palmer1 Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 a few days after the event i know and some wont like but if Hughes or Davies or even current player Taylor had got booked like Kuqi did against Notts County it would have its own thread about how its a disgrace how he behaved and Dickov should drop them, bollock him or sell him in January Kuqi does it and it seems not many eyebrows are raised been saying for a few weeks now, Kuqi has an attitude problem, he doesnt like to play it simple, he now always looks for the "glory" ball and imo opinion thinks he is far better than he currently is. he does put in a shift every game no doubt! no question in his work rate but he cost us a goal becuase he keeps trying to do to much on the ball he wont release to team mates, except maybe Scapuzzi he needs to realise he is not 24 anymore he is 34 and get back to the way he was when he arrived, trusting his team mates abit more oh and he wont score if he keeps dropping back to the half way line for the ball, :censored:in stay up front kuqi the goals will start to flow for him again if he does IMO Quote

bluehobbit Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 its pretty obvious its pure frustration. He wants to score goals the team hasnt been great at times and he has been starved off chances. Hes been dropping back trying to pick the ball up and move us forward as a lot of the time we got backwarsd or sideways. I agreee at the moment hes over doing it ive lost count of the times recently hes picked up the ball and tried to run with it only to get tackled and the booking was silly, hopefully with simpson back we wil start to move the ball forwards to the right areas more often Quote

Tommy_Fent Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Sorry but I don't agree with people who believe we should stick to a rigid formation and that a striker should always stay up front. If he stays up front all the time he'll be playing into the centre backs hands and we'll be predictable to play against. This is what used to really piss me off about Dave Penney, he'd play two sets of 4 then have Abbot and another striker isolated meaning our forwards would be marked out of the game, by dropping a striker back you're potentially dragging a defender out of position. Although if he is dropping back he needs the support of other players, which is what I'm guessing is the current problem Quote

Kuqi is the "1" highest up; the focal point. Simpson when he was here; and again yesterday if I've read it correctly, and inbetween Simpson; both Scapuzzi & taylor are the "second 1"; playing deeper in the hole. Kuqi shouldn't be dropping deep all the time; as there is another player there to do that job already. There's no point in him doing it; as it takes him away from where he should be - and where he can do the most damage IMO. He's almost working too hard, and it's to the detrement of his performances at the moment. He away from where he should be / needs to be, and when he is in the deep positions; he's looking for 'Hollywood' balls instead of keeping it simple. His job is to score goals, and be a target man for us. When he's at the halfway line; or inside our own half; he's not doing his job. Quote
oafcmad09 Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 If he wasn't coming back for it would we be being pressed more at the back, meaning more goals for an opposition. Diamond seems shaky at the back, if he was to be put under more pressure I think we could be conceding more goals. He's a good striker (when he puts his mind to it) and some of his quality is due to him fighting hard for the ball. He's coming back to win the ball. I'm not sure we'd be doing as well without him. If we can get other strikers, eg Parker, Scapuzzi playing the same way the flying Finn does, I think Kuqi (unless he gets back into form) is necessarily needed. I do like him as a player but his performance has dropped and I think he needs to be playing better than he is to keep his place in the side. Quote

Whereas some people believe that a team should operate along a back-bone (Brian Clough ideology). I think with the advancement of young players being used to 5 a-side we'll see a hell of a lot more teams playing this way in future as they'll be use to playing a more all round game. As for Kuqi dropping back it depends if you think he can play in the hole, I think he can if he's got players to release balls to that can run at opponents like Taylor, Scapuzzi or Simpson which works if you're trying to exploit a team with slow centre-backs. I remember Norwich did that against us 2 seasons ago, Holt dropped back leaving one of our defenders out of position and thus creating space for one of their midfielders to run into and they scored. But that isn't is game is it? And it hasn't ever been throughout his career……he's the furthest forward striker. IMO, Kuqi has to be the front lying striker - an out & out target man, where he can then get into positions to score goals. If he's dropping deep to try to link play, he's a.) getting into the space that the deeper lying striker / in the hole striker should be occupying & getting in the way and b.) he then won't be anywhere near the position he should be in when the break / final ball happens. He's 34 (35?) years of age and his legs just aren't going to get him into the box after a 50+yard sprint if he's fannying about on the half-way line. We have Simpson again to link the play - something he excelled at actually during his initial loan. The midfield & Kuqi weren't so far apart when Simpson was here as he was able to fill the space between the midfield 4 & Kuqi and, as he has composure & strength on the ball, we weren't losing the ball in that final 3rd so much as we have been doing (a big source of Kuqi's frustration I'd say) I don't think you can underestimate the difference to our side & the way we play 2 players make - namely Simpson & Weslowski. Hopefully Wes's shoulder will be right for Anfield, the 2 important JPT games and the rest of the league games; and now Simpson is back - hopefully he can pick up where he left off (match practice might be an mini-issue??). With those 2 in the side, we simply look a better side. Kuqi is frustrated; you can see that clearly. I hope Simpson & Wes's returns will alleviate some of that frustration, and he (Kuqi) can actually start to focus on what he should be doing again - namely doing the things he was doing in his 'purple patch' when he first arrived. Leading the line, high up the pitch & getting into positions where he can use all his experience & guile to score goals. He can still do it, he's shown that - he needs to get back to doing it again ASAP. Quote
futchers briefs Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 I'm sure we've got a more than adequate manager who will be letting Kuqi know how and where to play during the game.....Anyway back to your football manager games chaps. Quote

brad Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 This is something I started and argument with people on the coach about, when Smith was on he was always up front the only time he was back was when Chesterfield had corners then Simpson went up front but when Kuqi came on it changed and nobody went up front when Kuqi dropped back. Kuqi does work hard but he should not be back helping defending he loses the ball to much like he did against notts county and cost us a goal, he should stay up front and denfend from up there and move about there not in defence Quote
