the_mighty_bosh
It could be a very tough game to win but one that I doubt we'll lose. I'd be very disappointed if both teams go 4-4-2 and we get outplayed because from what I've seen we have better quality players individually than they have. But when I saw them they went 4-1-4-1 with defensive wingers at home, which certainly wasn't expansive but they didn't allow many chances at all and their centre-backs won everything in the air. If they play the same way against us I could easily see us getting frustrated. I reckon this is a game in which we need to see the best of Morais and Taylor. From what I've seen/heard so far they haven't influenced games anywhere near as much as they should be doing. They need to produce more trickery and quality in either central or wide positions to break down stubborn and organised teams.
beag_teeets
I'm concerned that if we play Mellor at left back then he will be targeted by them and got at. I've not seen him play there and am more than happy to be proved wrong with a stellar performance from him. Maybe 3-5-2 would be a good idea but then we are changing our whole system which could backfire and all the team underperform? Either way, we have a problem at leftback tomorrow so Dickov has to try something, probably the safest bet is to play Mellor, we might get away with it tomorrow but with Black out for five weeks and Diallo out for one or three games the problem is there until we either sign a left back or get Diallo back. We could put Lee there and Winchester at RB, probably my least preferred option as Lee will take time to adjust to that side and Winchester might struggle to readjust to playing RB after his spell in the middle. I hope we don't put Diamond there, I have never been a fan of sticking a centre back at full back. Over to you Paul.
BP1960
Mellor if given licence will be very effective at left full back, he's strong and good going forward - with the added dimension of being something of a set play specialist. I can see Stevenage giving away lots of free kicks, so this may work to the Latics advantage. What we don't want to see is Mellor restricted to his own half, we won't see the best of him that way. GlossopLatic
Id like to see both full back push on and be given the licence to get forward today its the type of game we need to play an expansive game see taylor and morais come off the wings and get in the gap between defence and midfield and see the full backs bomb on into the vacated space. rosa
Taylor LB, Mellor LAM? Oh dear Christ no. Taylor's terrifying to watch when he plays at full back. His tackling's improved over the last couple of seasons but i still wouldn't trust him in the defence.
