So if you were Latics manager, what would you do?

Recommended Posts

Here's the rules of the game:

You have your current squad.

You're allowed 2 new signings or players you can bring in on loan for the season.

You can sell one player only for a fee of £350,000 and use half that money to bring in a third signing.

You're not allowed to pay anybody a decent wage.

What would you do to turn this side in to play-off challengers?

I'd try and keep them up, in my opinion that would be a success.

Get rid of Taggart and bring some coaching experience in......I really don't see what he brings to the table except alot of aimless shouting usually after conceding.

You can't afford to have two rookies cutting their teeth at the same time, Dickov keeps going on about getting the basics right, well, what the hell happened today.

We should have played three centre backs today and a five man midfield yet we once again go gung ho with two totally ineffective wingers.......why we persist with these tactics God only knows....we are so so predictable and our opponents know exactly what to expect!

We were being given the run around last week by Rochdale and if it weren't for Trotman I'm sure we'd have lost that game. Their midfield run by Gary Jones had so much more movement than our lot who only started to compete when they went down to 10.

Tactically I think we are a bloody shambles and we desperately need experience both on and off the pitch!!

I pretty much agree with post. Its obvious that managers sus us out and change tatics at halftime.

You realise Taggart was at Leicester coaching there don't you? And how can you possibly comment about his abilty to his job when you don't see what he does? Only Dickov and pyhsio would be left then, if you can provide evidence that Taggart is usless fair enough.

Don't just quote the amount of goals we have let in because United have one of the best GK coaches in the world and yet De Gea still looks dodgy.

We have a manager and coach who both played at the highest level in their respective positions...yet we can't defend and we can't score goals. Just because you've been a good player doesn't mean you'll be a good coach.

I can't fault Dickov's enthusiasm for the game and his team ought to give him 110% as he did in his time as a player but I can't help notice that he disputes every decision from the dugout and argues constantly with the fourth official.

All I am saying is we need to get an old head in to harness that enthusiasm and help with tactics, at the moment we just seem to be lacking both leadership and direction out on the pitch.

I wouldn't mind so much letting in 4 goals if we were creating and scoring at the other end, but we're not and one goal from open play so far tells it's own story.

Again Taggart has been coaching for a while now, he clearly knows what he is doing otherwise Leicester would never have hired/kept him. The one goal from open doesn't tell the full story, as we have had four pens this season. I've seen the two home ones and they were both goalscoring oppotunites, today Ried was brought down by the keeper so it safe to assume that it was another oppotunity. Those last ditch fouls aren't made there is a good chance the ball was going to hit the back of the net anyway, so instead of one it becomes three and maybe four (dpending on Yeovil not seen it).

Expirence is not needed for Dickov as he will only learn by his own mistakes, he is not a child and doesn't need someone to tell him what to do. I can't think of a single club where a chaperone has worked, it undermines the manager and the coaching staff and leaves the older manager looking like a washed up has been with no real power. This leaves an embarrssing situation for all involved and blows up in everyone's face, Dickov and Taggart aren't the problem because the issues at this club stem from social and financial.

I do feel the tactics should be altered from time to time to find which works best. I know he changes his starting line up abit mostly due to injuries and suspensions but it's pretty clear to me and others that his tactics don't work.

He needs to talk to someone and find out what to do in these situations, he needs to do this privately and by his own accord. I don't think Corney telling him to find some help would do anything but harm there friendship and make Dickov feel slightly unwanted.

Something desperately needs changing. I think we have players capable of getting us out of the mess do hopefully they will prove there worth!!!

I'd stop bigging up our opposition every week and concentrate on playing to our strengths. Surely doesnt help the players when the Thursday press conference all he does is bang on about the other side and how good they are. Seems we play 'one of the strongest teams in the division' every week.

Being realistic we wont win too many games this season, i'll be delighted to stay in the league.
