Oldham v Bournemouth

Recommended Posts

I am looking forward to this for many reason.

1,Bournemouth have started this season really well under a young manager age 32 year old

2, There got some good players who will one day end up in premi league the likes off Rhoys Wiggins,Josh McQuoid and Jason Pearce.

The danger man for them are Steven Flecter and Josh MQuoid who filling the gap in the place off Brett Pittman

And it will hard task for oldham and Eddie Howe who has got his team playing big time and taken vital win this season.

We'll win.

Not a meltdown. A much more encouraging day out than the final score suggests.

Okay Opnions.....our own defensive hiccups...

Lets see if the team can pick themselves up. I am not overly worried about the loss - hell we are going to lose the odd one (cough, cough)

My main concern is the lack of goals inside the penalty box and from our two upfront men too. Maybe this is the game where the partnership gels and they bag a few.

can't wait now.... gonna dig he waterproofs, thermals and hip flask out as me thinks its gonna be wild one on Sat. ooooooooooo bring it on....

Need a win, doesn't need to be pretty but we've not won for over a month (Since Notts County or 5 games), we need to make sure this blip doesn't develop further. I'm going for a much needed manky 1-0 with Feeney finally bagging and Gregan getting MOM.

Swine....lol....but was it from our striker?

So prozac, an "ugly" win on sat then?

Winning at home is a must and we have dropped the points from the last two home games.

Its going to be tight, tough division and an interesting ride to boot. Hold on to you hats everyone the OAFC rollercoaster is about to set off.

I'd take us scoring early on from an own goal if it meant we won. 12 points from 7 games is play-off form, out of the teams we've played we've had 2 who will be up there (Charlton and Posh), only Tranmere will struggle (although Yeovil and Notts County will be bottom half).

Bit of info for you- when Beckett played his full season for us, he got 18 goals, he didn't open his account until the 28th of Spetember and by Christmas day that was the only goal he had scored. We did OK because the likes of Porter and Killen got a few. When the midfield is scoring goals (3 of them have 2), the forwards don't need to score as much. It would be great if Feeney and the Tank could score on Saturday but at the moment I'd take both of them having a mare if it means we win. Since the tank has a bit of a Heskey-esque quality about him I can't see him getting 20 goals in any season, and if he did the team he's playing for will have a cracker.

Killen scored 2 all season. Lidds was the Talisman, he had 11 before getting injured in January. Beckett scored his 2nd on Boxing day and scored another 16 between then and the final day. Don't forget Warney had 8 by the beginning of December too. Porter was on 8 too. I see what you are saying, spread the goals around, i've always been an advocate of that. We won the League in 1991 yet our top-scorer 'only' scored 18, but we scored 83 League goals!

Spreading goals round better.. then not relying on just one player like we did with abbott last season..

Only one of our strikers i could see realistically getting close to 20 goals this season was Brooke.. has looked better and better and more like a striker everytime seen him play.. he's already back in the gym doing running etc.. so hopefully another 1 or 2 months and he'll be back chipping in with goals...

Excellent news, fingers, toes and every other appendage crossed that he makes a full recovery and is pressing hard for a place.

I very much wanted him to be starting games for us and scoring and much preferred him to Eaves too.

See I forgot about Liddle and Warne and didn't bother checking how many Killen got (although his 2 goals did get us 4 points). That brings me on to another point Swansea were only a point (plus goal difference) of the play-offs last season but only scored 40 goals. Feeney and the Tank could get less than 10 goals each, but if those goals get us over 40 points not many people will remember how many goals they scored as we will probably be in the play-offs. I'd much rather the strikers get 18 goals and 40 points from them than get 35 goals and only 35 points from them.

2nd time you've used that stat...means little really...didn't let in 5 goals once last season. Saturday was the complete opposite to Penney and it cost us...over-ambitious at 2-0 up (something good for Dickov to learn) where a Penney style approach (of sorts) after going 2 up would have seen us probably go on and win. Any team needs a balance to be successful. I hope we score 3 times as many goals as last season...I just hope we don't let in 3 times as many though!

As for Saturday, quite an important one...need a win big time if we want to rekindle some of the early season bulldog spirit. Coz we're sure as hell going to need it for 2 tough trips away following. Brighton and Wednesday (altho maybe a good time to be catching them) away will be 2 of our toughest trips this season...don't win on Saturday and I can see us being 7 without a win come a week on Tuesday. And that's something we never did last season either!!!

Think we'll bounce back well at home. I just hope Gregan is back. As well as Jarrett might be playing and whatnot, Gregan is our captain and the best centre back in the squad. I'm happy for Jarrett to fill in when needed or to add another pair of legs to the midfield when we're trying to consolidate, but when can't leave a centre back like Gregan stewing on the bench, he might be short of fitness but he'll get that back as he plays, Gregan doesn't rely on pace so fitness isn't going to effect his game as much. If he tires, towards the end of the game, bring Jarrett on.

I doubt we would of gone 2-0 up with penney in charge.. Before all slates me saying we might, i did say doubt

Think on saturday we will need a goal before half time, soon as possible really to settle our nerves.. as longer we play more nervous the players will become..

No your right, we wouldn't have gone 2-0 up under Penney in fact I doubt we would have had 2 shots it would have seen us go 2 down and play damage limitation from there seeing us home to a nice safe 2-0 defeat. Sometimes when the game dictates you have to be sensible and shut up shop but Penney played that way only and hated goals which made for a throughly depressing experience all round. If conceding a few every now and again is the price of us actually daring to stand up and have a go then fine I will take that.

I think the point that GL and Rob OAFC are trying to make is that, when we travelled to a team who will be "in the mix" come May, Penney was a believer of ten men behind the ball.

True, against some teams that happened like Southampton and Charlton. At Leeds, I don't think that happened...we just weren't good enough. Same goes for Norwich where we simply didn't have enough players fit (that game was the most injury affected of the season.) At Uddersfield, we went for them and were the better side and battered them but couldn't get the ball over the line and lost. At Swindon, we lost 4-2. While last season was at times turgid and a frustration, there are very well documented reasons for it...rather than simply the way the manager wanted us to play.

As it is, in 3 games time we could (without any stretch of the imagination) be 7 games without a win (should we fail on Saturday and with Brighton & Weds away to follow.) And we are far from having injuries bite, suspensions accumulate, players badly dip in form, winter weather hit, games called off etc. We've got a nice little return of points to go towards staying up from our opening games. People can keep on harking back to last season all they want and say how much better it is over Penneys reign as it looks a little prettier and we've a few more goals to cheer. But keep being hit for 5 or being winless and then I hope everyone takes much comfort in some of the "comparative" rubbish being spouted now. They might well need it!

We could do with a win on Saturday...either the Penney way or the Dickov way, for me, I really couldn't give a shiny s*** how.
