Frankly Mr Shankly
http://www.oldhamathletic.co.uk/page/NewsU...2178414,00.html Pitchforks at the ready! Personally, I think given our soft underbelly with set pieces, having Gregan in the side would eradicate a lot of that. Maybe it's a case of getting him off the wage bill so Dickov can bring in another player or two?
oafcprozac
http://www.oldhamathletic.co.uk/page/NewsU...2178414,00.html I think it's a brave decision, but if we continue to give silly goals away at set-pieces then this might bite PD on the arse. Shame that Gregan's time here is coming to such an inglorious end. His initial loan spell and his form last season were some of the finest performances of a defender at BP since Jobbo and Barrett. steveoafc
Hope there's a recall request included because if either hazell or m'voto get injured then he'll be needed. Not so sure i rate jarrett as a centre back,i'd much rather have gregan in there. Hopefully it's mainly for him to regain full fitness. I think it's clear to see he's not in PD's plans, we've had injury and suspensions at the back and he's had ten mins v Orient all season. Speaks volumes imo, and they seem to rate young Rodders, preferring him to Greegs in the JPT game. Sadly I think this is Greegs' Goodbye from BP. oafc0000
I would imagine he was one of higher earners and if he really is fourth in the pecking order then it really isn't a surprise is it ? He's been a great servant to the club but it's clear Dickov favours a fresh, youthful approach instead. Of course by doing that leaves you more prone to silly mistakes at the back. It will be sad if this is greegs bowing out from BP....he was player of the season by a country mile last term and we owe him a big thanks for keeping us in this division. Lags
I'd wager Gregan has been in the manager's office asking for games whilst this is his swan song season (possibly one more to come, somewhere). The manager wouldn't promise him that and offered him the loan out option. Latics have been good for Gregan and Gregan has been good for Latics at the back end of his career. I would hope he has fond memories of his time here. Hope he gets fixed up soon, surely a league two side would take a punt. Just how much of his wages they'd pay I ain't sure. Still he took a big pay cut to stay here the last pre season prior to this one. Edited October 8, 2010 by Lags

MaskedOwl
Not too bothered by this. Surely one of higher earners and coming to the end of his playing days. In the club's best interests overall IMO.
HarryBosch
I can see this is a forward thinking move as Dickov obviously wants youth and to build for the future but I'd take undoubted, guaranteed quality over youth and potential any day of the week. Obviously PD thinks differently. And I can understand him wanting the player who probably has the most influence on the rest of the squad out of the way although Gregans never struck me as the rabble rousing type? M'Voto and Gregan would be my preferred CB pairing. Looks like the managers first big mistake this one to me. We'll see.
mattsgrandad
Alas the footballers lot! - Today's hero soon becomes tomorrow's forgotten man. I, too feel that we've probably seen the last of Sean. He needs to play football this season otherwise he'll struggle to find any interest in him for what remains of his career. As previous posters say - best for him and best for Latics (financially at least). Good luck Sean - if ever a Latics player deserved the fans thanks, you are surely that player! HarryBosch
I still can't help thinking the last thing you'd want to do working on a shoestring is get rid of last seasons best player.
drphibes
Abbott was on a big wage and lacked pace and he was shown the door and it seems Gregan will suffer the same fate. I agree that Gregan has been one of the best defenders we have had at BP for many years. Good luck Sean.
losesome
Well 3rd year running the "player of the year" kiss of death has struck - One or two candidates for player of the year this year i can think off ?? Perhaps we could have team of the year this year and shift most of Penny lot out in one go

Lookers_Carl
he will be with shez soon I have also heard this But at the end of the day, we have only seen Gregan once this season. PD and GT see him in training every day. It will be a sad loss for us, but its the managers decision, and however unpopular it may be, a decision he has every right to make. slurms mckenzie
Greegan was and always will be 100% committed, and one of our top players since we've been in this division. A true Oldham player who sticks his head where others stick their boots. Best of luck to Greegan wherever he ends up, whether with us or someone else. Bristolatic
I think it's pretty fair to say that Greegs is probably still not 100% fit. With the pounding his body has taken over the years, recovery from an achilles injury at 36 is hard to overcome. We'll certainly miss his presence and 'no nonsense' defending, but I would be concerned that he has lost even more pace and could get ripped apart by young, pacy strikers. There's no doubt he will still do a good job somewhere for another season. From where he lives, I wouldn't be surprised is someone like Bratfud or Rovrum went for him, but maybe Chesterfield is a more likely option. Wherever you go Sean, a bloody great big thank you for what you have done at Latics. You've been a true, committed rock that we couldn't have done without. It's already been said several times that we would most likely have been relegated without you last season. Hope you come back in some capacity, for a testimonial at least. Good luck, big fella. (Pity you could never head a ball from corners in the oppo box like you did in ours, though )
PlayItLivo
My arsé Mvoto and Jarrett are better than Gregan at the back. I think Paul Dickov has adopted "I'll do it with my players but not necessarily the best players" mentality. Gregan deserves a run of games after last season, he's out captain and best defender, it's shocking how he's being discarded like this. We're leaking dodgy goals because we're playing a big dope like Mvoto at the back, who has all the physical attributes to be a defender but lacks the intelligence and reading of the game. And because we're playing a centre midfielder at the back instead of an actual centre back. It's baffling. Paul Dickov is losing my support, that doesn't mean I'm calling for his head, far from it, that means with two of my favourite and the two best players we had last season being shipped out and replaced with far inferior alternatives, add to that the results Penney would have been massacred for (drawing with Leyton, Yeovil, conceding last minute winners) I'm feeling less motivated to go to Boundary Park.
