Alec1954
This is a good link for anyone who fancies wasting 15 minutes looking at the stats of who played for us, how many times and number of goals scored. Not sure how up to date it is..... http://www.neilbrown.newcastlefans.com/oldham/oldham.htm

Harry Dowds Green Shirt
It's interesting looking back to the Frizzell & Royle era's and you see the stability in the teams and the list of players with appearances in 3 figures is quite staggering. With the constant changing of managers in todays game I can't see that number of players making 3 figure appearances for clubs/us at the lower levels today. Sure we'll get the odd 1 or 2 such as Pogs, Lidds and Eardley, but they will be in the minority. Looking back to Ritchie's tenure you also see the stability he brought with players such as (John) Sheidan, Duxbury, (Scott) McNiven, Rickers, Allott, Corazzin, Eyers, Eyre (2nd stint) Garnett, (Richard) Graham, Haining, (Andy) Holt (Gary) Kelly and Tipton all going on to make over 100 appearances for the Latics. That continuity, is probably the single most important factor in us not dropping all the way down to division 4. It makes you think, what has freedom of contract really brought to the game? For all the benefits of freedom of contract, at least most players had stability in their lives unlike todays nomads. It also made me think, where might we go if we kept 7, 8, 9 or 10 players who were to go on and make over 100 appearances for us, as Friz, Royle and Stitch managed to do? Now theres a challenge for messrs Dickov & Taggert Players in 3 figures for appearances in the Friz /Royle era (some spread over both magagers time) with goals scored in brackets are: - BEBBINGTON Keith 237 38 BELL Graham 170 9 BLAIR Ronnie 295 22 BOWIE Jim 333 37 CHAPMAN Les 263 20 CLEMENTS Kenny 206 2 CRANSTON Bill 100 2 DOWD Harry 121 0 EDWARDS Paul 112 7 GROVES Alan 140 1 HALOM Vic 123 43 HEATON Paul 136 28 HENRY Tony 190 2 HICKS Keith 242 11 HOLT David 142 1 HOOLICKIN Garry 211 2 HURST John 170 2 KEEGAN Ged 144 5 McDONNELL Peter 137 0 McNEILL Alan 170 19 McVITIE George 113 19 OGDEN Chris 128 0 PALMER Roger 461 141 PLATT John 109 0 ROBINS Ian 220 40 SHAW David 214 91 STEEL Jim 108 24 WHITTLE Maurice 312 39 WOOD Ian 525 22 WYLDE Rodger 113 51 YOUNG Alan 122 30 ADAMS Neil 138 23 ATKINSON Paul 176 12 BARLOW Andy 261 5 BARRETT Earl 183 7 BERNARD Paul 112 18 DONACHIE Willie 169 3 FLEMING Craig 164 1 GERRARD Paul 119 1 GORAM Andy 195 0 GRAHAM Richard 150 14 HALLE Gunnar 188 17 HALLWORTH Jon 174 0 HENRY Nick 273 19 HOLDEN Rick 189 28 IRWIN Denis 167 4 - did he really only score 4 goals JOBSON Richard 189 10 MARSHALL Ian 170 36 McCARTHY Sean 140 42 McDONOUGH Darren 183 14 MILLIGAN Mike 279 23 REDMOND Steve 205 4 RITCHIE Andy 243 84 SHARP Graeme 109 30 WRIGHT Tommy 124 24 The total transfer fees for the above players was in excess of £9 million. Lookers_Carl
Paul Gerrard scored? I think what happened there was re one of the goals we scored, it was a scramble to the extent that no friger knows who scored it, so they just give it to gerrard.
