Sheffield Wednesday JPT

Recommended Posts

Megson bent the rules a little last night around the strength of his team.

Substituting a perfectly fit goalkeeper in the first minute and two other "tactical" changes before the 20 minute mark are nothing short of contempt for the rules of the competition. 3 players missing penalties in the shootout after a goalless draw also raises an eyebrow.

Over 3,500 turned up for the game. Sheffield Wednesday's actions are a major insult to every fan who made the effort.

Hopefully the Football League will find a way to throw the book at Wednesday and Megson over this. If they don't value the JPT then the punishment should be a significant fine and, perhaps, a league points penalty (suspended) to discourage any such actions in future. Perhaps refusing them any chance of a bye in future JPT competitions would also be a point well made.

Not often I say this but I fully agree with Megson.

I detest with a passion the rule that says clubs have to play their strongest team or players that have played 75% of league games or whatever it is. I've been to enough of these games and will continue to go regardless of the team put out. In fact I'd rather the clubs be given the opportunity to play the kids and save a few players for the league, it would be great to see if players like Burns, Mellor..etc.. can make the grade. Far better than seeing a nonsense match being played out in 8th full stadiums or worse.

Stupid competition with stupid rules. If we go onto win the bloody thing then fine but I'd rather we got out of it early with no silly bookings or injuries.

Megsons interview made him sound a bit of an arse, "We thank Johnstons Paint for their great support blah blah and then makes 3 subs within 20 minutes, remember Sheff Wed fans went mental at the changes and they paid their good money to watch a game of football under rules the club had signed up to.

If we didnt have the rules and clubs could play a weakened side it would end up a reserves cup. They wouldnt get the kind of sponsorship JP or Sky would bring never mind a huge pay day if you make the final.

Sheff Wed were quick to accept the JPT/Sky money and then on national TV bend the rules, I hope the FA give them a fine and refund the fans who made the trip.

I was hoping Bradford would stuff em and although it took pens (jones was a peach) justice done for me.

If we didn't have so many p**s pot cups, maybe a few more might be intersted in league games, I'm sure our attendances suffer when we have had a midweek cup game

Debating the existance of the competition is one thing. Personally I think there's a place for it, but I understand the other side of the argument.

But what Megson's done here is to show contempt for the rules, contempt for the sponsors and, above all, contempt to the paying fans. All in order to make some minescule gain in the League.

Even if he's stuck to the letter of the rules of the competition, he has clearly brought the game in to disrepute. It's a form of cheating. It shouldn't be tolerated.

I agree and I've been saying for years that the competition should be scrapped.

It's loss-making for almost any club who doesn't make the final. Many clubs don't care about it anyway. It adds to the fixture pile-up at a time when the majority of lower league sides are struggling for squad depth and don't want to risk injuries and suspensions for games that actually matter. Even if you win it, where's the glory in winning a cup competition for Leagues One and Two, when most clubs don't give a :censored: until they see a Wembley appearance on the horizon?

We must have by far the worst record in this of any team. It extends back to the 80's too, our record was awful in the Zenith, Full Members cup or whatever that other :censored:e competition was called.

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest if they jacked it in. They should replace it with the Anglo Scottish Cup.
