BP1960
Latics reserves went 3 goals up in the opening 18 minutes with goals from Smith, Winchester and Morias. They took their foot off the gas after that and allowed a spirited young Burnley side to level it 3 -3, and indeed could have lost the match in the end but for a great save from Latics keeper Dale Connor. Excellent performance from left full back Bradley Diallo, who after this must start on Saturday. James Tarkowski was commanding and classy until he blotted his copybook by mistiming a tackle for a penalty. Morais was frustrating doing some good work then losing the ball in possession on many occasions. Of the other first team squad members Smith was Smith, Mellor was subdued, Miller, Burns and and Hughes weren't strong enough on the ball, Carr was steady enough but sometimes caught out for pace. It looks to me like Carl Winchester has a real stamina problem and was badly flagging with 20 minutes to go, he needs to go on a strength and stamina building programme IMO if he is to become a first team regular. Duxbury will I'm sure get the message across players can't stroll through games, you have to work hard throughout.
