Football, Legal Whores, Legal Weed, Belgium Chocolate and Belgium Beer.... It would be the greatest World Cup ever!!!

The problem with the joint Holland and Belgium bid is the government won't give some of the guarantees FIFA usually want so it won't be going there. I was reading the other night that the Spain / Portugal bid is actually the favourite as it stands! Which shocked me a bit, with Spain mostly being a :censored: hole (including the Stadiums) and likely to be bankrupt by 2018.

Im sure none of the joint bids have ever meant to have had a good chance. Im sure i read/heard somewhere FIFA are really reluctant to have joint hosts for some reason, not sure though??

Anyway i would love a world cup in England, though saying that it il be in 2018 and il be just 30 then and probably at a time in my life when i could easily afford it and if im not tied down by then (or half way there) it wont be too difficult to bugger off for a month. I would prefer it then to be in a foreign country as ive never been abroad with England (or any team for that matter ) and i wouldnt mind doing Europe. Don't fancy Russia (though i feel they will get it, purely because we have shot ourselves in the foot and i dont think they have ever hosted a major tournament before?) due to what i hear of bad transport links amongst other things, so i won't be too despondent if one of the other two bids get it!

As for 2022 i wouldnt mind any of them bids and if i could go to one of them, at least for a portion of the tournament. Got a sneaky feeling Quatar might get it you know, seems so unlikely it could happen, and looking at what someone posted of their bid it sounds quite interesting what they will do i.e legacy and heat problems.

I'm not sure why people are discussing the merits of each country. If we have greased the right palms we'll get it, if we haven't we won't.

I'm guessing Spain/Portugal and Qatar - as Qatar have thee money and have done a deal with the Spanish already. Hence there's the money to bribe the FIFA decision makers from Qatar, and nearly enough votes in the bag already.

Thank god for the iplayer , cant believe I missed it after all that

It was a bit :censored: to be honest... The guy literal had a list of payments to various companies and had it on "good authority" that they where bribes. Basically it seemed like he had feck all concrete. Just a big bunch of unexplained payments.

Overall I think it was probably very damaging and very pointless. The program should of aired next year or something. It certainly isn't doing the bid any good.

This whole "bidding" lark gets right on my pip. FIFA and IOC delegates and executive members having so much power is an obvious invitation for backhanders. They can have their games wherever they want, but if it's going to be like that, all right-thinking folk should just avoid them like the plague.

The world cup makes money, which is good for some in football, the Olympics costs stacks, which is bad for everybody. I can't imagine why the Prime Minister, Prince William and David Beckham would want anything to do with the whole sordid business. Totally baffled.

It's good for FIFA. An independent study has been carried out for FIFA by management consultancy firm McKinsay, looking at the five major revenue streams that a World Cup generates: ticketing, TV and media rights, sponsorship, hospitality and merchandise/licensing.

The study showed that England's bid comprehensively outstripped its 2018 competitors with a 100 per cent mark, which would give FIFA the largest profit margin.

So it comes down to a question of are the FIFA delegates voting to maximise income for:

(i) FIFA;

or, allegedly,

(ii) themselves?

Not like you to complain about a corrupt vote...

P.S. I sincerely hope we don't get it. For a start, how embarrassing will it be for us to go on about being the inventors of the game and then go out in the group stages...

We're talking about eight years from now, when the full benefits of St. George's Park, the National Brewing Capital's National Football Centre, will be reaped. B)

So speaks the minister for Propaganda in Burtonia.

I doubt we will see any benefit in 8 years from a project which has just been given the green light to be started. Plus, why is Burton the national brewing capital?

Plus, why is Burton the national brewing capital?

Well, you see, once upon a time there were more breweries in Burtonia than any other town in the country.

Unfortunately they're more or less all owned by Bass now and produce nowt but chemical filled rubbish.

So it used to be the national brewery capital but isn't necessarily anymore?

.... why is Burton the national brewing capital?

Burton-on-Trent is the Capital of the National Forest, in addition to having the National Brewery Centre and, as you know, is soon to have the National Football Centre.

But I digress. You ask about it being the National Brewing Capital. Well, as it's the Global Brewing Capital then the National bit follows like night follows day. There is so much on the uniqueness of Burton for those who care to read it about its pedigree.

Timeline of Burton’s brewing History:

Although brewing commenced in Burton in 1002, the first reference to it being the British brewing capital was in 1777.

If anyone is still in doubt and has never visited the town, it smells of beer (or Marmite), has brewery buildings all over its centre, has a League football club known as The Brewers and it still has the magic ingredient - spring water on gypsum beds.

But hang on the largest brewing company in the world, Anheuser-Busch InBev (which includes Stella (Interbrew), Budweiser, Beck's, Boddington's, Bass etc.) has 3 breweries in this country.

Now which one of these is in Burton?

http://www.inbev.co.uk/Our_Breweries.htm

Oh right none, face it you have lost your crown.

All together now, "Where's your title gone"

Here's a clue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRqns2xtTYc...feature=related

You appear to be confusing the world’s largest group of breweries with the world renown brewing centre, which goes back almost to when Adam was a lad.

How could anyone believe that the Magor, Samlesbury and Stag Breweries, spread across three locations in England and Wales ,are in the same league as Molson Coors Brewery (formerly Allied Breweries and Bass), Marston's Brewery and the leader of micro-breweries Burton Bridge.

The recirculating fermentation system invented in the 1830s is known as the Burton Union not the Newport Union, Malmesbury Union or London Mortlake Union.

All together now, "You thought you had scored, you were wrong!"
