Diego_Sideburns
The Shane Meadows film is to be shown on Channel 4 tonight at 11:10pm. The follow-up four-part TV series 'This is England '86' starts tomorrow at 10:00pm on Channel 4.
pukka
I watched it again last night. Great movie, I'd forgotten how good. I've been looking forward to this since I heard about it. My mate has written and directed a short film (also commissioned by Channel 4) starring Woody (Joseph Gilgun) about a homeless pair from Hulme. I'm not sure whether it'll be under the pseudonym "Charles Flamingo" or under his real name James Meadows (the obvious comparison is already there which is unfortunate). Roger Ritchie
I loved Dead Mans Shoes, 24/7 and a Room for Romeo Brass (once up on a time in a midlands is on film4 wednesday, well worth a watch), but I found this is England to be pretty average with far too many gaps in it. This however looks like it will come together a lot more than the film which jumped a bit too much.
pukka
24/7 is the only Shane Meadows film I'm not a fan of. Romeo Brass is funny and slightly disturbing in equal measure.
downender2
Dead Mans Shoes probably one of the best British films of the last 20 years IMHO
sjk2008
Dead Mans Shoes probably one of the best British films of the last 20 years IMHO I agree, a truly awesome film. Paddy Consadine is brilliant in that film!
razza699
Agree Dead Mans shoes was a delight
Yard Dog
Shane Meadows is quality. However, This Is England is gash. Edited September 8, 2010 by Ackey
OldhamSheridan
I struggle to say anything new here. Dead Mans Shoes is a truely excellent film. If anyone needs convincing by this far down the thread though... A Room for Romeo Brass is also brill. This is England - meh. Wish I'd saved my money rather than buying it on DVD. NB. Watched a short film directed by Paddy Considine (Dog Altogether). It was a bit poor to say the least.

slurms mckenzie
The film was strewn with factual inaccuracies and was blatantly miscast with a variety of different accents.
oafcprozac
Ooh, I thought that were a bit good myself. I thought the first episode was pretty poor but like the opening act in any film or play it can take time to get going. Last night was very good I thought and i'm looking forward to next week now.... beag_teeets
Just finished it. Hmmm, not one to watch with the parents or the vicar. When you think of all the dross on the telly, it is fantastic to get little bits of quality like this. I need a shower now though to wash the grime off.
