info on chris m***e....

spoke to a bloke today who knows, or knew, him very well.

he trained as an accountant, was given menial accounting tasks to do for 3 or so years and then was given the job of doing the accounts of a failing company.

The MD of this company then said to him that he was looking to sell on the business and retire and that he wanted him to market the company for him.

He looked into it all, did his research and managed to sell the company and got a very good deal out of it - but the new owners would only buy if he stayed on as MD = TOREX

All this at the age of 26!

Obviously then for the next 10-12 years he built the company up, along comes iSOFT and then the real money started rolling for him and torex.

He then buys Latics.

He remarked that all our players in the 02/03 season 'were sh1te apart from 1 or 2 and Dowie is a great guy'

Although he could easily afford to run us, he put us up sh1t creek because he was of the view (having also trebled the wage bill to about £4m) that he would never back anything unless it made a profit, even if it was only £1 profit. He wrote to all employees of Latics at the time stating that he wasn't funding us any more, a new company was taking over, this is your wage from now on, take it or leave it.

He has, according to this person whom I spoke to, made a considerable number of fraud offences and owes £80m to the Government and various parties.

He maintains he is innocent but this person seemed to know categorically that that isnt the case.

He cannot set foot in his home in Oxford as the police will arrest him and the same applies to his villa in Majorca. He is living on his yacht in Majorca as the police cannot arrest him on water, hopping from boat to boat in the daytime to do what he has to do etc.

that is the story in a nutshell of that pr1ck!

One point, Torex and Isoft were only in talks in July 2003 and so they would have merged after he got rid of us.

As per the Independent

The last I heard of Chris Moore was a year or so ago (googled but havent found it yet), some bloke was up in court saying that Moore had tried to defraud him out of his company. I remember it was also stated that the Serious Fraud Office were still investigating Moore for his previous form.

Just realised I was good mates with a lad who played centre half for my junior school team. Not seen him for 31 years, but googling Chris Moore and Torex/iSoft comes up with the name Tim Whiston.

He's in court next year for something dubious that happened after the Torex/iSoft merger.

The OP has omitted Torex's shares plummeting to 25% of their peak value compared to when CM took over at latics. I'd suspect losing 3/4 of his wealth, combined with a divorce from his wife were the main reasons he pulled the plug. He was throwing too much money around on wages to seriously be worrying about a few less able players. Until these 2 events happened that is.

He was reckoned to be worth £200m at one point (not sure how credible that was but...), so spending £6m (which is what he wrote off) probably wasn't a big issue for him. Addingg £10m more wouldn't leave him destitute.

When your £200m has lost £6m (to latics) then becomes £50m, and then your wife says goodbye and hands you a divorce writ asking for £25m, I think spending £10m on a club you're not even a genuine fan of becomes a different decision.

That was pretty much what I heard, although I understand that his personal wealth was much less than £200m when he bought latics - the finger banded around at the time was that he worth around £35m. Then, the crash in the equity makets caused by 9/11 pretty much halved that, at the same time as a seperation/divorce. Plus, his enthusiasm waned a bit after the death of his brother in law anyway.
