Oldham Boro gearing up for new era

Wednesday 6th October 2010

OLDHAM Boro are now planning for a new era, with a move to a new ground and the establishment of a youth set up being the club’s twin targets in the next few years.

The dark days of last season have been overcome, and Boro Secretary Dave Shepherd says that the support the committee had from around the league was a source of great comfort in their times of trouble, the Vodkat League’s website is reporting.

“I think we have got over the hurdle we were faced with last season, and to be honest it would have been a lot easier to walk away than carry on. But I have to say that everyone was absolutely brilliant with us. The League Management Committee, the clubs in the league, everyone has been fantastic.

“We have had no remarks thrown at us, everyone has been supportive and understanding, and we have been overwhelmed by the support we have had.

“A recent example of that was the help we had from Abbey Hey. We drew our game in the FA Vase there, and the replay was obviously scheduled to be at our place, but the rugby league club we share with had first call on the ground that night and we couldn’t play there.

“So we asked Abbey Hey if they could stage it, and at short notice they did and were absolutely brilliant with us. They couldn’t do enough for us and through the league website I’d like to thank them on behalf of Oldham Boro FC for their assistance. If every club had the commitment of the committee at Abbey Hey, they’d be very lucky, because the guys at that club were brilliant.”

Although Boro will be playing at the Whitebank Stadium for the foreseeable future, the arrangement now is that they are tenants of Oldham Roughyeds Rubgy League Club, and Shepherd says they have begun the process of looking at possible sites for a new ground in the town.
