From the First Whistle - Walsall v Oldham

Paul Dickov's men travel to the Bescot Stadium tonight to face a side who, like Latics, have amassed eight points from the opening seven games of this season.

Latics have a growing injury list with stand-in captain Zander Diamond and Filipe Morais joining club captain Dean Furman, Paul Black and Josh Parker on the sidelines, as well as Bradley Diallo who still has two games of a three-match suspension to serve.

David Mellor seems likely to return to the starting line-up, to take the left-back berth with Nathan Clarke switching back into the centre of defense to fill in for Diamond. Kieron Lee will revert back to his natural right-back position.

Loan signing Robbie Simpson will be hoping for a first start in place of Morais but Dickov may well stick with Carl Winchester. Shefki Kuqi will be looking to score for the third consecutive game since signing for Latics on deadline day.

French winger Claude Gnakpa looks set to miss out for Walsall, after being substituted with an injury late on in Saturday's defeat at Notts County.

The Saddlers' home record in the league so far this season is W1 D1 L1.

Latics squad: Cisak, M'voto, Wesolowski, Diamond, Clarke, Morais, Reid, Adeyemi, Smith, Brooke, Tarkowski, Taylor, Lee, Millar, Winchester, Gerrard, Mellor, Kuqi.

Predicted starting line-up:

Cisak

Lee Clarke M'voto Mellor

Simpson Wesolowski Adeyemi Taylor

Kuqi Reid

Scoreline prediction:

Walsall 0-1 Latics

Oldham deserved their win-only surprise it wasn't by a bigger scoreline tbh.Latics defence coped very well with what little Walsall offered. Your men were lining up on the left to slot home for the goal. Could have been any one from 3 or 4. That was a vile performance by Saddlers. Shockingly poor and clueless.Ruben foolish to slot the ball into the empty net after the whistle had been blown and a needless booking for him.

Practice makes perfect.

If it reminds him what scoring from open play is all about, I'm for it!

Thanks for your honest assessment. Good to have opposition supporters on the board.

Cheers O4U. Oldham had a few shots and worked well for each other. Periods of play were tit for tat but Latics certainly wanted it more. Was hoping that Walsall would use the ball better in the second half but our crossing was woeful. Walsall resorting to hoofing the ball forward with your tall centre back easily winning most was a one-way ticket to boredom. The 150 or so visiting fans made them selves heard on occasions and were rewarded accordingly. Walsall booed off at the end and rightly so.
