning quickly – but the striking department is the one who need to learn the fastest IMO.
