Sam779
Firstly, sorry for our idiots in the corner as some of you were leaving near the end. Anyway, I thought you were all over is in the first half - at least the first 35-40 minutes. You stopped us playing and gave us no time on the ball; restricting us to long passes, not that we need much convincing! I felt we came into our own in the second and began to outplay you, not sure if it was down to fitness and desire or a combination of the both. I had a typical Wenger view of the penalty so not sure if it was or not. Our first goal was worthy of winning a match though. Anyway I won't harp on an infiltrate your forum any longer, good luck for the rest of the season - I sincerely hope you make the play offs. The injury was the turning point but boy are you a cynical team!
oafc-latics
can see why you're up there, how many 1-0's have you managed? sort of team that will just about put up with what's thrown at them, hoof it away, score a lucky goal (or a very very good one today) and hold on for the one goal win. penalty was for nothing, there was no foul at all from what i saw. i'd like to think we were pretty equal on the day, but you're right, can't argue about the first goal if you lose a match... just the second
Sam779
Cheers lads. I find it too easy to blame a ref, I did think he was a homer in the first half, but we all have our tinted specs on I guess. Hope some of you make the trip over after Easter. GlossopLatic
Cheers lads. I find it too easy to blame a ref, I did think he was a homer in the first half, but we all have our tinted specs on I guess. Hope some of you make the trip over after Easter. I can see why you think that certainly felt that way as we probably had the best of the first half and usually when your having the better of the games you usually get the better of the decisions I felt it was the linesman on the main stand side that gave the penalty and he didn't have a clue good job I wasn't sat on the front row. FFelt you were physical functional and very tight at the back like you will win lots of 1 and 2 nils and will try and bully your way out of the division very Gary Megsonesque, dare I say it not to dis simlar to the other team in sheffield who also won 2-0 at our gaffe and brought about the same amount of fans. I aint to disheartened by today if getting beat by you guys today (you will certainly be top six) means a win on tuesday night against Southend giving us a chance to go to Anfield. This is more important to us as we aint likely to go up this season and a cup run this season means we might just might be in a position next season to possibly mount somekind of a play off challenge. Lags
Very dirty niggly side Sam. Constantly fouling to enable you to re-group with every player back behind the ball. The Ref allowed it far to much. Edited December 10, 2011 by Lags
Sam779
Interesting you say that mate, don't see it from your own side. I guess it's a winning formula that doesn't look good from an oppositions point of view.
ChrisA
Interesting you say that mate, don't see it from your own side. I guess it's a winning formula that doesn't look good from an oppositions point of view. It's a blend of experience from a higher level and a manager who has also managed at a higher level. You played the percentage game at times. It's a game within the game and you do it well. Nothing particularly wrong with it, more a frustrating tactic when effectively used. Some refs may help this ;)
lancy lad
But for the ref and that cheating bastard linesman (who gave the pen and allowed Wednesday the benefit of the doubt 3 times when their attackers were at least 3 or 4 yards offside)I think we would have won today. We were by far the best team first half and we should have carried on second half but didn't. Our defending for the first goal was atrocious to say the least, I think Prutton (:censored:ing tosser he is) had 2 or 3 bites of the cherry and we should have put it in row z. Sam, its good to have an opposing fan on here not playing the billy big bollocks so fair play to you lad! All the best for the rest of the season! Sam779
Really enjoyed hearing all your thoughts. We actually thought Prutton's goal was very good, he was unlucky after attempting to go passed 2 players, then when you thought the chance had gone, he turned and finished well. It was typically a game of 2 halves, the ref was probably poor both ways and I can't speak for the lino as I was directly behind the goal. As said before, I guess on another day the result could've been quite different. You make your own luck, sometimes - were we lucky today, hmm not sure. All the best for the rest of the season! i think the offside decisions you're talking about (if theyre the ones that got everyone in the paddock annoyed) were the right calls. sat right in line, in the paddock, and both times the player was infront of the defender, but because they didnt go for the ball, or 'interfere', it's not offside, and we cleared it up anyway. said at the time though that he'd have a bigger call to make when it mattered and get it wrong. thought that was the chance that lowe was through because that looked off, but the penalty decision was shocking

I was right in line and not on one occsion of the 3 decisions I am talking about was there a question of not interfering!!! They were blatant offsides. I always tend to read our opposition forums after a game - and have had a quick look through owls talk....I'm pleased to come on here and find a balanced opinion of the match. Thanks for your post You must be an exception to the sheff wed fan rule, because reading other forums, they seem to think that there was never any doubt and that you absolutly walked the game without any trouble. Far too many fans think you are too big to play "little oldham". I've never read so much biased "we are massive" crap in all my life! I thought on reflection there was very little between the teams, but I think you just had a that little bit of extra know how, that allows teams to somehow win games from what look like stalemate situations. I thought Prutton did very well for the 1st goal, his foot was initially a bit high and some refs would have given a free kick, but then he brilliantly engineered a shooting opportunity when there didn't look to be one. The penalty was incredibly soft from a Latics point of view, and it was a very disappionting goal for us to concede. The game certainly changed when Mvoto went off as he had been our outstanding player in the game. I thought the ref generally had a shocker, not particularly biased one way or the other, just :censored:e tbh. You are a very efficient, effective and uncompromising team and I think you will probably go up on that basis.

This is actually a jibe directed at our neighbours across the city following their early season comments - please take it as a pinch of salt.
